Part 17:
Preparations for the wedding were in full swing. There was only one day left and everyone was trying to finish everything in those 24 hours. With so many things to do, it felt as if 24 hours in one day were just not enough. Everyone refused to let Bani do anything for the wedding except for attend the function, considering she was the bride. They had chosen her wedding gown, her jewelry; they had chosen everything from her clothes to the matching shoes. They had decided to go with the traditional red. They wanted everything to be an exact replica of their first wedding, except for the hatred and unwillingness.
Bani had been sitting in her room for the past hour, just thinking. She thought about everything from her first wedding day to this one, and everything in between. She didn't know how she got through it, but she did. The fruits of patience are sweet, she thought, as she contemplated the many treacheries that had been brought upon her. She was so deep into though that she didn't hear the door of her room open.
Jai came towards her and noticed how out of it she was. He decided to use the opportune moment to wrap his hands around her. Just as she felt the touch of his hands, she came back to reality. "Jai, when'd you get here? I didn't even hear you come in," she said with sheer shock in her voice. "Well, how would you notice when you were thinking so much. A penny for your thought, my dear" he said while nibbling on her ear.
"Oh, nothing" she said with a sigh. "You're not getting cold feet, are you? You know, considering this is our second marriage; you are stuck with me no matter what. You should have done this cold feet business when we were first getting married" he said with a slight chuckle in his voice. "Oh Jai, you're impossible, do you know that?" Bani said while turning around and looking him in the eyes. She just loved his chocolate brown eyes. They were the doors to his heart. By looking into them, you could learn so much about him and his feelings. Although he tried to hide his feelings, his eyes could not lie.
She looked into his eyes, and saw fiery passion. She knew what this was going to lead to, and she was delighted, but there was so much work to do, she just didn't have enough time. He started kissing the nape of her neck, extracting a moan from her. "Jai, there's so much work to do" she said weakly. He continued by nibbling on her ear. "Jai, Massi's probably looking for me by now. The kids are with Rano. I should go check on them," she said with all the energy left in her. He paid no attention to her, and continued doing what he was. "You know, you talk too much" Jai whispered into her ears just as he captured her lips.
The kiss started off lightly, but the passions harbored in both of them got the better of them, and they kissed more passionately, until they both thought they had died and gone to heaven. Bani forgot about all her excuses and all she could think about was the man in front of her, loving her with all his heart. Just at that moment, a slight knock was heard at the door. Jai was furious at the disturbance, but didn't show it. He merely opened the door for Anu. "Mamaji, I hope I didn't interrupt you two," she said with a wink "Massi's calling Bani downstairs. Can you tell Bani to come, that is, if she's not busy" she continued, before running off.
Jai came back to a blushing Bani. Her cheeks were a deep red. "Bani, Massi's calling you downstairs" he said dryly. "Sometimes, I am right you know Jai. And by the way, you should keep all that energy for our suhag raat tomorrow" she said and ran out of the room before Jai had understood what she had said.
The next day, the Walia Mansion was buzzing with activity. Everyone was getting ready for the big function. Massi was taking care of the kids while Bani had her special day. Bani was in her room with Rano, getting herself ready. She couldn't believe the day was finally here. They finally finished getting ready, just as they were calling Bani down. Bani started walking down the stairs, covering her face. Jai was mesmerized at the sight in front of him. Although he couldn't see her face, he could just imagine the beautiful brown eyes, the luscious pink lips, and the silky jet-black hair behind the covering. She looked so beautiful. He just couldn't wait for the night to divulge the day, and for the wedding to be complete, just so he could spend his night with the woman he loved.
Bani came down and sat next to Jai. The priest finished the chanting and told them to get up for the saath phere. They both got up and did the rounds, just as they had done before, but the only difference was the vows. They vowed to stay together forever, to love their children with the utmost love, and to get through the hardships together. They vowed to take care of each other and to continue loving each other for the rest of their lives, through every life that they live. With the completion of the rounds, Jai put the mangalsutra around Bani's neck and put the sindoor in her parting. He finally saw her face and was appalled by her beauty. She looked so radiant. They were so lost in their own worlds that they didn't notice everyone staring at them, to continue.
The wedding was over, but the reception afterwards had just started. They had decided to keep it simple and to invite just a few friends and family. It would be a short event, but it meant a lot to everyone. It commemorated the return of Jai and Bani.
Just before the dinner was served, Jai and Bani both got up and got everyone's attention. "Ladies and Gentlemen, I thank all of you who have come tonight. It means a lot both to my wife, Bani and me. We would like to say a few words before the dinner is served. We both had written a few words about each other and would like to share them with you. I'll go first.
Perfection. That's the only word that comes to my mind when I think of you, Bani. Your simplicity has always attracted me towards you. You're both beauty and brains. You're nature is so pure, and that, I think, is one of you're best qualities. You're pure nature is why you accomplish all that you do. It's not easy being a housewife and having a career at the same time, yet you accomplish both with perfection. The struggles that you have been trough would have broken anyone, yet they made you stronger. You're love for your children is you're motivation. You could do anything for them, no matter what. That love, that relationship, that bond that you hold with them, is what got you through everything. I am truly sorry what everything that I've done to you in the past, but I've made a vow, to both myself and God, that I will make up for everything that I've done and that I will give you all the happiness in the world."

As the saying goes, 'don't judge a book by its cover.' You may be good at hiding your emotions, but we all know that you have a heart of gold. You care for your family and your friend with such loyalty, that nothing in the world could break it. The things that you could do by setting your mind to it are so great, that no mathematician in the world could calculate it. Behind every successful man, there is a woman, and for you, Mr. Jai Walia, I am that woman, and I vow to stay that woman for the rest of my life."
