Bani sat in her cozy sitting room enjoying her coffee. She had the day off. She decided to go the market. She had quick breakfast. Showered and changed into a floral skirt and white blouse. She took a quick peek in the mirror and ran to her neighbor's house and took Raghav with her to the market. She loved the hustle and bustle of the market. She loved to watch people and loved to be around them. She hated loneliness.
Bani loved Shanker kaka. Her aunt Shakuntala Dixit had introduced him to her. She always brought vegetable and fruits from his shop. She would go every weekend to meet him. She loved Shaknkar kaka. Shankar kaka would fill her with stories of her aunt. Bani always noticed his eyes spark at the mention of her aunt's name. She never questioned him about his friendship with her aunt. She loved the way he talked about her.
Bani walked into the shop with Raghav and exchanged pleasantries. The shop was unusually crowded. She bought vegetables and fruits and walked out with Raghav. They strolled around the market unconsciously swaying her bag and talking everything under the son.

'Hey girl' shouted a man from behind her. Bani and Raghav looked over their shoulder to find a big man glowering at them..
'Watch your bag .' thundered the man.
'What?' she turned to him. Bani hated people who unnecessarily picked up fights.
'Watch your bag miss you have been hitting me with the damn thing..'he shouted.
'Watch where you are going Mr.. I'll sway the bag how ever I want. You look where you are going.' She said swaying her bag unconsciously and hitting him on the face.

"Oops…. ' she bit her toungue and looked at Raghav. The boy shivered at the murderous look the man gave.
'You brat…' the man pulled the bag from her hand and threw it on the ground spilling the contents from the bag.
'You….' She yelled drawing attention from passers by. 'Put them back in my bag Mr..'

'Oh Yeah…' he snubbed her and walked off.
Bani shoved Raghav and snatched the vegetables from the gorund and put them back in her bag.
'I'll get him for this.. you just wait and watch Raghav….' She said haughtily. "come with me..' she called much stunned Raghav. They ignored the heads that had turned to watch the spectacle. She craned her head in search of the man. She found him in one of the shop arguing with a shop keeper. The best he does she thought. She saw him get on the street and then turn his attention to the shopkeeper.. she moved past him snatching a banana from her bag. She peeled the banana and threw the peel just in front of him.
'You big bully..' she shouted looking at his direction. He turned in time and stepped on the peel falling flat on his nose.
'Serves you right ..' she shouted grabbing Raghav's hand and ignoring the insults the man was showering upon them.




'That's outrageous….' Said the man from behind the wheel. She is unbelievable Jai Walia muttered under his breath.. he was waiting for a friend in the parking lot.



Bani sat breathlessly on her couch in her small sitting room. Raghav looked at her adoringly.
'What would I do if you hadn't come to our neighborhood couple of years a go..' Raghav said.
'What?' she asked tossing a cushion aside.
'I would have died of boredom….. No rules actually applies to you .. right BAni?' he said with admiration.
'Oh come on raghav..' she got up andd ruffled his hair. 'I'll make us both fruit juice..' she walked to her kitchen. Bani looked at he ancient juicer and grinned. She plugged two cotton balls in her ears. She put fruits milk and water and switched on the juicer.
Her neighbors screeched at the sound from her juicer.
Raghav pushed open the kitchen door and yelled.
'Switch the damn thing off you will bring the dead alive.'
'What?' she turned towards him with two glasses.
He switched off the juicer and looked accusingly at her. 'Well, when is the new one coming?' he demanded.
'But I love this juicer.. it was my late aunt's..' she put the glasses on the counter top and poured them juice.

'So is everything around here….. You just don't want to part with it.. because you enjoy annoying the neighbors'. He said philosophically.

'Okay between you and me…. You are right.' She winked at him. ' I would miss annoying others… little attention is not so bad even when you acquire it in a negative way.'

The boy looked blank.


Banii had a very busy day on Monday. The dead line of the magazine was with in a day. She loved the work and she did enjoy reading the letters of the people with their health problems. Apart from the letters there were article about his seminar. She had to take all the copies and file it later. The work was too much she had been sitting with the computer for past 3 hrs. She stretched her arms. She needed a ten minute break. Her neck was aching and her eyes were burning.. She definitely needs break and then continue with his scribbled writing. Most of the time she had to walk with it to Ms. Braganza's table to read the sentence or words. She stretched her arms once again and turned around. MS. Braganza was standing with a steaming cup of coffee.

'For me?' she asked gratefully. Taking the cup from her hand. Ms. Braganza handed the cup and sat down with her for little chat. 'Too much work?' she inquired.
'Its okay..' Bani smiled. It would have been more easier for me and the doctor if he could record these things in his voice. It would save time..' she suggested. 'his writing takes all my time.. some of the letters are difficult to read.'

'Hm….. but he is a busy body my dear. And very old fashioned…' Ms. Braganza grinned. 'But I'll speak to him about your suggestions..'

They were talking and laughing about something the door opened and Dr. Jai walia walked in. stethoscope was hanging from his neck.. He was back from his round. He looked handsome in his white coat.
With out waiting for pleasantries he asked..' Ms.Dixit I want the copy of the letters before you send.' He stood there waiting for his copy.
Bani got up from her seat. ' I .. haven't finished them yet Doctor.
He looked as if he couldn't believe what he just heard. 'I want them right now Ms. Dixit…'
'I'll get them for you in fifteen minutes…' she said studying his taut face.
'excuse me..?' he drawled. ' what in the world were you doing here Ms Dixit.. I am a busy man. I want my work done according to that'. He snapped. 'do your work and keep time for your small talk later..'
He was at the door.

Bani felt insulted and humiliated. Here she was breaking her neck doing his job and top of that his ridiculous handwriting. No way was Bani dixit going to take these insults from anyone. When she is right she is right.

'Excuse me doctor.' She said staring at his back. 'for your information I did not delay your work. Your scribbled writing did.. I am no magician that I can gues whats after the letter P, B and D.. or are they really P, B or D?'

He faced her from the door with a mixture of shock and surprise.
'And I am not a machine..' she concluded staring at him.

Dr.Jai Walia shifted his gaze from Bani to Ms. Braganza.

Ms. Rita Braganza's jaw dropped open. She studied them in stunned silence. What in God's name had happened?

Jai Walia looked back at Bani. She looked challengingly at him.

Bani knew in heart of heart that was it. Her days in Mcholy hospital was over.

He spoke after a deliberation. 'Ms dixit.. into my office..'

great part, bani is so hard working, how can Jw not notice her hard work, he is such a fool if he will dismiss her. 😡
bani and her pranks made me laugh and i just love bani for her actions in market and my heart goes to her that how she desires attetion of others, i know she is alone in this world but she has her own ways to get attention from others/
