Pia: Now don't argue with me Di… aapko unse dus baje Marriott me milna hai!!! Aap jaldi se naha lijiye, tab tak me aap ke liye kapde nikaal ti hu! Aaj aap Mr Walia ke hosh udaane wali hai!!

The clock strikes 10am and already Jai has 4 empty coffee cups in front of him. As soon as he received the call from Pia he had run from the house, ecstatic that Bani wanted to meet him. He rushed to the hotel and ran into the caf expecting to see her waiting, before realising that it was only 9.20!!

Since she had left him he had experienced every emotion in the world, and it all boiled down to one fact – he was in love with her. He had not realised it, and then tried to fight it, but couldn't do so any longer. He was saddened by the fact that it had taken something as drastic as the thought of her death to make him accept it. But that was all over now. Even if she didn't feel the same way, he was happy in the knowledge that he had finally learnt the meaning of true love.

He looks up and what he sees takes his breath away. The sight of Bani in a pink saree, simple and beautiful – just like her, her silken hair casually falling over her shoulders – every thought was wiped from his mind and all he could see was the beautiful woman walking towards him… innocent shy smile, twinkling eyes. Her earrings catch the sunlight as she walks, making her look like she is surrounded by a glittering aura. His eyes move down from her perfect face to her fair swan-like neck and his heart clenches as he notices the missing mangalsutra. Chudiyaan, paayal, everything enhanced by her natural beauty. He cannot take his eyes off this angelic vision – so beautiful and pure…

Bani: Mr Walia….. Mr Walia…??

Jai shakes his head, and comes back to reality.

Jai: Umm… sorry… er…. betho Bani. Kya logi? Coffee, tea, juice?

Bani: Kuch nahi thanks.

An awkward silence settles between them, but soon Jai, calm, confident and resolute in his intentions, is the first to break it.

Jai: Kaisi ho tum? You look… you're looking…. Amazing!

Bani blushes: Thank you. Aap… aap kaise he? Bahut der intezaar nahin karvaaya na maine?

Jai: Nahi Bani… not at all…. I'm just glad that you wanted to meet.

Bani: Woh Pia… kal jo hua uske baad….

Jai: I'm sorry Bani. Kal mujhe pata nahin kya hogaya tha. Lekin you can't understand. Tumhaari us tarha ghar se chale jaane ke baad, jab hame khabar milli…. Tum soch bhi nahin paongi mera kya haal hua tha!! Us laash se hame tumhaara purse milla tha, aur voh kangan…. hum aur kya soch sakte the??

Bani: Jab me aapke ghar se nikli to me sidhe station par hi chaligayi thi. Maine soch liya tha ke Mt Abu wapas jaongi. Mujhe Mumbai me rehna hi nahin tha. Staion par me apne train ka intezaar kar rahi thi jab ek ladki mera purse cheen ke bhaag gayi. Maine unka peeche bhi kiya tha-

Jai: WHAT? Kya Bani tum bhi…?! Agar woh tumhe kuch kardeti to?!! Us purse me aisa kya tha?!! Sidhe Police ke pas kyun nahin chaligayi?!!

Bani: Woh… purse mein meri kuch keemti cheeze…

Jai: Kya Bani?!! Agar uske paas koi chaku yah phir gun hota toh?!! Tumhaari jaan se to kuch kimti nahin hota na?!!

Bani: .. aapne jo kangan diye the woh…

She looks up at him and he smiles and shakes his head at her innocence.

Bani: Is sab me mera train bhi miss ho gaya aur mere paise, mera phone sab kuch us purse me hi tha. Issi liye me Pia ke ghar chaligayi. Woh pehele to mujhe dekh kar bahut hairaan hui, lekin phir maine usse sab kuch bataadiya. Bahut sarphiri hai woh…. Jab subah hui to vo seedhe aap ke ghar aagaye, mere manaa karne ke bawajood…. pata nahin usne aap se kya kuch kehdiya hoga……

Jai: Usne aisa kuch nahi kaha jo ghalat tha Bani.

He pauses as he realises something

Jai: Ek minute… ek minute, (his temper begins to rise), aadhi raat ko tum Bandra tak chali gayi?! Kya bachpanaa hai yeh?!! Station toh Walia House se sirf dus minute door hai, tum waha kyu nahin aayi?! Kya lagta tha tumhe, ke me tumhaari madad nahin karta? Itna bura samjha hai mujhe? Ya phir apne aap ko bahut self-sufficient maanti ho?! Bandra tak?!!!!! Agar aadhi raat tumhe kuch ho jaata to kya karte hum?! Kaha dhoondhte tumhe?!!

Bani, becoming annoyed now: Aap kyun mujhe dhoondhne aate Mr Walia?! Aapne hi mujhe us ghar se…. aap hi to chaahte the ke me uss ghar se chali jau!!

Jai: WHAT?! Ghar chodne ka faisla tumhara tha Bani!! Haan me maanta hu ke gusse me aake maine bahut kuch boldiya, lekin uska matlab yeh to nahin ke sachai jaan ne ke baad mera nazariya wahi rehta!! Itna stubborn samajh hai mujhe?? You don't know me at all!

Bani: Don't patronise me Mr Walia!! Aap ne hamesha mujhe ek boj hi samjha hai!! Agar aap ka nazariya badal hi raha tha to aapne kuch kaha kyun nahin?! Sab mujhe samjhate hai, lekin ghalati kiski thi?!! Thak chuki hu me apne aap ko dosh dete dete! Aap bhi to mujhe rok sakte the-

Jai: Mujhe laga tha ke tum us ghar se jaana chahti thi Bani!! Phir me kis haq se-

Bani: Ha!! Jaise ke aapne pehle kabhi meri chahto ko pehchaana hai!! Is baar aisa kya hogaya aap suddenly meri feelings ki fikar karne lage?!?! Why do you care?!!

Jai, standing up in anger: Because you're my wife goddamit!!!! Because I've fallen in –

He stops, realising that the entire resaurant is full of people staring at them. Bani notices the same and her cheeks burn bright red. She runs outside, too embarrassed to take her eyes off the floor. Walking hastily onto the main road she is about to hail a cab when she feels a firm hand on her shoulder.
