So this one was inspired by a cockroach I saw on my way to work. I swear. I have no idea if it was dead or alive, but it sparked off this one-shot and I thought the idea was just so immensely cute that I had to write it. So here it is!

The Cockroach

Preet styled his damp hair in the mirror, whistling as the water droplets from his hair flicked onto the mirror. Showers were fun, he decided. They were what woke him up in the mornings and made him chipper.

His whistling was interrupted by an ear-piercing shriek coming from outside the bathroom door.

Forgetting that he was clad in nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist, Preet dropped his comb and hurried out of the bathroom, wondering what had happened.

"Meher? Kya hua?" he asked, surprised to find Meher standing on the chair at her dresser.

Her face was pale, her hair strewn across her face. She looked up at Preet, her eyes wide in fear.

"C-c-c-cockroach!"

Preet's eyes widened. Ignoring the fact that the chair at the dresser was wide enough to hold just one person, he clambered up on it, grabbing Meher for balance.

"Preet, tum kya kar rahey ho?!" Meher shrieked, grabbing him in turn, both of them wobbling on the chair.

"I hate cockroaches!"

"Lekin hum dono kursi par nahin khade ho sakte!"

"We're standing fine, aren't we?"

Just as he said that, both of them lost their balance and tumbled onto the floor. Luckily for Meher, she landed on Preet, the wind knocked out of both of them.

She stared down at him, then smacked his bare chest.

"What was that for?!" he demanded, groaning. "First my back hurts because of the fall, and now you're making my chest hurt?!"

"Duffer!" Meher chided him. "You were supposed to get rid of that cockroach, not be a girl about it!"

Preet stuck his tongue out at her. "It's not my fault you're scared of cockroaches too!"

She smiled at him. "No, but it is your fault you acted like a complete girl when you didn't even see the cockroach."

Preet made a face. "Will you please get off me?"

Meher grinned. "No. I like it here."

The smile that emerged on Preet's face scared Meher. Her smile faded.

"So, you like it here, do you?" Preet drawled.

As Meher started to climb off Preet, he rolled over so he lay on top of her. Her eyes widened.

"P-Preet, yeh tum kya kar rahey ho? Agar kissi ne dekha toh?" she stammered, trying to look at anywhere but his well-sculpted bare chest or his lean arms that were stretched out on either side of her, supporting his weight. She settled for his eyes, but that made her heart race even faster.

He lowered himself slightly, positioning his lips next to her ear. "We're in our room, Meher. Kaun dekhega?"

"Mammu, Mammi, aapke kamre mein cockroach aaya tha kya?"

Preet yelped and quickly moved off Meher, turning to the door to see who had interrupted them. Meher sat up as well, turning a bright shade of red that matched her niece's t-shirt.

"Tannu! Haan, woh...uh...aaya tha, hai na, Meher?" Preet stammered.

"Haan," Meher answered quickly, smiling nervously.

At the door, Tannu nodded solemnly. She turned and ran away, hollering at her brother as she did. "Bhaiya! Cockroach Preet Mammu aur Meher Mammi ke kamre mein aaya tha! And I saw Mammu and Mammi making babies!"

Both Preet and Meher exchanged a horrified look. They quickly stood up.

"We should..." Preet started.

"Yeah, we should!"

They headed for the door, but Meher stopped and turned around. "You should, um...put on some clothes."

Preet blushed. "Right."

Kulraaj appeared at their door, her eyes flashing. "What did I hear Tannu saying?"

Meher swallowed nervously. "Kuch nahin, Didi! There was a cockroach in our room and we were on the chair and we lost our balance and fell aur phir Tannu aayi aur usne samjha ki hum..."

Kulraaj's anger turned into amusement. She smiled at them knowingly. "Chalo, theek hai. Socho ki maaf kar diya. Lekin agli baar, zara darwaaza band kar lo!"

Her face still red, Meher closed the door as Kulraaj left, shaking with silent laughter and shaking her head.

She turned to find Preet staring at her, still embarrassed at having been caught flirting with his wife by their niece.

He smiled sheepishly. "At least the cockroach is gone?"

Et voila! And just in time too! My dad's almost done with his lunch, so we're probably (hopefully!) gonna go get me an ipod! And an external hard drive! WHEE! *prays that she didn't just jinx herself*

I was going to reserve...but I didn't feel like it! 😃 But I'll say this...I LOVE TANNU! 😃 She is the cutest thing around! 😳 That beats a LOT of things! 😃
