(**They come so close, yet have to break apart as stupid Pia enters with her impeccable timing as usual!!)

Pia: Banidi!! Banidi!! Oh, aap dono yaha he…. Tum theek to ho na di…..?

Bani opens her mouth to answer, confused at her sister's anxiousness on seeing Mr Walia. Inside she is torn apart by a million different emotions all created on seeing him storm ino the house, take her into his arms and….. She hadn't expected to be so affected by his presence and was annoyed with herself at her weakness. She had to remind herself that she wasn't his wife anymore….. that she didn't mean anything to him….

Jai: I… I'm sorry Pia. Woh… ghar pe maine tumse kya kuch nahin kehdiya?! Tum samajh nahin sakti ke uss waqt mere mann me kya chal raha tha aur upar se tumne aisi baat kahi ke mujhe apna gussa par kabu hi nahi raha. Woh aaj subha……

Pia: Koi baat nahin Mr Walia… ghar pe sab ne mujhe batadiya ke aaj subha kya hua tha. Maafi to mujhe maangni chahiye. Gusse me kya kya mere mu se nikal gaya?!

Bani is listening to this exchange with mounting confusion.

Bani: Yeh aap dono kya baat kar rahe hai?!?! Koi mujhe bataayega bhi?!!

Jai sighs in exhaustion and sits down. The rollercoaster of emotions he had experienced since last night had left him thoroughly drained. His head was pounding and his heartbeat was going through the roof!!

Pia: Woh actually di….

She explains the days events and Bani listens in shock, watching Mr Walia the entire time. She is touched at the thought that news of her death has affected him in this way, but then thinks to herself that he was probably just stressed, his reaction was nothing more than guilt at her leaving the house like this. If he felt anything more than he would have stopped her in the first place…..

Pia: Issi liye Mr Walia yaha aaye the di, bas apne aakhon se aap ko dekhne ke liye.

Bani: I… I'm sorry Mr Walia.

Jai looks up at her, confused at her choice of words.

Bani: I'm sorry ke mere vajah se aapko itni taqleef aur pareshaani uthaani padi.

Jai looks ready to protest but is interrupted by Pushkar's sudden entrance into the house.

Pushkar notices Jai and immediately looks angry.

Push: Ye yaha kya kar rahe hai Bani?! Ab bhi koi kasar baki rehgaye hai ke woh-

Pia: Pushkar, yeh to-

Push: Nahin Pia. Inse kahiye agar inhe kuch bhi kehena ho to soch samajh ke kahe. Bani ab akeli nahin hai. Unki fikar karne ke liye hum hai.

Jai looks at the floor, unable to look up at Bani, afraid of what he might see. He hated Pushkar for stopping him before he could explain himself to Bani and tell her why he had lost his mind with worry for her. But, he couldn't deny that they all had every reason to despise him after the way she had treated him. He clutches the kangan in his pocket, looks up at Pia and thanks her for everything. He goes towards the door and without turning back says quietly:

Jai: I'm sorry for my behaviour Bani…. Pata nahin tum mujhpe yakeen kar paongi ya nahin, lekin yeh sach hai ke kal jo bhi hua, usse mujhe bhi koi khushi nahi mili. Aur yeh bhi sach hai ke me apne aur apne family ke behavious se bahut sharminda hoon. Agar ho sake to….

He cannot finish and just walks away without turning back, too afraid at what he might se if he were to look at her again.

He walks out of the front door, disappearing from view, before Bani can muster the strength to reply to his words. More tears fall from her face as she fights with the feelings in her heart, trying to think with a clear head…..

Pia watches them both from afar and the truth slowly dawns her.

Pia: Banidi, mein jaanti hu ke Mr Walia ke ghar mein aapne jo kuch bhi saha hai, uske baad aap shayad kabhi unse baat bhi nahin karna chaahengi. Lekin aaj maine jo dekha hai uske baad mujhe yahi lag raha hai ke shaayad aap ko is tarha unhe chhod kar nahin aana chaahiyetha….

Push: Lekin Pia, uski aise behaviour ke baad Bani kyun-

Pia: Mein jaanti hu Pushkar! Lekin jis toote hue insaan ko maine aaj dekha tha, woh tum dono ne nahin dekha. Pehli baar maine Mr Walia jaise aadmi ko aise haalat mein dekha tha! I can't explain Banidi, he looked so hollow and… and lost. Bas ek baar Banidi, shaayad aap ko unse mil lena chaahiye. Kahi akele me. Us ghar, un logon se door. Shaayad yeh aap dono ke liye achcha ho….

Pia and Pushkar go upstairs, leaving Bani in turmoil, wondering what Pia means…. thinking about their interrupted closeness, the feel of being held in his strong arms….

She sits in front of the dying fire, the house is in darkness and we hear a song play in the background "o sanam o sanam…. kaash hota agar… tum nibhaate jaate ye… zindagi ka safar…. hum bhi tanha na rehte yuhi umra bhar… tum saath hote agar…."

The next morning….

Pia: Banidi….. Banidi utho…… Banidi aap yaha kaha sogayi uthiye na!!

Bani opens her eyes and looks up at her sister, slowly realising that she had fallen asleep in the sofa in front of the fire thinking of…..

Pia: Banidi aap puri raat yaha thi?!

She sits in front of her older sister, trying to choose her words carefully…

Pia: Banidi… mein jaanti hu ke aap ke man me kya chal raha he. Jab Mr Walia kal yaha aaye the, jab unhone ne aap se mafi maangi, to maine aap ka chehra dekha tha di. Aisa lag raha ha tha jaisa aap ki duniya aap se koi cheen raha ho! Maine kabhi aap ko itna dukhi, itna mayoos nahin dekha….. Banidi, sach sach bataiye…. Kya aap Mr Wali se pyaar karte hai…?

Bani looks at her in surprise, she hadn't realised her feelings had been so evident. She mumbled and stuttered, not meeting Pia's eyes until Pia lifted her face and looked at her with a slight smile. Bani burst into tears and hugged her sister.

Bani: Haan Pia, haan me Mr Walia se bahut pyaar karti hoon!! Me sirf us ghar se issliye chali aayi ke mujhe lag raha tha ka vo bhi yahi chahte the!! Usne mujhe jab roka nahin to maine socha ke mera vaha rehne se faydaa hi kya hai?! Unke dukh ka ek aur kaaran mujhe nahi banna tha Pia…. nahin banna tha….

Her words dissolved into tears and Pia hugged her sister. Her Di, who was usually the strongest one, was now broken because of a love she didn't know how to express.

Pia: Banidi…. suno… suno di – ab rona bandh karo. Bahut achi tarha jaanti hu me aapko. Kal raat he muje yeh realisation ho gaya tha ke aap puri tarha se Mr Walia se pyaar karne lage ho. Aur di, mujhe yahi lagta hai ke Mr Walia bhi aap se utna hi pyaar karte hai jitna aap unse karte hai. Di, don't look so shocked. Aap ne kal Mr Walia ki haalat nahin dekhi thi! Jab unko yeh laga ke aap….

Issi liye maine unhe aaj aapse milne bulaaya hai!

Bani: WHAT?!!! Pia yeh tumne kya..?!!

Pia: Now don't argue with me Di… aapko unse dus baje Marriott me milna hai!!! Aap jaldi se naha lijiye, tab tak me aap ke liye kapde nikaal ti hu! Aaj aap Mr Walia ke hosh udaane wali hai!!
