Special Plans: There isn't anything special that we are doing for Valentine's Day. Just that I'll spend my entire day with Vikram.

Ekta Kapoor is dreaming beyond saas-bahu sagas now. She is set to roll cinema, TV and reality into one big project

There's one project that has Ekta Kapoor really excited. She says, "There's one really big project (that I'm co-producing with Sanjay Gupta) which will open up a new genre of cinema. I'll be bringing in cinema, TV and reality into one range of creativity. People will talk about it for a long time to come. Star Plus will be a very important part of that project."

Meanwhile, she has her hands full with film production, deciding her next move following Samir Nair's exit from Star and her new show Kayamath that starts this Monday. She has also just returned from Chennai after a visit to Tirupathi Balaji. "We walked to the temple. I haven't slept for 48 hours. But I've a new show starting on Monday. So I'm back at work," says Ekta.

The all-important question: Is she walking out of Star with Samir Nair? Apparently she's getting lusciously lucrative sums to switch channels. "Right now I'm not too sure about my next move. But yes, my association with Samir Nair at Star was to die for. I want to be part of any channel that Samir Nair moves to. I think Star is getting its act together. As soon as they do we'll have a better picture. But I've got lots of offers from Sony and other channels. I'm keeping my options open," she replies.

Ekta is also excited about her new show that will replace Kahin To Hoga. "It's a show called Kayamath. I had a super hit show by the same title on Doordarshan some years ago. The title suited my new show as Kayamath is about love that lasts till the end of time. It's based on a novel that I had heard about. I've got Sanjida from Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka and Shabbir Ahluwalia as the protagonists," says Ekta.

She speaks fondly of Iqbal Khan who recently left her production house. Ekta says, "I'm very fond of him. I was quite shocked when he left my show Kyun Hota Hai Pyarr. But I guess it was time for him to venture out into the real world. How much he needs me or I need him isn't the question."

The end of Kahin To Hoga means the end of Ekta's association with Amna Sharif. Ekta says, "I don't know whether we'll work together again in the near future. But it was a fruitful association. I'd definitely want to work with Amna again. At the moment she has a new show coming up on Sony. But you never know about the future."

That brings us to all the efforts that Ekta's breakaway creative director Sandeep Sickand has been making to out-manoueuvre Ekta through soaps galore on Sony Entertainment.

Ekta isn't being diplomatic when she says she hasn't seen any of Sickand's shows. "Where's the time? I haven't seen much of his work. I don't know what they're doing. The main aim is to garner TRPs. I think Zee is managing that job very well. They're getting the right amount of eyeballs," she says.

Q Why have you quit a hit show like Kasauti, which has given you so much recognition?

I am not finished with it yet. I still have to shoot for a couple more days. The reason for quitting the show is the generation leap, which will require me to play a 60-plus grandfather. Playing father was okay with me but not a grandfather at my age. I just can't do that. There are enough good roles around where I can play my age.

Q Besides quitting Kasauti it is said that you are also quitting Balaji. Comment.

No, I am only quitting Kasauti, because I am not associated with any other Balaji show except Kasauti it appears like I am quitting Balaji too. I am open to work with any production house as long as the role is good.

Q Is it true that lately your equation with Ekta has soured?

I don't think the relationship has soured. The fact that I am open to working with any producer, including Ekta, says it all.

QHow was the experience of acting in Kasauti for six years?

It was a great experience, no two opinions about it. I enjoyed playing Anurag Basu. It was a great role with varied shades; romantic, angry, emotional… The character went through a beautiful journey and had an amazing growth. This has been the best show in my career so far and it will always remain as one of my favourites.

Q But besides name and fame it also brought your way many unpleasant controversies. What do you have to say about them?

I don't want to talk about it at all. That issue is an old chapter and I wouldn't like to open it again.

Q You have the image of a casanova? What's the real Cezanne Khan like?

I am as normal a guy as any other normal person.

QPost Kasauti, are you planning to take a break?

I haven't decided on that. Nothing has been planned. You never know I might start working again after 10 or 15 days. There are lots of offers and I am checking out the best ones. I will pick the role that interests and suits me the most.

Q What kind of roles are you looking at?

Strong characters which have a lot of potential to perform, something that will excite me as well as the viewers.

I am looking at doing roles which will help me grow further.

Q It is rumoured that your next show is going to be for Sony.

Yes, Sony has spoken to me and we have had a discussion. But there are other people who have also been talking to me. So at the moment nothing is final.

QAren't you looking at doing films?

Of course I am keen on doing films. Offers keep coming in but I am really looking at doing lead roles in good commercial movies.

Show me the money: Nandini Singh

Despite being the leading lady, she was thrown out of Kesar (Star Plus) for her eccentric behaviour. Now, Nandini Singh is at it again.

The actress literally begged Balaji Telefilms to forgive and forget her past behaviour and requested a role. When Balaji honcho Ekta Kapoor relented, Nandini demanded an astronomical fee!

Sitting at home since September 2006 (when she was sacked from Kesar courtesy her uncooperative attitude), Nandini soon realised that no other production house had any good offers for her.

So she started sending feelers to Balaji that they should re-consider her for a role in one of their running or forthcoming shows.

When contacted, Shipra Arora (Creative Head on Kasautii Zindagii Kay) says, "Nandini called Bhairavi Shah (the then creative head on Kesar) several times saying she wanted to come back somehow.

A few days ago, Ekta told me to get her back to play Surveen Chawla's role (Kasak) in Kasautii. Surveen is busy doing Kaajjal and the story in Kasautii needed her character to come back.

We got in touch with Nandini and everything seemed fine. Suddenly, she messaged saying she is not interested."

The high-handed Nandini didn't offer any explanation to the production house.
Says an insider, "Nandini had constant fights with her co-actors Nikkhil Arya and Eijaz Khan.

She was very problemmatic. Yet, Ekta forgave her. Instead of acknowledging Ekta's gesture and being happy that her period of sitting at home was over, she demanded a huge amount as remuneration."

Ekta Kapoor confirms she had thought of recalling Nandini back in the Balaji fold and money was the only reason why she didn't make it. "If actors want to work with us, they have to work within our budgets," quips Kapoor.

When contacted, Nandini ducked talking by saying, "I will call you back."
Of course, the call never came.

Actress Gitanjali Tikekar passed out on the sets of Karam Apna Apna when a kino light fell on her head

Gitanjali Tikekar had a painful weekend recently when she met with an accident on the sets of Karam Apna Apna. The actress was busy reading her script when a huge kino light fell on her head from above.

"I was so absorbed in reading the script that I didn't see the light falling. I passed out after it fell on my head. It was really heavy. I was in great pain for two days. But my co-stars took good care of me. They applied ice on my head, and did all the basic first-aid stuff," recalls Gitanjali.

Achint Kaur, who was also present on the sets during the mishap, says, "The other day before we could realise, the entire stand along with the light toppled over Gitanjali's head. It was scary and we all ran around looking around for ice and medicine."

Although she was in great pain for days, Gitanjali refused to take leave and continued shooting. Here's hoping the production house arranges for some disaster management division soon.
