Chapter 12 B

Finally the day of the show arrived. Adi had reminded Jai in the morning and in the evening to be on time. He had left instructions with his driver and sectary also.

Jai just had one comment for that to Adi

Jai: Adi if you had so efficiently managed the running of the business then I would have no worries.

Adi: Business is your cups of tea not mine. The whole day you can sit and plot for you it's like a game of chess.

Jai: Adi please I don't want a character analysis done now. I know I am not one of the best people in your books. So let's leave it at that.

Adi: Why Jai you try to get yourself away from the people who care so much for you.

Jai: You don't want me to answer that and spoil a nice day. Don't worry I will be there as it's in memory of my mother and this event has cost me.

Adi: Cost you…

Jai: So Bani hasn't told you that would be a first. She is not telling anyone.

Adi: Telling what

Jai: Oh why don't you ask her?

Adi: Definitely and I never knew you both were such great pals.

Tarun: just walks in that moment

Tarun: Who is Jai's pal now?

Adi: Bani

Tarun: A female as in friend of Jai Oh I have to meet her.

Jai: No you don't as you have work to do for me.

Tarun: Oh no today you are getting me I just came to tell you that I have some other engagement. Massi has personally invited me.

Adi: It sure is a small world Jai.

Jai; Tell me about it. Looks like the whole world is going to be there, while I make a fool of myself.

Tarun: When did you start going for such functions. And Jai attending a social gathering which has no benefits for him that sure is new to me.

Jai: If I am gracing my presence for the occasion then there has to be a reason.

Adi: Don't tell me it's because of your mother's memory. Tell that to someone who doesn't know you.

Jai: Who said I am going for my mother.

Adi: Then for whom.

Jai: That is for you all to find out.

Tarun: What am I missing here?

Adi: Frankly only Jai can tell.

Jai: So see you then at the show.

Tarun: seriously is he coming.

Adi: Of course he is supposed to be the special guest.

Tarun: Hey did the sun rise in the west today.

Adi: I don't know about that but one evening with Bani and he is a lost case.

Tarun: Seriously man what is going on in that head of his.

Adi: Don't ask me. Just go along with the flow. And when you meet her in person you will know why?

Tarun: Hey she is a kid as far as I know.

Adi: Walk up buddy you don't want to be late. It's fine for Jai to be royally late for everything but Massi doesn't approve anyone else to be late as we are all mere souls that serve while the king can make appearance in Grandeur.

Tarun: Don't let Jai hear this and you are getting too much influence by Nattu now I think. And this Bani I have been hearing a lot about her off late.

Adi: Of course now that she has permanently shifted to Bombay you are bound hear. After all Massi and the two body guards in the house keep hovering around her.

Tarun: Oh Pushkar and Nattu. So where does Jai come into all this.

Adi: As far as I know all he has done is make the girl run for cover.

Tarun: Be it young or old Jai must be loosing his charm for a mere girl running away form Jai Walia this is first.

They go on chatting away till they reach the function and when Tarun sees Bani for the first time she has done the makeup for the dance but still in the day to day dress. The kids are hovering over her for the candy bars she has got in the bag. The kids are begging her to give one more.

Bani: No you are not getting. You troubled Massi all week while I was at the rehearsal. The deal was you all are good then you get bags of candies. Now you all aren't getting any till the show is over and you sit quietly without disturbing Massi and everyone.

Anu: Please didi only one.

Bani: No Anu and she put one in her mouth. The more you all plead one by one the candy goes into my mouth.

Pushy: Stop being such a meany you are having the candies without sharing Bad manners hai na Bachhos.

Sahil: She said she would give us after the show.

Pushy but now she is having.

Ranveer: So what it's not yours?

Pushkar turning to Nattu: Hey I thought to score points with the kids and here the kids are against me itself.

Anu: Didi always shares when ever she gets candies only today because she is katti with us she isn't sharing. You both never share only. Always taking didi's share also.

Pushkar: What?

Nattu: You asked for it.

Meanwhile Adi and Tarun make their presence felt. The kids run to him. And Adi carries Anu asking how his princess is doing. Sahil complains that no one cares for him. But then Bani comes and pacifies him. This makes Anu jealous. Finally she Hugs Aditya.

Bani: Oh you have come and she keeps looking around.

Adi: Ha ha but still I haven't got my kiss looking for someone.

Bani: No who said so.

Adi: Come on now relax you will not loose your face. And he is coming to see your performance He jus got to tie up a few things and as usual he will come in style that is fashionably late.

Tarun: Oh by the way since no one is bothered to be interested in me Let me introduce my self Tarun: Jai's lawyer and partner in all the mishandling and demolishing he does. In short partner in all the crime he commits.

Bani: Oh so you are Tarun. Nice meeting you. Nice of you to come Massi said that you would be coming. And thank you for buying the ticket and donating for the cause.

Tarun: Anything for a beautiful little angel like you.

Bani: Eh Angel.

Tarun: Why someone else calls you that way.

Massi: Bani, Hey ram this girl will never be on time ready and then keeps panicking.

Tarun: Massi come on we are getting to be friends here.

Massi: ha ha you have all the night. And she moves away taking the kids and reminds Bani enough of masti and to get going. Dragging Pushkar and Nattu also along. Telling that Biji would have caused a commotion by now. To which Aditya replies then why do you leave her.

Massi: I have got enough on my plate don't expect me to baby sit your mother also.

Bani: She loves to hover around and then keeps complaining. Don't mind that. Care for a candy. I saved it form those brats and two duffers.

Tarun couldn't help laughing she was a mixed bag. Different from any of the girls he and Jai have been around while growing up. But then she was a kid so what is going on in his friends mind was puzzle to him but he was sure that they would find out.

The show was great everyone praised Bani and as promised Jai was on the dot to see Bani perform. And he did give away the prizes. Jai was also photographed with all the prize winners. He was finding the whole scenario a bit discomfortable while the whole family was enjoying Jai squirm his way through the questions the kids had for him. They were bombarding him with various questions and Bani was enjoying it too till

Girl: So you have traveled everywhere in the world.

Jai: Kind off

Girl: What do you mean by kind off? It's a yes no question.

Jai: Ehm you could say I have visited the places where ever I have seen good business ventures.

Girl: Oh so in short not everywhere. Then why do they say you are a globe trotter.

Jai: Where did you read that?

Girl: Oh that in the tabloid section.

Jai: Are you supposed to be reading those kinds of things at your age.

Girl: Didi says a girl is got to know all the tricks to keep a man hooked up. So the tabloid is a good place for researching who're hot and in. Jai was wondering the didi was one interesting person and somehow by the look on Bani's face he could say the girl was referring to her but he wanted a confirmation which he got the very instant

Jai: Didi as in

Bani wanted to interrupt the conversation before this heads for a disaster and all those stupid things come out in the open and the whole family and Jai make a toast out of her.

Girl: Bani Didi you don't know her she is the best.

The family was enjoying at her expense and she didnt like it one bit. So hey all of you guys don't you wan the cake I promised and munchkins the candy bags are waiting. So she got them all diverted and in the mean time the organizers came to thank the family for gracing with his presence and for spending some time. There were a few press people also to whom he addressed on the whole it was nice evening. And then they all decided to head for the hotel for dinner Jai too joined them. It was a buffet night there with the Italian theme. It was dine up area around a canal side. It was an up market place with the Venice theme in mind. You could have a boat ride for two. While the people dined on the sides of the canal. Jai out of the blue decided to invite Bani saying that today may be the star could accompany me for the boat ride when Pushkar and Nattu ditched Bani. As the ride allowed only two people in a boat Nattu and Pushkar went together and Bani wanted to go but they both jumped in and Jai chose this very opportunity to get Bani on to the boat.

On the boat ride Bani was very quite.

Jai: So what happened to the talkative side of your is it currently switched off.

Bani: What do you wan to know and we have no common interests.

Jai: ha I beg to differ. Its quite interesting to hear your views as they are real insight.

Bani: insight into what.

Jai: For someone like you to know what's happening with the people around you. Bani were looking confused.

Jai: How else would you be explaining about the little ones comment "how to hook up a man."

Bani: Oh no. She is a big mouth and its not my fault that every other paper things you are so news worthy that they can sell the paper by having your name printed.

Jai: Even I too never thought about it. And stop changing the topic

Bani; Where we discussing something.

Jai: Just laughs you are one person who could be never termed boring. Now she was getting annoyed. First he wants to small talk and then he brings up all those stupid topics can't he ask something about her performance or couldn't he just say if he liked it no. It has always got to be about him.

Bani: And sorry to say this but Mr. Walia even if you can start enjoying the lighter things in life you wouldn't find things so boring.

Jai: Oh so everyone has been feeding you what a bore and hard headed person I'm.

Before making an impression a person I would advice you to get to know them better.

It always helps.

Bani: why would I want to do that?

Jai: Know me. Oh just like that

But Bani felt strange why did he want to know so much about her and why did he always disturb her so much. Tonight again she would have sleepless night as half the things what Jai talks to her goes above the head and he seems to have those eyes that bores into your mind and heart and can read everything you think before its out of your mouth. Why was it that he could create so much of confusion in her? And also make her loose her temper and also why did she feel great whenever he complimented her also.

Meanwhile for Jai he was getting to know her better and he felt that she was woman that could keep him tied down but still the age gap and then there are lots of other factors too. But still if Jai Walia set his mind to it he knew she wouldn't escape from him. But the question still was Does he wants to get into it. Because if he wanted something there was nothing stopping him.

Chapter 13 A

Things were back to normal As usual Bani was busy as her final term exams were due to start and then she had vacation which was preplanned they were going to Mt. Abu as the house required some renovating job which had to be taken care off. Then Massi had some social work she used to be doing when ever she was around there. So in short it was a visit to catch up with things. And As for Jai it was as though he had ceased to exist in their lives as he was always busy and half the time he wasn't to be seen.

Occasionally after the vacation Bani got to see him in the club. Where she went for her tennis practice with her friends and Nattu and Pushkar also used to be there. They had a big gang of friends over there. Sometimes they would have a party around the pool. Or they would go bowling or something like that. During one such visit she had a glimpse of Jai but wasn't sure if he had seen her as he was with set of business associates and Tarun was with them. And they had headed to the business centre in the club. Bani felt as though he had seen her but just didn't want to meet up with her he had more important things to do. Bani felt a little bad as she wasn't used to being ignored by people and Jai's attitude towards her always left her confused and today was no different. She was a little mad that he thought so little of her that he didn't even acknowledge her with a smile.

But one day Bani was in for a big surprise so were her friends. Though Bani hardly saw Jai he had seen a couple of times her with the friends whenever he frequented the club but couldn't meet up or acknowledge her as he was always surrounded with people. He didn't want to be explaining or introducing who Bani was. So he kept this distance.

It was a little late and Nattu was held up so she was enjoying her chat with Daksh. He was her best friend Rano's brother and her tennis partner. Rano had just headed to the changing room to get herself ready to go. Meanwhile Bani thought to take another dip as Nattu had informed tat he would be delayed by another half an hour. She was just in her two piece swim suit and chatting away. There were some boys by the other side of the pool and they were teasing and making fun of Bani.

Boy1: Hey you two couldn't you both find some place more private to carry out this romance session of yours.

Daksh: Any suggestions guys.

Boy2: If you could hook up yourself with such a pretty and hot looking one like her sure you should have some tricks up your sleeve.

Bani: Hey guys what gave you the impression that he hooked up with me not the other way round. I never knew I was surrounded with a gang of mcps. (Male chauvinistic pi*s)

Boy1: Oh my girl with a mind of her own. Hey baby then why choose him.

Bani: Because he was s the first one available. You guys are all hooked up.

Daksh: Bani not fair brining down your own boy friend. And where would you find such a good looking romantic guy.

Bani: Oh please, learn to live with it that in this matter I'm one step ahead of you. If you were to say I love you to any girl she would be left waiting her whole life.

Daksh: Are you trying to flirt with me or are you saying that you are in love.

Bani: See guys what I have to put up with. He just doesn't get anything into that big head of his.

Boy3: If I were you she would have been mine by now.

Jai who had been listening to this banter all along from the other side couldn't take it any more. First sdhe is in a two piece attire barely covering herself and to top it she is least bothered of the comments others make about her. What does Massi think by leaving her in the club this hour and she is here shamelessly flirting with every boy.

Bani: In your dream my dear. You are not up to Bani's standards.

Jai enters at that moment.

Jai: Oh nice to hear that Bani. And Drags Bani by the hand and hands her a robe saying. Cover yourself up and make it fast.

On seeing Jai manhandling her. The boys. Hey what are you doing Leave her alone.

Jai: You don't want to mess with me. You don't know who I'm.

Seeing the look on Jai's face they just backed off and Daksh was like a statue as to what was happening till now they were having fun and from where did he come and why isn't Bani saying anything. Normally she would give it good to those who try to confront with out a reason.

Bani was in state of shock as to from where did Jai land up, Did Nattu send him as he was getting late God why was it that always she was in some awkward position whenever she met up with this man. It looked as though they were jinxed. He had been in this club so many times and hardly acknowledged her presence and today he comes and embarrasses herself in front of her friends this was too much She actually wanted to say something but then stopped by the look in Jai's eyes. They were hard, cold, steel gray eyes which was a warning just follow or you are dead meat.

Jai waited around the changing room while Bani got dressed and Rano who was there was surprised to see Bani walk past her without even saying bye to her something was not right so she just joined her brother.

Rano: Accusingly, what did you say to Bani?

Daksh: What did I do now?

Rano Then why did she walk as though she was in a daze. And you all look like someone has just walked off with your head.

Boy2: Well you can say that again. By any chance do you know who it was?

Boy 3: That was Jai Walia for you in the flesh.

Rano: Oh no don't tell me he was here and saw you all guys with Bani.

Daksh: So what I hope he doesn't vent of all that anger on her.

Rano: Well don't worry I will surely get an update to night of this fiasco Knowing that person who has gone with her and in the mood you are telling me She is a toast to night.

Daksh: Better call and tell Nattu.

Rano: Ya as though it will help in any ways.

Daksh: God only knows from where he propped up.

Rano: Well the devil can make his appearance any time. And lets make it home I am tired and I am sure I'm going to have long night considering the fact that my own brother just send my best friend to the gallows.

Daksh: Hey I didn't even know who he was.

Rano: That why we tell you come out of that stupid artistic world to the world of reality so at east you know about some living souls like us.

Daksh just looks at his sister and thinks how such a pleasant evening went all wrong with the entry of one man Jai Walia and how was he related to her.

(Daksh is fairly new to Bombay he was in Paris all along and doesn't know much about the business world although his father runs business and has some tie ups with Jai. He had befriended Nattu and Pushkar through his sister and Bani and had become eh member of the club. He often enjoyed his tennis matches with Bani and they were a popular mixed doubles team in the club)

Jai rode away in his car in silence. Bani just wanted to tell something. But Jai stopped her by saying.

Jai: Before you open your mouth and something let me tell you as long as you are under Massi's care I have every right to interfere in your matter. So don't give me the looks who do you think you are.

Bani just stared at Jai. Is he a mind reader or what?

So the journey was in silence. But the moment the car stopped Bani just opened the door and ran off into her room. She felt like crying or throwing things around to vent her anger. What does that man think of himself? How dare he things as though she is some property of his. She wanted to actually give a piece of her mind but then one look from him and she felt as though he would swallow her up there. Why was she always tongue tied in front of him?

Meanwhile Massi was in a daze as Bani just ran off without even looking at her when she was coming up with her tea and snacks normally she hovers around Massi saying that she is hungry. She has an appetite that could feed a dozen people.

But with the entry of Jai she realizes that something has really gone wrong. What is it with the two of them she wondered never can see eye to eye.

Massi: What is wrong with Bani?

Jai: Nothing is wrong with her only that she is thoroughly spoilt by everyone and she needs to be straightened out by someone.

Massi: so you elected yourself for the job.

Jai: Well no one seems to be bothered what she does or where she goes and comes so do I have a choice.

Massi: Can you tell me what she did this time.

Jai goes to explain the details.

Massi just could not get it why he was so hyper about it.

Massi: So what she is a teenage girl even you and Jigyasa had your share of flirting so what's wrong when she does it. Just because we bring her up doesn't mean that she cannot have fun. She is only a little girl.

Jai: A little girl Massi. You are contradicting yourself Massi.

Massi: What do you mean?

Jai: Well let me remind you Massi today morning as we were trying to come up with the new plans for the industry you had asked to wait for sometime as Bani would be of the legal age to inherit and be apart of the board.

Massi: Oh so that is your problem. Munna let me tell you something. That rightfully belongs to her and she will inherit all that on her eighteenth birthday you knew that from the beginning. And now she is your enemy because of that. So you vent out all that on her like this.

Jai: No Massi why would I want her as my enemy when I stand to gain a lot being on her side. And I am not a person to bark at someone without a reason.

Massi: So then what is the problem? She is a teenager and they are bound to have boyfriends just because she is a part of the industry doesn't mean she has to be serious all the time.

Jai: Serious Massi. Is she ever? The problem is your ward needs a little bit of growing up to do. And you shouldn't fall for all whims and fancies.

Massi: I like the way she is. And don't expect everyone to be black and white like you. And everything need not tally in a balance sheet.

Jai: OH massi sentiments aside everyone looks at the end of the day the balance sheet and prefers to be on the profitable side. And today's mornings discussion is not over Massi next week after I'm back from London you will have to be accountable for the future developments.

Massi: If you think I will give you a hold in Bani's shares you are highly mistaken Jai.

Jai: Massi you are forgetting one more thing in another few months you will not have a say only as she is going to be the owner of it. Do you want your daughter handling me all alone I don't think so? So Massi I shall let you know the timing about the next meeting. How come when it comes to Bani's matter from Munna I become Jai Walia for you.

Massi: Because I know you my child you devour what ever comes in the path of your success.

Jai: All the more reason for your little Bani to grow up to take a stand against me or also to be with me Don't you think so Massi.

Jai had left from there. But now Massi was disturbed highly as to what Jai had said. Initially Massi just over looked Jai's interest in Bani as he cares for every member of the family. But now she feels as though everyone was playing a part in Jai getting to know more about his next prey Bani Dixit.
