"Thanks" She stood for a moment... taking it all in.. as her heartbeat quickened... and then proceeded to the cupboard and then the bathroom...
Part 2
As the door shut behind her, she stood against it for sake of support... her chest heaved up and down and her eyes closed as she recalled the pain... and now this. He had thanked her. The reality of it all took a moment to seep in and she slowly regained her breath not allowing the previous event to linger for fear that it may only be a temporary thing... his change in behaviour. But as she slipped into her night gown she could not help but repeat the moment in her mind and each time, she sank deeper into some unknown sea... "Ye mujhe kya ho raha hai?" is all that came from her low voice... to her relief, when she stepped out, he had already drifted into sleep... or so it seemed. As she bent down to straighten her pillow, a sudden gust of wind blew into the room and blew her hair everywhere over her face... the rain had now stopped, but a wind had grown and she quietly walked over to the large window and realized the latch was not done up properly causing it to fling open. The drapes flew and she struggled with closing the window and holding the curtains back... all the while faintly aware of the two intense eyes piercing into her back... Finally she managed to get things together and turned around only to see his face softened in sleep.. was she imagining? She could have swore that he was watching her.. or she could feel his eyes.. faintly even, while she went through the ordeal of closing the window... too tired and confused, she lay down and drew over the cover closing her eyes for the night... as she did, his opened and peered down at her face. He had noticed before, but failed to actually recognize it... her face revealed a blaring innocence. How did he ever accuse her of anything? And even when he did, she said nothing... and that weighed him down so... in an attempt to shake off these new feelings, he closed his eyes and drifted into an odd, new dream...
Morning had taken so long to arrive she thought as she sat infront of the mirror, recalling the past night... As she struggled with her bangles her concentration was broken by his entrance into the room from the bathroom. He was, like usual, in his towel only and went to the cupboard to find some clothes. She had gradually become accustomed to this ritual of a sorts in the course of her eight months in this familiar room... she tried not to let her eyes trail.. but they did not cooperate. In between trying to put on her stubborn bangles, she realized he was in some sort of dilemma. The suit was chosen, an off-white with a crimson coloured shirt... the tie seemed to be the problem... she could hear him silently cursing under his breath not knowing which to wear... Unintentionally, she dropped the bangles on the table in frusteration and walked over to him. He realized she was approaching, but did not move his position. As she had a long time back, Gauri reached in and pulled out a solid off-white satin tie and held it out to him. He looked at her for a moment.. She dared to look up for a second expecting him to rage and throw the tie down but was surprised at the expressionless... almost softness of his face. Rather that what she had expected, he took the tie and went to the mirror and began the procedure. She stood there, confused... a hint of pleasantness threatened somewhere in her heart as she went back to the table and continued her struggle. Again, her eyes wandered, out of curiosity this time, to the mirror on the wall... the one showing his face. He had now completed tying, and sort of moved back to observe himself. With what seemed like a stroke of satisfaction, he took the pants and entred the bathroom once more...
What kind of a day was this? It was only morning and such weird events had taken place confusing her thouroughly and these damn bangles... why did they demand so much attention? It had never been a problem so far... why now? In her frusteration, she failed to see him coming back out, despite his handsome presence in the mirror infront of her. He was about to walk towards the bed to grab his suitcase when for some reason his steps led him to her... As he approached her, she felt him nearing and her heartbeat quickened. What had she done now? Oh God, no more, its so hard to take she prayed silently... Slowly she stood up in acknowlegement of him... He stared at her for what seemed like an endless second and then slowly took her hand and took the bangles.. gently pushing them onto her small wrists.. His action stunned her... and she felt paralyzed... completely unable to react... "Shiv ko kya hogaya hai?" she thought... and with the final bangle, he gently let go of her hand, gave her an expressionless look, went to the bed, grabbed his suitcase and went out the door, turning only at the door to say, "office mein important meeting hai, neeche jaldi aa jao, hume jaldi nikal na hai"...
Cheers,
