Hey guys, thanks for the great response… Here's part one and I'm sorry it took forever to get here… Hope you like it!
Part 1
A light current seeped through unknown cracks… as though desperately escaping the deathly calm of the world outside… Dehli… the raj dhaani (capital) of this place… a place billions called "home"… Yet… so many labelled… homeless… Thousands walked the streets of this city at a time… some with purpose… others lost in the crowd… strangers…
A long silhouetted figurine stretched across the wooden flooring… tracing its existence to a figure clad in a colour akin to the depth of the mysterious night. Soft waves of silk hid a set of hazel eyes void of expression, yet holding an uncanny spark of questions… perhaps read only by the most penetrating of gazes. The eyes steely pierced the strangely calm exterior… Softly, the metallic key of the object on the wall continued… as the soft current silently gained momentum… As though sensing the chaotic tranquility of the air, the loosely kempt window feebly gave into the raging gust of wind… sending the black hairs entirely over the face… while small rectangular papers flew randomly in the air… settling down as the winds lost their strength… The figure remained still… as everything fell into place…
Her thoughts faded as her eyes gathered the scattered pieces of paper… dispersed in different directions as though broken glass… Carefully, she bent to her knees… collecting the distant memories… Doing so, her eyes fell across moments of bliss captured in the smiles of the people staring back at her… As she looked over the one in her hand at present… the smile of the young couple echoed faintly upon her own lips… her finger gently caressing the faces… so familiar… yet so remote… "Aahn… tohra aur… tohra aur… haan! Ye hui na baat…" Her dimples sunk in deeper at the recollection of her father making up for a missed promise… And just as suddenly… they vanished… As the image afore became a blur… her eyes shifted towards the next photograph… A young man of apparent handsome features winked at her… "Gauri… tum sharmaati ho na, toh tumhaare gaalon ka rang bilkul tamatur ke jaise laal ho jaata hai.." (Gauri… when you blush, your cheeks blend into the colour of a tomato)… The distinct masculine laughter mingled with her own irritated calls filled her senses… and faded away… "Nitesh…" the whispered name clung to the air as it parted uneasily from her lips… Along with the long passed… came the recent passed… "Tum jaanti bhi ho, ke humaara kitna loss hua hai!" (Do you have any idea how much of a loss we have encountered!) The shrill voice of her profit-oriented Boss impinged upon the restless silence… Squinting her eyes shut, she gently re-opened them to see the fine droplet fall upon another lost moment… as she slowly got to her feet… her fingers loosened their grip one by one… as the memories vanished into the dark room once more…
***
[Where the teaser left off]
The soft hissing of the jewel just moments before garnishing her petite wrist now faded into the mysterious sounds of the hours of darkness. It was a strange night… The streets of Dehli lay barren of humans... As far as the eye stretched, not a soul was to be seen... Yet it felt as though each corner hid a pair of eyes, capturing every movement... An unusual silence reeked in the atmosphere… A deathly restlessness encompassing even the calm... as though the silence prior to a storm…
She felt the cool air bite at her skin as she pressed on… Determined to get out of this place… Run away… away from this foreign city… the strange people… escape from the disconnect… Suddenly her feet ceased mid-step…The question blared in her face as though mocking her state… Kahan jaogi? (Where will you go?)… The colour drained from her face as she realized that wherever she went… she would always be… ek ajnabee…
Shrugging off the dreaded silence, she moved on… determined… When she felt a pull on her arm… Too shocked to react, she felt herself being pressed against a wall… Squinting her eyes, she pulled up an arm against her face turning it to the side… A moment passed in excruciating silence as her chest silently heaved in anticipation… When the fatal blow never came… her eyes carefully re-opened… as her free arm fell rigidly to her side… The soft music of the bangles chiming against each other interrupting the stillness…
Looking up, she stared into a pair of deep-set almond eyes… driven with an unseen intensity… They appeared to challenge her… testing the endurance of her failing composure… Slowly, the strong features registered into her confused mind… Trailing her gaze to the finely defined jaw-line, outlined by an unshaven stubble… the firm cheek-bones… the slightly parted lips… and back towards the eyes… Long strands of hair extended just above the neck-line, pulled back from the front by a clasp coloured akin to the mane…
Her breaths suddenly seemed to choke through and she felt as though there were something stuck in her throat… Swallowing deeply, she winced in pain… waiting for the fixed grasp on her wrist to loosen… and looked towards the arm extended towards her shoulder. An uncomfortable sensation reigned her senses as the continuous gaze of the stranger mapped her every angel… Still withering in pain… both emotional and physical… a sudden flow of anger engulfed her and she looked confidently into the ajnabee's eyes… Just as she met them… her anger dissipated… margining into a deep frusteration… Opening her lips to say something, while bringing up her still captured wrist… her eyes widened in horror as the spectacular sound of an explosion rang relentlessly in the deaf night… Following his instinctive gaze… her free hand automatically covered her mouth as the devastation afore sunk in…
