Part 31
M: Bani, did the decoration man call?
B: Yes Massi. He is going to come in an hour to do the decorating.
The Walia house was buzzing with activity as everyone was busy in the preparations for the mehendi, which was going to be held there tonight. Tomorrow will be the haldi and the day after will be the marriage.
Everyone was in a rush as the pandit made it clear that there was no other date for marriage than two days from now. Even the dixit residence was busy as they were preparing for the marriage ceremony, which would be held at their residence.
As for Bani, she had to take care of both the houses' responsibilities. Being the bahu of this house and being the oldest daughter of that house, she had to take care of most of the things. This meant that Bani was having less time for Jai as the marriage grew nearer. Jai was obviously not happy with this, but did try to understand Bani's condition. Inspite of this, Bani found herself manofying a grumpy Jai almost every night. On one of such nights, Bani made her way up to their room almost at midnight…
She entered the room to find the lights off and Jai sleeping with his back to her. Without trying to wake him up, she too got into bed facing the other side. She just closed her eyes when she felt Jai put an arm around her and placed his face on her shoulder.
J: Finally remembered me?
B: You didn't sleep till now?
J: Did you really think I would sleep without you?
B: No… but you don't stay up this late unless you have some important work…
J: And the important work is that I have to make sure you get enough sleep…
B: Jai… you know how much work I have…
J: So much work you can't take care of ur self?
B: Jaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii………………….
J: No more excuses Bani… I don't care from tomorrow I except you to be in bed before 10…
B: Before 10? You are nuts…
J; I am serious Bani… And you better do it cuz if not, I will not let you leave this room… the rest all is upto you…
B: That is too early…
J: Come on Bani… if not urself, at least think about the baby…
B: But…
J: You don't even remember to take your medicines… everyday I have to call to make sure you took them…
B: I am not that bad Jai… I can take care of my self…
J: Of course u can… and I can see it very well…
B: Stop it… stop being sarcastic…
Jai just shrugged. Bani sighed, thinking that there is no point arguing with JW. He is too stubborn…
B: Okay fine… Sry…
Jai smiled…
J: Decided to give up?
B: No… I am just too tired to argue… And anyway, it is my fault…
Bani buried her head his chest and soon she fell asleep…

Bani came back to reality as the phone rang. Knowing very well, who would it be, she picked it up…
B: Yes Jai, I took my medicines…
K: Bani beta, its me Kiran…
B: Oh mama… what happened?
K: Nothing… are you busy?
B: No… everything is almost done and even the decoration man came… why?
K: Rano is insisting that you should pick her dress for the evening… she is not listening to anyone… can you come now?
B: Now?
K: Ya… and you know rano, she is sooo stubborn…
B: Ok fine. I will come…

Bani jolted out of her thought and looked at all the dresses that were spread out on the bed.
B: Wear a salwaar kameez Rano…
R: Which one?
B: The blue one…
R: No di, it is too simple…
B: Gosh Rano… you are soo picky. Trust me you look good in this.
R: No di, pick something else…
RING RING
Bani's cell rang and she picked it up and went to the corner to talk…
B: Yes Jai, I took my medicines…
J: Good…
B: how come you are late in calling me today?
J: I was in a meeting… gosh…
B: Why what happened?
J: nothing, the deal Is not getting finalized.. the clients are asking too much money and I just don't think it is worth that much…
B: Then cancel the deal…
J: I don't want to though…
B: jai, decide on one thing…
J: Ya… I will have too… Anyway, why are you at your mom's place?
B: Because Rano couldn't pick a dress to wear and she wants ONLY me too help her…
J: Interesting… when re you coming home?
B: As soon as I finish…
J: which will be when?
B: why? Missing me…
J: Tell me one moment which doesn't remind me of you…
Bani smiled…
B: No…
J: Sry?
B: I was talking to rano…
J: Oh
B: Anyway Jai, I will talk to you later… bye…

Bani just returned a few minutes ago. It took a long time for Rano to decide what dress to wear. By the time Bani came home, Jai was in the bathroom freshening up. Bani quickly washed her face in the other bathroom and tied a pink and beige sari. She wore a little make up, a pink chain with matching earrings and finally her mangulsutra and sindoor.

However, her dori was troubling her. Just then Jai walked into the room wearing a black sherwani and a red duppatta. He smiled to see Bani struggling with her dori. He quietly made his way to her, she tied her dori. Bani looked up and smiled to see Jai, who slipped his arms around her waist and placed his head on her shoulder.
J; You look beautiful…
B: thank you… and you don't look bad either.
Bani slipped on pink bangles as Jai stood behind her, adoring her reflection. When she gave her reflection an approval, he turned around to face Jai.
J: I don't look bad either?
B: Well… I meant that you look handsome today…
J: Wow… I got compliment from you…
B: Well, who else would give you one… I mean, who else would DARE to give you one…
J: What do you mean DARE?
B: Its just that people are too scared of your temper that is it.
J: well, I couldn't care less if I am handsome or not…
B: but I do…
J: u do?
B: Of course I do… afterall, you are my husband and u HAVE to look handsome… its just fits in with me…
J: Are you trying to say that you are VERY beautiful and that I should be handsome too, just to be Bani Dixit's husband…
B: Well, one little clarification, you are handsome and isn't it obvious that Bani Dixit is beautiful…
J: Of course Bani is beautiful… afterall, she is JW's wife…
Bani smiled and hugged Jai. She placed her head on his chest and both of them stood in silence, listening to the words that are not said, but are still heard…
