Part 19
Bani walked into Pushkars office fuming and swearing. Pushkar looked up from his work and gave a questioning look to Bani. 'In all these weeks, couldnt you even once, just once tell me that I was acctually working for Jai Walia?' Pushkar didnt know why Bani was so angry. 'Are Bani? What is the matter? I didnt think it was relevant to take his name. This restaurant ...' Bani didnt let him finish his sentence. 'It was relevant Pushkar!' She got starttled of her own voice volum. She hardely ever raised her voice against anyone. Pushkar was just as suprised and walked towards Bani. He hold her arm carefully and gave her an investigating look. 'Bani, are you ok? Why are you so upset?' Bani's eyes filled with tears. She didnt mean to fall out on Pushkar, but Jai coming infront of her all of the sudden just shook her up. Not in her wildest dreams did she think she would meet Jai again. Certainly not here, in the small cosy restaurant where she had been working for the last couple of weeks. The fact that she was working for none other than him made her more upset than meeting him in person again. 'Nothing. It's just ...' 'It's just meeting me again that has upset her so much.' The strong, selfconfident and manly voice that filled the room made both Bani and Pushkar starttle and set a step back from each other. Jai walked up to them, his eyes fixed on Bani. 'Pushkar, please leave us alone for a while I need to talk to miss Dixit in private.' Pushkar who had by now a huge questionmark above his head, kept looking from Bani to Jai and back. Bani seemed to plead him with her eyes not to leave her. Pushkar tried to reassure her in the same language. When he tried to walk away Bani stopped him by holding his arm. 'No, Pushkar, dont leave. Mr. Walia and I have nothing to talk about.' A small smile broke through Jai's face. 'Pushkar, please make sure my guests are taking care of royaly.' Pushkar nodded his head and took Bani's hand in his. 'Ill see you in a little while gorgeous.' He winked at her and walked out of the office, closing the door behind him. Leaving Bani and Jai standing face to face.
There was an inconvient silence in the room. Bani cleared her throat and decided to leave the room. Without saying a word she started walking towards the door. She had almost walked passed Jai whe she felt how his arm hold her waist in a tight grip, preventing her from walking any further. 'Where are you going ...' He pulled her towards him, closing his other arm around her and bent over to her right ear and completed his sentence. ' ... gorgeous?! I thought we had still some talking to do.' Jai was suprised at the ease with which Bani fitted perfectly in his arms, but she didnt give him much time to enjoy. She broke out of his grip forcefully and turned around looking him right in the eyes. 'How dare you touch me?! Ive already told you I have nothing to say to you!' Jai looked down on Bani arrogantly and wondered what his friend Zyad found so angelic about Bani. To him she looked like a little devil right now. He grinned at her and walked towards the desk that was standing infront of him. Bani didnt bother to follow him. She tried once again to walk away, but Jai's voice stopped her once more. 'Dont get so vain. You are not that goregouse. I was being sarcastic, but I doubt a small-town girl like you has ever heard of something like that.' Bani's ego was hurt and she turned around to give Jai a lecture about small town people but she didnt get a chance. 'Miss Dixit save it! Im short of time, so sit down and stop throwing tantrums you can't afford it! Don't forget you position!' Bani was reaching her boiling point. She was once again insulted and humiliated by Jai Walia. She controlled herself and sat down. She took a deep breath and without looking at Jai she spoke with a steady and in control voice. 'Listen mr. Walia. I didnt know that this was your restaurant. Now that I know I will resign. I dont want to work for a man like you.' She lifted her head and turned to face Jai. Her words didnt seem to have the slightest effect on him. He smiled at her. A business tycoon smile. Full of confident and fake. 'Listen miss Dixit, you have a contract. If you have read it, you will already know that you cant walk out that easily. If you want to quit you will have to declare so by a letter three months before.' Bani interrupted him by clearing her throat. She got up from her chair and straightend her skirt. 'Very well mr. Walai. My regisnation letter will be on your desk by tomorrow morning and three moths from now I will be free. Have a nice evening'. For the third time she tried to leave the office but she was once again stopped by Jai. 'Bani! I said I need to talk to you dammit!' Bani stopped at once. Jai's voice was full of anger and threathening. She heard how his footsteps came towards her. A tight grip around her arm pulled her away. He pushed her back into her seat and there was fire in his eyes as he kept shouting at her. 'You wont leave this office ... no forget the office ... you wont leave this chair untill I tell you so. Keep you butt seated till Im done. Did I make myself clear?!' Jai had totally lost his selfcontrol. Bani had no idea what he had been through the last couple of weeks. He has looked for her everywhere. She had driven him into desperation and today out of the blue she was standing infront of him. He planned to talk to her in all peace. To apologise and bring her back home for Anjali, but Bani gave him a hard time. She made him flip out, despite his good intentions to be kind to her.
The scared look on Bani's face made Jai let go of her arm and closed his eyes. He tried to control his anger. Bani had a hard time breathing. She tried her best to swallow away the lump in her throat. For a second she was scared he would slap her. She had never seen him this mad, not even that day when she resigned from her job and he had thrown money at her. With fear in her eyes she kept looking at him. After a little while he opened his eyes again and looked straight in hers. His face had softened and so was his voice when he spoke. 'Anjali is missing you, you know?' Bani sat up straight with her hands on her lap. She wetted her dry lips with her tongue before she answered him. 'Why are you telling me this?' Jai couldnt believe his ears. He snapped.'How can you be so heartless! Anjali loved you with all her heart. If you hate me why are you taking it on my daughter?! What did she do to you?!' He had once again raised his voice and had litterly jumped out of his chair looking down dangerously on Bani. This time she didnt get scared as her anger took the best of her. She also jumped out of her chair and poked her index finger on Jai's chest. 'Bloody hell! How dare you call me heartless! Ive called Anjali a million times! Ive came to visit her so many times, but they never let me see her of speak to her on your orders! You heartless selffish stupid jerk!' Tears were in her eyes. She tried to hold them back, but she couldnt. Jai was tacken aback by Bani's outburst. He tried to make sense out of her words, but he couldnt. He was well aware of her sharp nail that by now had almost dug a hole in his chest. 'You have come between me and Anjali! I loved her so much and I would never hurt her, despite my hate for you!' Her face was all red and wet with her tears. Jai gently hold her hand and broke the constant contact between her finger and his chest. She pulled away her hand and walked around the desk, opened the draw and got herself a tissue. Jai took a deep breath and had once again softened his voice. 'Bani please believe me if I say that I dont have a clue what you are talking about. Which "orders" and who are "they"?' Bani being all miserable by now, dropped herself in the comfortable leather chair and explained to Jai that his butler Tony, his sister Jigyasa and his security guards never let her speak or see Anjali, telling her that Jai had strictly forbidden any contact between her and his daughter. Jai dropped himself on the chair again as he had realsised what dirty game his sister had played on him. He couldnt believe Jigz could be so heartless. 'That is not true Bani. I never gave such orders. Kasamh Se. Please believe me. This must be all my sisters doings.' His voice was trembling and sounded odd to both him and Bani. She looked at him with teary eyes as he put his hand through his hair and walked towards the window. His broad shoulders were handing down as if they were bearing the worlds burden. With his hand in his pocket he kept standing there without saying a word.
After a while Bani had calmed down and wiped her tears. She got up carefully and walked upto Jai. She gathered all the courage she could find and almost whispering asked him how Anjali was doing. He didnt answer, so she asked him again a little louder this time. He once again didnt answer her. Bani took a deep breath and put her trembling hand on his shoulder. She gently made him turn around. 'Mr. Walia I asked ...' The words got stuck in her throat when she saw his teary face. With a broken voice he told her that Anjali wasnt doing well at all. 'She collapsed Bani! And its all my fault! I hate myself for it. Please believe me Im so sorry for whatever Ive done to you. Punish me, but please dont punish my little princess. She doesnt deserve this. Please Bani help her and help me!' Bani was shaking all over her body. She tried to say something, to assure him that everything would be alright, but she couldnt. The words refused to be spoken. She just nodded her head and instinctivly put her arms around Jai. He hid his face in her neck and while holding her in a tight hug he cried his heart out.
