I think it was unconscious mirroring, because Kulraaj intentionally walked in after hearing Tannu screaming that she saw Preet and Meher making babies. 😆

I realised that when I go to work, I can't write. Not because I don't have time, but for some other psychological reason. So I decided that instead of going to work tomorrow, I'd camp out at the library, with a few good books and maybe a nice cold ice-blended coffee. ☺️ It's just utterly depressing that the Starbucks there closed down. 😔 But since I've got fourteen hours (or so!) until the library opens, (holy java chip frappe! I so forgot that students are gonna be all over the library! 🤢) here's a surprise one-shot for someone that I've been meaning to write for for a while! I went through like ten different ideas before finally deciding on this one, and I really hope she likes it! 😳 Enjoy!

Yug was going crazy. At least, that's what his friends told him. And he was starting to believe it too.

His supposed insanity arose from, of course, a girl. But not just any girl. Yug believed that she was the girl, the one. You know, the girl that he knew he was meant to be with.

The thing was, he hadn't yet gotten a proper look at her.

For the past three months, Yug had only managed to catch glimpses of her, turning corners or walking into places. And try as he might, Yug could never find her after that.

So Yug sat in a Starbucks, pondering, over a steaming caramel macchiato, whether it was worth pursuing her. He did enjoy his sanity quite a bit. But at the same time, he knew that his sanity was mostly gone.

For when he wasn't busy looking for her, Yug spent his time thinking about her.

He filled pages with images of her instead of taking notes in class.

He mused over her name instead of writing his essays.

He wondered about her life as he traveled home from college.

Yug took a sip of his coffee as he acknowledged the fact that he was obsessed with a girl he'd never really seen before.

He sighed. He needed a life.

He took another sip of his coffee, looking around him. He froze as his gaze fell on a girl who was walking out the door, her profile clearly visible to him, cradling her cell phone between her ear and her shoulder as she struggled to put her change in her bag.

Holy macchiato, it's her!

He jumped out of his chair, leaving his coffee half-finished as he ran after her. As he reached the door, he looked around, looking for her, but there were too many people around.

Frustrated, he kicked the wall, immediately regretting it as pain shot up his foot.

He leaned against the wall, rubbing his foot.

Yug looked around again, wondering what to do now.

As the swarm of people briefly cleared, he caught a glimpse of a girl with a long black ponytail turning a corner.

He forgot all about the pain in his foot as he impulsively chased after her.

He considered it his good luck that the lane she had turned into wasn't as crowded as the one they had come from. He followed her as she walked on, still talking on her cell phone, her coffee as yet untouched.

Even at his distance he could hear her voice. A smile made its way onto his face. Her voice was nothing like he imagined it would be; it was much more melodious, probably what angels would sound like if they spoke.

She turned into a store, and Yug sighed with relief. Finally, he'd be able to meet her.

He entered the store about two minutes after her and stood at the entrance, looking around for any glimpses of her. He frowned. She had entered this store, didn't she? He backed out and looked up at the name of the store. Then he wondered what he was doing; it wasn't as though he had seen the name of the store she had gone into. He'd just seen the store she had entered.

She had to be here, he thought, going into the store again. One of the cashiers flashed him a curious look, and he smiled briefly at her before resuming his search for her.

"Good afternoon, sir, can I help you?"

Yug turned to see that the cashier had momentarily abandoned her post and stood beside him, a plastic, hi-I-love-my-job-and-I-love-serving-people smile on her face.

"Um." Yug hesitated. If he said that he was looking for someone, he'd sound crazy. Wouldn't he? Well, it was better not to risk it. It was enough for him that his friends thought he was crazy. He didn't need random salespeople to think he was crazy, too. "No, I'm just browsing, thanks."

He made his way to a clothes rack, only just realizing that he was in a women's clothing boutique. He found himself staring at a rack of women's blazers. Wonderful, Yug, pure genius, he chided himself as he browsed through the blazers.

"Sorry I'm late, Meera. Woh stupid Preet hai na, he didn't know how to turn off the gas. And instead of bothering Maa about it when she was at home, duffer ne mujhe phone kiya."

Yug froze. He slowly looked up from the blazers, wondering if he had heard what he thought he heard.

"Bhai toh aise hote hai, Ravz," the salesgirl from before answered. "Anyway, at least you're here!"

He looked up and his eyes landed on her. His jaw unconsciously slackened, for two reasons. The first was that the pictures he made didn't even come close to how beautiful she really was. The second was shock that he was actually seeing her. Not glimpses of her, but her.

She looked around, tucking loose strands of her hair behind her ear. She caught his gaze, and she offered him a brief smile.

Something in the back of his mind stirred, telling him to smile back. But that thought didn't quite make it to the front of his mind. So Yug continued to stare at her with a slack jaw.

She looked away, turning a little pink. She turned to her friend and said something softly. Her friend glanced at Yug and broke out into a grin. She nudged the girl, saying something he couldn't hear.

Yug finally seemed to process that he must have looked like quite a bit of an idiot. He closed his mouth and tore his gaze away from her, returning his attention to the blazers. Now that he had seen her, now that she was standing in front of him…what was he supposed to do?

"I don't think any of these are your style, Sir," said a voice that was much softer than the one he had heard earlier.

Yug's heart raced as he looked up, looking directly into her honey brown eyes. A smile played on her lips, one that was reflected in her eyes. Yug felt his face heat up.

"It's not for me, it's for…um…"

"Your girlfriend?" she offered.

Yug raised an eyebrow. Sneaky, he thought appreciatively. She bit her lip, trying hard not to laugh.

"I'm single," he admitted, smiling back at her.

"I see," she nodded.

They shared an awkward silence, neither of them knowing what to say.

"I'm Yug," he said, holding out his hand.

"Ravjot," she replied, shaking his hand. "And I'll let you in on a little secret: I'm not supposed to be flirting with customers." She winked at him, and he grinned.

"If it helps, I had no intention of buying anything," he retorted.

Their conversation continued for a few more minutes, until the mid-afternoon rush kicked in, and women in blazers and shirts and pencil skirts came in to shop for fresh clothes for work the next day.

"Maybe I'll see you around again sometime?" Yug asked hopefully.

Ravjot grinned. "You know where to find me." With those parting words, she turned and left him, going over to a rather intimidating woman in stiletto heels. She glanced back at him and gave him a little wave.

Yug waved back, knowing that he could finally die happy.

…

Well, not finally. He still wanted to take her out for dinner!

Ta-dah! 😃 Hopefully this won't be my last one-shot for a while! I've been halfway through a KulRan shot for a while now, and all I do is stare at it and wonder what to write. Oooh and speaking of writing, can you believe I've already planned out my 50th one-shot? 😃😳 I'm so aiming big, baby!
