Part 18:

Just as all the guests left, Bani was sent into her room to wait for Jai, just as any bride would on the night of her wedding. She was sitting in the center of the bed with her face covered, wearing her wedding dress. Just as she heard the doorknob turn, she caught her breath. Jai came into the room and walked towards Bani. "Bani, don't' tell me you're actually shy. I think we've gone past that part," he said with a wink. He then sat down next to her and lifted the veil off her face. Her beauty mesmerized him. He loved that she didn't put on too much make up. There was no need to, anyway, she had so much natural beauty that make up was always out of the question. The rays of light that came piercing through the window onto her face only added to that beauty. There was a special glow on her that extenuated her chocolate brown eyes and pink luscious lips. He couldn't wait to capture those lips and make her his, marking her, telling the world that she was off limits for the rest of them.

Bani was looking down at the floor while blushing. Jai put his finger under her chin and make her look up at him, yet her eyes were still looking downwards. "Hey, come on. Look at me, Bani. There's no need to be shy. We've been through this already, remember," jai said while he started nuzzling her neck. She instinctively put her arms around his neck. "Now that's more like my Bani," he said before he captured her lips. He then started taking off her heavy jewelry and put them on the side table. He started kissing her everywhere, extracting moans from Bani. He then nibbled on her ears, just as he undid the zipper of her top. Bani felt as if she were in Heaven.

"Now it seems as if I've gotten my old Bani back," was all Jai said as the night faded away, leaving both of them in their own world.

Six Months Later

The sun is shining brightly above the Walia Mansion. Bani had just gotten out of the shower and was working on the task of waking up Jai. "Oh, God Jai. Just wake up. It's already 8 o'clock. You'll be late for work if you don't get up now," she said sternly. Jai, on the other hand, who was pretending not to hear his wife just waved his hand up and down indicating her to leave him alone. "Okay, if that's how you want to play it, then that's fine" she said as she ran into the bathroom.

She came out a few minutes later with a jug of water in her hand. She tiptoed over to Jai and was about to throw the water on him when his hand flew up and stopped her. With the force of the jerk, the water flew backwards onto Bani. She was soaking wet by now while Jai was laughing like a maniac. "Oh my god Bani, you should have seen the look on your face. It was so funny" he said in between laughs. Bani, on the other hand, was seething with anger. She just marched into the bathroom to change without saying a word to him.

The minute Bani came out of the bathroom, Jai came running towards her, apologizing for his misdeed. Bani pretended not to listen to him and continued on with her daily chores. He then held her firmly and kissed her with all his might. Just like that, Bani had forgotten all about the water. The kiss got passionate just as Atharva came into the room. He was just learning how to walk and was still wobbling like a penguin. He then came to Bani and held on to her leg, indicating her to pick him up. "Like father like son. You want to keep me all to yourself just like your daddy does, don't you?" she said with a laugh.

She then went into the kitchen to get the breakfast ready for everyone. She had to divert Krishna and Atharva's attention from the food, as they kept on throwing it towards each other while cooking the food for the rest of the family. "Krishna Beta, don't do that. How will you eat the food if you keep throwing it on the floor?" "Atharva, don't throw food at your sister" was all that could be heard throughout the kitchen. Just as Bani was done laying the food on the table, she heard the phone ring. She picked it up on the second ring, out of breath. "Hello, Walia Residence" said Bani politely. "Yes, may I speak to Mrs. Walia? I'm Dr. Kapoor speaking." "Oh, Dr. Kapoor, how are you?" As they were relaying their stories to one another, Dr. Kapoor realized why she had first intended to call Bani. "Oh, Bani, you made me forget in between our talking. Your test results came in. It's positive," said Dr. Kapoor. They then said their good byes and retreated to their work.

Bani didn't know how to tell Jai. She went into the room and started cleaning up there. "Bani, is something wrong. You look distressed," Jai said with pure concern. Of course Jai would notice if anything was wrong. It was Bani After all. "I have to tell you something Jai." Jai stopped his work and listened intently. "I'm pregnant."

Jai got up and was smiling while he picked up Bani and twirled her around. "Oh my god Bani. Another addition to the family. I love you so much. You've made me the happiest man alive. Oh, I should put you down. It's probably not good for the baby," said Jai jovially. Just then, Atharva and Krishna came into the room. "Krishna, Atharva, you both are going to be older brothers and sisters. Aren't you happy" Jai said to them. It seemed as though they understood as Atharva and Krishna both got up as best as they could and hugged Bani. The scene faded as the four of them were in their own little world with their happiness.

"He is happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home."
