Taarak Mehta Ka Oolthah Chashma’s Jethalal aka Dilip Joshi says he misses costar Disha Vakani: ‘Some iconic..’

The long-running comedy show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has officially completed 17 years on Indian television. To mark the special day, the cast and crew came together in Mumbai for a celebration filled with nostalgia and emotion. Asit Kumar Modi, the creator and producer of the show, was present at the event and also addressed the much-discussed topic of casting for the role of Dayaben.

While speaking to the media, Asit Modi acknowledged the constant curiosity around Dayaben’s return and shared a brief update that discussions are still on regarding the casting. Although he did not announce a name, he assured fans that the team is actively working on it.

Dilip Joshi, who plays the ever-popular Jethalal, was also present and opened up about his bond with Disha Vakani, who portrayed Dayaben. When asked whether he misses his former co-star, Dilip shared, “We have worked from 2008 to 2017, so I definitely miss her. It was a long time, and we did some iconic scenes together. Both of us are from a theatre background, so our chemistry was quite good since day one. Personally, as a co-actor, I definitely miss her a lot, because the scenes were very enjoyable with her.”

Mayur Vakani, known for playing Sundarlal on the show and who also happens to be Disha Vakani’s real-life brother, became emotional during the event. While speaking about his on-screen sister, he reflected on her absence from the show and expressed how much he misses sharing screen space with her.

Seventeen years on, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah continues to entertain audiences across generations. While new characters and storylines have been introduced over time, the memories attached to the original cast remain irreplaceable for both the actors and fans.
