The Aristocrats Wife

Chapter 1

The whole board room is waiting for the presence of one man. Jai Pratap Walia. The King maker as the news papers refer him too. He was not only the number one business man. But he wielded power he could make your future as well as destroy it. He had the world at his feet and had achieved what most people could only dream off. For his allies he was their winning chit but He was not a man you would want to cross with.

As he walks down the corridor he has a team of men following him and is giving an update on the share market and the various developments in his business. This is the way his life has been for a while. When you look on to that face all you can see is cold steel gray eyes which doesn?t reflect any kind of emotion.

But there was a time even though only for a brief spell those eyes twinkled with happiness. In it there was depth and understanding may be only for one person. The only person who got to see the real Jai Pratap Walia his wife. But now that light was no more by his side and he turned out to be the most stone hearted person.

Like any other day Jai was heading back home late form work when his sectary beeped him saying that the lawyer from Toranto is still waiting for him.

Jai: I said I do not have time for all that.

Sec: But he has been here since afternoon, Sir and I don?t think so he will be leaving without a meeting with you sir.

Jai: Fine Send him and tell him he has got five minutes top, I don?t have time for all this nonsense.

The lawyer enters

Lawyer: I?m Tim Burton I work with a legal firm by the name of?.

Jai: Listen Ehm. Mr.

Lawyer: Burton

Jai: Yes I want you to come to the point. I don?t have time for all this.

Lawyer: As you know I been trying to reach your aunt for the past two weeks in regard with her ward she had been guardian to.

Jai: She has not been stepping out of the house for like two years now because of her ill health and now you come talking about a ward.

Lawyer: I didn?t say in the recent two years. You will have to go back at least fifteen years if I am not mistaken.

This had Jai sweating and rather very disturbed. Could it be her. My angel.

Jai: Come again.

Lawyer: I would like to meet your aunt in regard with Bianca Ray Martin.

Once again his hope was all dashed.

Jai: I am not aware of any one by that name she had sponsored. As I Have been looking into her affairs fro a long time now.

Lawyer: Perhaps you could arrange for me to meet up with your aunt. As my client had specified that she was to be notified if anything happened to her.

Jai: So your client is no more.

Lawyer: That?s not what I meant. I would like to discuss the intricate details with your aunt as she will be the person in charge as currently my client is hospitals after a serious accident and is in a state of unconsciousness but the doctors are hopeful of her recovery. In the mean time her other affairs have to be taken care off so I?m just doing my job here. So please Mr. Walia an appointment with your aunt would be highly appreciated.

Jai: Then I?m really sorry to disappoint you on that account my aunt has been paralyzed now for the past six months for get moving around she has difficulty in expressing herself too.

The lawyer was really dejected. He saw the helplessness in his eyes.

Jai felt something for the lawyer for the first time in years he felt the need to help someone.

Jai: One question as a lawyer why would you come down so many miles just for a client.

Lawyer: She is a family friend of ours too. And my wives best friend.

Jai: So its more personal, Since you have come all the way the only thing I can do is may be we could discuss this case in front of her she normally replies in gestures and if the nurse can interpret something may be I could help with the rest.

Lawyer: That would be great and thank you for your time and consideration. It?s highly appreciated.

Two days later the lawyer comes to an old Haveli. He was shown through a lengthy corridor and he was shown to the room where Jai?s aunt along with he nurse waiting for him.

Lawyer: I?m sorry I got delayed a bit because of the confusion with eh roads.

Nurse: That?s fine normally we sit out here for half an hour and she gets some fresh air and likes to be read something. So today may be you can do my job.

Lawyer: Thank you for time Mrs. Manohar Singh

As Jai was coming in and hearing his aunt addressed that way he was surprised as no one addressed her that way in ages. Who was this ward his aunt had sponsored.

Lawyer: I had spoken to your nephew regarding my client she was your ward at some point of time. That?s all she had said when you we made the legal papers.

Massi was showing some sings with her hand and eyes.

Nurse: I think she wants to know who your client is.

Lawyer: Well your nephew had a difference of opinion saying you had never sponsored anyone by that name. It?s been a long time but I hope you can recollect the name of Bianca Ray Martin

On hearing that name Massi went into a state of shock she started sweating it looked like she wanted to say something to Jai. She was on the verge to collapse. Jai immediately realized that there was something a miss. In between the nurses trying to put on the oxygen mask Jai faintly heard his massi say one word clearly Bani.

That was it Jai felt his whole world had come crashing down at that very moment.

Very mysterious , interesting start.

Chapter 2

Mean while two days later in Toronto. Tim (Lawyer) and his wife are all set to have dinner.

Ellie: So what do you plan to do now?

Tim: Frankly I think we will wait for another week as the surgery will take place now as the insurance company has given the approval for it.

Ellie: What do we tell the kids?

Tim: Let's hope for the best.

Ellie: I thought may be her aunt to shed some light into her past life which she never talks about.

Tim: She should have her reasons for not talking about it.

Ellie: But somewhere there is a husband of hers.

Tim: Are you sure about that.

Ellie: How many times have we tried in the past twelve years to hook hr up with someone but point blank she refuses to date?

Tim: She has her reasons and you know it.

Ellie: Oh please not that what you are thinking of. In fact the people who showed great interest in her were ready to accept the past. It would have helped her in building up her life more with less tension.

Tom: You cannot be the judge of that. She enjoys her dancing and the studio has made a good name for itself. She has a good team now and a good intake of students every year.

Ellie: But ever wondered in spite of being such a good dancer she never gives performances.

Tom: Stop dissecting her life like she is one of your case studies.

Ellie: Don't tell me haven't you ever thought why there is so much of mystery surrounding her.

Tom: Stop psychoanalyzing her. Keep it with in the four walls of your office.

Ellie: Come on now me being a psychologist doesn't have anything to do with this. I feel it's just unhealthy for someone to go on for so many years clinging on to the past.

Tim: You cannot say that. She has moved on made a better life for herself here. She is independent and quite successful in life.

Ellie: Yes financially and as a person she might be strong. But haven't you noticed a void in her life. I have always wondered whenever she smiles and achieves those eyes still hold sadness. As if waiting for someone.

Tim: You and your imaginations.

Ellie: Then why doesn't she talk about the man.

Tim: Let it rest tomorrow when the kids come in I don't want any of this discussion. We will visit the hospital together.

Next day morning

Tim comes in with young kids around the age of twelve. They are twins. A boy whose appearance itself reflects his genius ness. Smart and those grey eyes have a sparkle that you cannot miss. But the face shows anxiety. The girl is quite contrast to it. A curly mass of long hair, Beautiful almond shaped brown eyes. She would make the perfect model for the artist to paint. She was very graceful, sweet and chirpy. More like full of energy while the brother was reserved she could chat on and on.

But today even she was a bit worried.

The boy (Shaun): So are the doctors hopeful.

Tim: Can't say.

The girl (Ami): So did she regain conscious.

Tim: Yes somewhere in-between that is why the doctors decided to go ahead with the surgery. There have been no internal bleeding and also no infections so they are hoping the surgery should help her.

Shaun: When can we go see her?

Tim well today in the afternoon but cannot say she would be conscious. The medicines make her drowsy all the time and it helps her to ease the pain to.

Ami: why did I have to insist her that evening to come for the show. If not she wouldn't be there.

Tim: Stop blaming yourself you know she wouldn't have missed it. It is what she has worked her life for. Your solo performance was a mile stone in her life I might say.

Shaun: I have been telling h r that and to concentrate on her dancing.

Ami: I cannot get my steps right now days have never practiced without her guidelines for any shows. And now I am to do a solo number without her to cheer me up.

Tim: No my child you have to be brave for your mum. It's her dream when you first put on those dancing shoes when you were three.

Shaun: Now don't screw up when you meet her. No tears and that entire guilt trip. We don't want hear all that to. You are going to give her all the lovely dovey details about your show.

Ami: Yes Hitler.

Shaun: Stop calling me that.

Ellie: Well at times learn to be sensitive to your sister.

Shaun: Yuck for her to go all teary on me. Please.

Tim: Enough Kids. So be ready to go in the afternoon.

Ellie: So what do you both want to have for lunch?

Shaun: Forget the lunch Just tell us what happened to Uncle Tim's visit to India.

Ellie: Well it was kind of dead end.

Ami: Why?

Ellie: The aunt she is seriously ill and don't know after hearing the name Bianca she was disturbed and had a relapse of her attack I believe.

Shaun and Ami: What?

Ellie: But he did meet the nephew he is some kind o fussiness man.

Shaun: Who?

Ellie: Ellie some one by the name of Jai eh …I don't remember.

Ami: Jai Pratap Walia.

Ellie: Yes how do you both know that name?

Shaun: Oh nothing once we had seen a photo of his in her cupboard while cleaning so she kind of mentioned him.

Ellie: What did she say?

Ami: Nothing much to go by if you ask me.

Ellie: Still

Ami: Only that today she is everything because of that one man.

Ellie: Really

Shaun: aunt please you don't have to tax your brain so much. The person we are talking about is quite aged.

Later during the day the kids come to visit Bianca.

Shaun and Ami go and sit by her side and each of them hold hands.

Ami: Hope you can hear us. Just then she feels a tug.

Ami: Shaun she just responded.

Shaun: Lower your voice.

Ami: Ya you know Shaun has started bossing over me too much. He kind of comes to my rehearsals and wrecks it up as you know and all my friends just sit there and drool over him which drives me mad.

Shaun: Stop whining and learn to appreciate your brother a little bit.

Ami: Yes Hitler. You have to be out of this bed very soon mum or this son of yours will drive me nuts before my show. And you are coming to see me perform.

Shaun: And don't worry mum. She is jealous. When the attention shifts form her to me. But I rest assured I am big enough to take care of your Pari and her dancing.

Just then they feel that the machines have started making all kinds of noise. They couldn't register what was happening. The doctors and the nurses rushed in. The kids left for the waiting room. Thinking what went wrong now.

Shaun and Ami are Bianca's kids. Ami is a ballet dancer.
