Rano: (outraged) Oh, shut up! Why are you here?!

Rano: (glares at him)

Rano: (growls) First of all, I would never go anywhere with you! Secondly, something has come up so I'm not going anymore….so tell Tanya that I can't make it and something has come up.
Saahil: Like what?
Rano: Excuse me, but I don't think that is any of your concern! Ever heard of personal business?
Saahil: I think I deserve a good reason for why you're not going. I've already wasted 10 minutes of my precious time coming here to pick you up, and now you are telling me that you cannot go?
Rano: Yes, that is exactly what I am telling you. Now you can make a U-turn and go on to YOUR cousin's party…..(her anger rising a bit)
Saahil: Well now, if you ask me politely, I may just leave…
Rano: (inhales and then exhales, calm voice) You will be just wasting your time here, so I suggest and think it would be wise of you to just go on to your cousin's party without me. And tell her that I am very sorry that I cannot make it, a personal matter has come up.
Saahil: (curt) Teek hain, I'll tell her. See you later.

Saail's window goes up , the engine turns on, he makes a U-turn, and drives down the street and out of sight. Rano walks back up the driveway, her cheeks flushed after recalling how he said she was sexy. But she immediately forgets that when she realizes that she has to deal with a weeping eighteen year girl, who just ran away from home.

Dear Raj Patel,
I have suffered the past 5 years in this hellhole called a home. I have dealt with a lot lately after the death of my mother from your harsh humanity, tormenting my mother to commit suicide. I quietly endured it all, but what has been happening recently, I cannot endure. Raj crumbles the piece of paper in his hand, that he had found laying on top of his daughter's bed, in rage. Her hateful words haunted him. He closes his eyes, trying to process this all in, trying to take it all in. Suddenly his eyelids open, and he screams on top of his lungs, shaking the whole house.

Raj: MRS. PETERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bani: (smiling) Dinner was great, don't you think?
Jai: (sighs, sarcastically) Absolutely, best two hours of my life, having to sit down and unwillingly listen to Aman's lame jokes after every five seconds! And having him interrupt us every five minutes-- god I swear I'm going to (turns his hands into fists)

Bani begins to laugh, seeing Jai like this. He really did look ticked off. Hearing Bani's laughter, immediately washed away Jai's anger and replaced it with a smile.

Bani: (giggling) Poor Aman, I have a feeling that he's going to be in for it.

Jai begins to stroke Bani's cheek and looks at her with his muddy brown eyes.

Jai: Yeah, he's going to pay for keeping me away from you……

Quickly, butterflies begins to roam around in her stomach. Jai pushes back a strand of Bani's silky hair from her face with his other hand, and then gives her a steady passionate kiss, which Bani stops after awhile by pulling away from him and getting out of the car door.

Bani: (through the car window, blushing, smiling) Goodnight, Jai….

Bani flashes a last smile before turning her back on him and walking up to Aarti's apartment.

Jai: (runs his fingers through his hair) Damn, I love her…

Riya continues to sob loudly on Rano's shoulder, as Rano rubs her back, trying to soothe her. Two hours had flown by Riya crying away and explaining the whole reason why she had run away.

Riya: Now you understand my situation, Rano. What was I to do? I couldn't stay there for another moment. I had to leave. But I couldn't go to any of my relatives or friends, because they would had informed papa where I was. So that is why I came here. I know that this also wasn't a smart move because your father obviously will inform papa once he sees me here, but no other place came to mind.
Rano: No, Riya, it was a good thing you came here to meet me, but we just have to hide you from Papa. Or better, get you as far away from Raj Patel.
Riya: I was thinking of leaving the country, but I don't have any money.
Rano: You don't have any money? (surprised)
Riya: (wiping away all her tears) I know that it sounds unbelievable, but it's the truth. My papa takes control of the money and he would only give me money if it was necessary to get things for me.
Rano: (sigh) that is a problem….(idea pops into her head) Hang on Riya, I'll be right back.

Riya nods her head and watches Rano walk into her room and come outside moments later with a shoebox in her hand. She sits back down with Riya on the couch. Rano hands the box to Riya, who gives her a puzzled face.

Rano: This is my entire life savings. Use this money and go anywhere you want. There's enough money. Settle down there for awhile, and when it's safe, you can come back.
Riya: No, Rano, I can't take this. This is your money.
Rano: Riya, I had been keeping this safe for just in case an emergency came along, and Riya, this is an emergency, and this money will help you. Please take it.
Riya: (her eyes watering again) Thank you, Rano.
Rano: Don't mention it.

Riya hugs Rano tightly, feeling so touched.

Rano: (pulling apart, looking at her) But Riya, where are you going to go? Are you sure you want to leave the country?
Riya: Yes, just for now. I"ll come back after a while, but live somewhere else far from Mumbai.
Rano: Where are you planning to go?
Riya: I was planning on staying in England for a day or two with Bani and then from there I can decide where I want to go. (grasping the box) Will there be enough money for me, Rano?
Rano: (stroking her hair) Yes, I guarantee you, there is enough for the trips. I think England is a great idea. But where will you go on from there?
Riya: (thinking) I do have an Aunt who lives in Rome, who despises my father. They haven't talked in years. But hopefully she will take me in for awhile.
Rano: When are you to leave?
Riya: Most likely tomorrow, I'll buy the tickets to England. (looks at the clock) Rano, I should be going now.
Rano: Abh?
Riya: Yes, Nishikant uncle will be coming soon, and I should leave before he arrives.
Rano: Do you have a ride? Do you know where the airport is? Do you have language?
Riya: yes, I do. I paid a taxi driver all my left over money to wait outside for me and then take me to the airport.
Rano: (her eyes watering) Riya, are you sure you'll be alright on your own?
Riya: (faint smile) Don't worry, Rano, I'll be absolutely fine. I am no child.
Rano: (laughs) That's what every girl says once she hits eighteen.
Riya: (her faint smile grows bigger) Yeah, but I assure you that I'll be fine, this isn't going to be the first time I've traveled alone.
Rano: Okay, if you say so. But I want to hear from you, okay?
Riya: Don't worry, I'll contact you at times.
Rano: Where are you going to stay tonight?
Riya: I can check into a hotel, don't worry. And from there I will go to the airport.
Rano: I'll call Bani di tomorrow and tell her that you're coming to see her.

Both girls are startled as they hear the doorbell ring loudly followed afterwards with loud knocking.

Rano: (curses under her breath) -- Riya, I think it's papa! We need to get you out of here!
Riya: (equally terrified) But from where?!
Rano: (thinks) Back door!!!!

Rano leads Riya quickly to the other side of the house and to it's backdoor.

Rano: Take care of yourself, Riya. Be safe.
Riya: Will do, Rano. Thank you for everything. I'll see you in a few weeks or months. (small smile)


Riya gives her a quick hug and opens the door. She grabs the shoebox containing Rano's money and looks back at Rano for a second. She then steps out into the warm and mild weather as she closes the door behind her. Yelling coming from the front of the house rushes Rano back over to the front door. She hesitantly opens the door and sees that it indeed is her father, looking very tired and worned out.

Rano: Hi, Papa. How was work? (trying to calm her voice down)
Nishikant: Another tough day…..(looks at Rano) But why did it take you so long to open the door? - And what are you wearing?! Wait, what are you doing at home? I thought you were at the library?
Rano: Um,….I came home early?
Nishikant: Teek hai, par yeh tum kya phenari ho? (trans: Fine, but what are you wearing?)
Rano: Um…..I was trying it on?
Nishikant: Oh okay…(puzzled) Rano, I have a very big headache from today, so could you please make me some tea?
Rano: Sure thing, papa.

Before going to the kitchen, Rano looks out of the window and sees a taxi driving away from the house and down the streeth. She lets out a sigh of relief.

Nishikant: What are you looking at?

Rano: (pushes the curtains back) Nothing!

Rano walks into the kitchen, preparing to make tea for her father. Nishikant also enters the kitchen, hangs his coat and bag onto his chair, and sits himself down. He lets out a huge sigh.

Rano: Were you over worked?
Nishikant: (nodding his head) Hain…and top of that, another problem has come up. (rubbing his forehead)
Rano: (opening the teabags) Kaise problem? (trans: What kind of problem?)
Nishikant: Rano, you won't believe what happened.
Rano: Well at least tell me.
Nishikant: Raj called me awhile ago and told me that his daughter, Riya, ran away from home today.
Rano: (her back stiffens) …..kya…?
Nishikant: Hain, I was also stunned when I found out. Riya left him a letter telling him, but she didn't write where she was off too. He is very furious.
Rano: ….(nervous)What did he say?
Nishikant: He's trying to find her, but his exact words were that if he finds her, he will kill her.
Rano: (gulps down) ….this is horrible….
Nishikant: (shaking his head) What Riya did, wasn't right…..But I don't understand why she ran away in the first place. Was she not happy with her father?

"Of course not. Who would be with a father like that?", was what Rano really wanted to say. Instead, she kept her mouth shut and dropped the teabags into the boiling water.

Rano: Do you want sugar in it?
