I'm confused about the time line... When did viraj fall in love with seema... After leaving teji? Or did he leave teji bec he was already in love with seema???
I think he left Teji because he was already in love with Seema. He was unhappy in the marriage and just wanted to divorce her.But Teji didn't oblige.During this phase he met Seema and fell in love with her.Later he left her.I'm confused about the time line... When did viraj fall in love with seema... After leaving teji? Or did he leave teji bec he was already in love with seema???

As per what I understood.. within few months of marriage viraj and teji went bad...
Then he met seema at office and fell in love with her .. now maybe the case that she was already working but then again doubt arises that maybe she was hired because he might have liked her but was going to marry teji or I don't know what🌝😅
Or maybe seema joined new and she started to talk and interact with viraj and maybe she was the way meera was for yuvraj but here viraj stood up and decided to end things with teji
Seems years before meeting Seema in Earthcon office, Viraj wanted to go separate with Teji, they had constant fights with no love left from his side, but Teji didn't want to separate.
Then Viraj met, got emotionally attached to Seema, found solace in her companionship. In that new FB scene, Seema tells Teji that she didn't cross lines with Viraj, she just wants Viraj's love nothing else from him.
After Teji refused to sign on divorce papers (even after Viraj & Seema telling Teji they both are in love), seems Viraj got fed up left house, only after that he started living with Seema starting new family. 😳
So legally though Teji was still Viraj's wife, Viraj didn't start physical relation with Seema while living with Teji as her husband.

based on this timeline, seema would be seen as second wife in most sections of India. not mistress. plain and simple second wife. thats why vanya is having her dad's name in birth certificate. so forget technical legalities. am sure at some point, seema will say they had a simple religious ceremony somewhere.
like I mentioned in my previous posts, a few years back, this kind of scenario played out quite often.
the 1988 Mani Ratnam movie "agni natchathiram" had a man with 2 wives and he divides his week between them. the two wives live in different homes. it was a fun as well as emotional movie and deals with complexities of such families well. the children from the two marriages (the two MLs) find this very embarrassing.
at no point in the movie is the 2nd wife referred to as mistress. instead, it is very clear that he considers her his wife. even though his 1st wife and mother hate this lady, they still acknowledge her as wife. only society at times has a doubt because they are trying to figure out the legalities. this in turn causes lots of embarrassment as well as frustration for the two MLs who have to deal with being part of such a weird family. in the end of the movie, the MLs come to some sort of peace regarding their home situation. great songs, romance, comedy as well as emotional turmoil -- the makings of a masala superhit movie.
according to rumour, the movie was actually inspired by some real life families that the director was aware of and had interacted with.
It was a beautiful movie

Wow... Well explained and I also don't consider seema as his mistress...
The movie on the other hand seems progressive and very way ahead of it's time

it was. remains a classic movie that you can still watch and enjoy even now. I am thinking of the lines in how our regional cinema defines mistress and second wife. there are very clear.
as usual, KA has been written by some fireng-type writers who don't know how ground realities work in India and come up with weird scenes that make no sense.
no one from that era would ever make a persuasive argument on "saccha pyaar" -- no one from that generation really cared for such emotions or placed such value on that kind thinking. that is a very modern thought and mostly based in more western countries. even now, the current generation are hardly going to be saying "saccha pyaar" and what is the opposite of that -- fake love? arranged marriage? 🙄🙄
in all the movies from that time period, if a second wife were to confront the first wife, she would say, "he is my husband. we are having family relations." this means that he is not just visiting her for s*x and paying her for it but rather is responsible for her as a husband. key is there is a lack of secrecy. he takes her everywhere and introduces her as his wife. not partner or girlfriend but wife. at times, there is a mangalsutra. so the dialogues and fights would centre on the validity -- "well he married me in front of this temple...." it also means the man acknowledges any child born out of that relationship and puts his name on the birth certificate.
so vanya is technically second wife's child.
I don't think the way she presented the truth was unbiased... She is definitely team seema... The way she revealed,it all, the words she used she put indirectly put all the blame on teji by absolving everyone else
Like you said I hope she makes him understand how mom's perspective bec she is big on look at the issue from all angles... But i don't think we'll go that way... Seema wants recognition which means teji will get humiliated publicly again..
Like you said this is a build up to make teji to oppose viaan and her marriage... And right now i don't blame teji... I'm not liking katha much right now..
And also there is fair bit of inconsistency in viaans arc... When introduced it was shown he was super close and super protective about his mom.. But now days its like only katha makes sense to him... I can imagine viaan getting angry at his mom, but going and hugging seema??? What is viaan smoking?
I agree . I finally watched the episode and I felt like Katha had already made up her mind about who is wrong and who is right in the whole matter even before hearing Seema's side of the story. So there is another side of the story .. doesn't mean it's right. Yes there were some revelations that people need to know about. For instance- how Seema's reputation was ruined... Not sure if Teji was the reason Seema got dementia ... But if that's the case then yes Teji should be held accountable for her actions... But fact remains that
A) Viraj gave up on them, not Teji. She wanted to work things out for their son's sake. What she would've done to achieve that can be debatable but she wanted to give their relationship a chance... She didn't run away the minute things got difficult. That's now how marriage works.. especially when you have a child..On one hand he says he doesn't want Viaan to grow up in a hostile environment and on the other hand he yells at his wife, humiliates her, calls her gold digger Infront of his son.. How's the son supposed to feel? Wouldn't be hate his father for treating his mother like that? Of course he would...
B) Viraj loved his son but he still failed as a father big time because he could not love his son more than he loved himself.. he put his happiness above all.
C) We are hearing Teji's part in all this from others and even then I'm not able to put the blame squarely on her..
Her logic as to why she didn't allow Viraj to meet their son seems justified.. Viraj got everything he wanted - the love of his life, a daughter, a whole new life... and he even wanted the son he had from his wife who he had no love or even respect for... So basically cut just that one woman out of his life and have everything... Teji was just supposed to let him have everything without any complain.. accept the new woman in her husband's life and be a bystander? That's ridiculous..
What Teji did wrong was not trying to fill the void in Viaan's life.. she too failed as a mother but not as much as Viraj.. so more than Viaan hugging Seems, Im upset with Viaan apologizing to his father ...

I guess it was ahead of its time in that it dealt with how the children felt with such a weird set up. however, there were plenty of movies that showed a man having second wife. especially those village movies had many such scenarios. like I mentioned in my other post where I tagged you, there were clear lines on mistress and second wife. they were not the same and cannot be equated that way. people didn't really bother with the legalities and I am not sure if it was illegal anyway then. the laws confuse me on that subject.
a couple of years back, a famous director died. he had won a few national awards. prior to his death, he was at his first wife's house. so when he passed, there was some tamasha that the son (from first wife) was not allowing the second wife to come over. they had no kids and she used to be a well-known actress.
she even gave interview on TV saying, "I am not a mistress or his girlfriend or partner. we were husband and wife even if we couldn't do it legally. so I want respect." maybe there was lots of industry pressure (from close friends and family) and the son relented and she was allowed to participate in all the funeral rituals. then she gave another interview saying that she didn't want any wealth (she had her own) but she wanted acknowledgement for the decades they had been together and she was glad that she had been given the respect of second wife status.
