Simple walks out of Kaajjal!

Simple Kaul is one helluva choosy actor who wants nothing but the best in terms of roles. If not been given enough scope to deliver, Simple is actuated to call it quits! And that's what she did with her latest show, Kaajjal (Sony) where she

Simple Kaul: Time for serious work and a break!

essays the character of a radio jockey.

"My role of Niki, an RJ, turned out to be a regular negative character with nothing different to portray. I thought I'd lots to do but realized there wasn't much energy in the character and I wasn't happy with the way it shaped up hence I called it quits. The production house is very good and they didn't want meet to leave but they had no choice as I'd made up my mind," sighs Simple who has been a part of the show for the past three months and has two more weeks of shoot left in Kaajjal.

The Delhi born actor is traveling to the capital for three days to meet her family and take a much deserved break.

Simple had started her career with Shararat and went on to do shows like Yeh Meri Life Hai, Twinkle Beauty Parlour and the recently wrapped up show, Aisa Des Hai Mera.

For now she wants to categorically stay away from the typical saas-bahu roles and intends to do comedy which she enjoys the most as it involves less pressure!

Will Dev Sir replace Armaan Sir?

Apurva Agnihotri is still known as Armaan sir but he's hoping to change that soon.

DEEPALI DHINGRA

Apurva Agnihotri is happy that people are finally giving him the recognition he deserves for playing Dev Pratap Singh in Sony's Kaajjal. "My track's being appreciated by the audience. To be very honest, people have latched on to the show only recently and the serial's quite rocking now," he says.

Considering that his role of a boss with a secretary in love with him is quite similiar to that of Armaan Suri in Sony's Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, did he not feel that there would be comparisons? "Well, there's been a conscious effort from our side to not make me look or sound like Armaan Suri. I also know that I'll never be able to erase Armaan sir out of people's minds," he admits candidly. As for the boss-secretary relationship, Apurva has this to say, "I guess the bosssecretary relationship is the same everywhere. Bosses are known to have a soft spot for their secretaries," he jokes. But on a more serious note, he thinks it's unfair to compare Kaajjal with Jassi. "Kaajjal is more independent than Jassi. And there have been other serials based on the boss-secretary relationship," he avers.

Apurva started his journey in acting from the film Pardes and then turned to television. But considering that many of his fellow actors are making a comeback to films, will Apurva too follow suit? "I have no mental barriers about films being bigger than TV. For me, it could be a street play but it has to excite me. I'm a typical Sagittarian that way. I have to feel the rush," he adds. At the moment though, Apurva says that he's concentrating only on Kaajjal. "My space is very important for me. I like to monitor my growth as an actor and that can only be done if one is not overworked," he says.

Now that wife Shilpa is also quite busy with her shows, how much time is he able to spend with her? "These days, we both are able to meet only after work for a couple of hours. But we'll be taking a break soon to go out somewhere and come back rejuvenated," he says. So is he planning to extend his family? "At the moment, my family is my mother, my wife and Kaajjal," he says before laughing, "I mean the serial!" But on a more serious note, he says that they will plan a baby in a year or so. And will he make a good father? "I'll make a fantastic dad!" he laughs.

"I am not really sexy, I am cute," giggles this Chandigarh-bred, Mumbai-based girl. In her first show, Kahiin to Hoga, Surveen Chawla wore very short dresses and tight kurtas unlike the other women around her.
It got her noticed, and also got her the lead role in
Sony TV's Kaajjal, where she plays a small-town girl who comes to Mumbai in search of a career. "I did the same three years ago. It's a big high to have all the attention focused on you and to be in almost every frame."
Though back in salwar kameezes for the serial, Surveen says she loves dressing in tight jeans and tees. "But I do not have a style statement. It's anything I look good in. I like to dress according to the occasion and my mood. I am not too fussy."
She gets bored easily and
television can get quite monotonous, "but right now I am enjoying doing the lead role." Surveen likes to play characters who are spunky and do not toe the line.

Simple walks out of show

Apparently, the actress has decided to leave Kaajjal after reading a report that showed her in bad light.

Simple Kaul

Simple Kaul aka Nikki has decided to quit Kaajjal-Sabbki Aankhon Mein Basi. The actress is unhappy with the way her character is shaping up in the serial. When contacted, Simple said, "I was not happy with the way my character was shaping up in the serial. My character Nikki, is supposed to be a radio jockey, which I thought would be something really exciting to portray, before I accepted the role. But, it turned out to be like any other negative character. There are already three vamps in the show including me. So, it was pretty evident that I won't get enough screen space. So, I decided to quit."

Off late, Kaajjal has not been getting good TRPs. Is that also a reason for her leaving the show? "I am least bothered with TRPs. If I am happy with my character — be it big or small, I will do it. At the end of the day, I need to be achieve my creatively satisfied," she says.

Did she have any problems with the production house? "Not at all," she quips.

When contacted, Rajesh Pavitran, CEO of Twenty Twenty Television said, "Apparently Simple was uncomfortable after reading a report that suggested that the actress did not get along well with her co-stars. Simple was rather upset and decided to leave the show."

Surveen Chawla better known as Kajjal speaks about her co-star Apoorva Agnihotri and her love for acting

She plays the bubbly girl from Mussourie with dreams of finding her 'rajkumar' in 'Kajjal-Sabki Aankhon Mein Basi'(Sony) and has stolen a million hearts in the process.

So far so good
"I have got to play a character that I have not played before. It is a simple, not complex, yet a brave, bold and realistic role," says Surveen who was earlier popular as Charu in 'Kahin To Hoga' and Kasak in 'Kasauti Zindagi Ki'.

Giggling with Apoorva

What's cooking between them?

We have often heard of on-screen chemistry turning into a reality but seeing is believing as in is this case where Kaajal and her Dev Sir of Sony's Kaajal seem to be really attracted to each other. Yes, we are talking about none other than Apoorva Agnihotri and Surveen Chawla.

A perching birdie has tipped us that Surveen, who generally doesn't mingle with her cast members, gets along only with her lead co-star Apoorva. And Agnihotri too, who is known to keep to himself and is also a man of few words, is quite loquacious with the perky lady.

Co-stars vouch for the excellent chemistry the lead pair share and also confirm that even if they are shooting in two different units, Surveen waits for Apoorva to have lunch together after which they enjoy a long and relaxed time puffing away while the rest of the cast waits patiently for the shoot to resume.

We wonder if Apoorva's better half, the beautiful Shilpa Saklani, who is so much in love with her Sonu (her hubby's nickname), has any idea of what is happening in-between the shots on the sets! After all, when you spend long hours with each other, attraction is inevitable between two good-looking people.

Apoorva, Surveen: what's up?

Their cootchie-cooing on the sets of Kaajjal has led to much speculation.

Chhod do aanchal... : Apoorva with Surveen Chawla

The side-effect of working together sees actors either bonding or bickering. Kaajjal may not have sent TRPs soaring for channel, but it sure has steamed up the lives of its lead actors Apoorva Agnihotri and Surveen Chawla. Apparently, the duo has set the grapevine buzzing about their relationship.

According to a source on the sets, "Apoorva and Surveen have been seeing each other for the past three to four months. In fact, the entire set is witness to their romance. The two are really into each other and don't mind being over-the-top as far as public display of affection is concerned. The whole unit knows about the fun they have on the sets."

With gharwaali:Apoorva Agnihotri with wife Shilpa

Says a source in the production house, "Shilpa doesn't visit the sets. So, Apoorva has all the liberty to do what he likes there. The Apoorva-Surveen affair has been going on for the past three to four months. Everybody on the sets knows it. They are very open about expressing their love for each other. They keep doing mushy stuff in front of everyone."

Another actor on the condition of anonymity says, "Surveen doesn't talk to anybody on the sets other than Apoorva. They always eat together and these sessions tend to go on longer than scheduled. Surveen is not a friendly person at all. And when Apoorva and she shoot on different sets, she becomes very irritable. This is just adding to the existing problems on the sets."

Another unit member adds, "Apoorva is known for his aloofness on the sets. But, with Surveen, he is a different person. Both of them always make sure that they have lunch together under any circumstance. They prefer to rehearse dialogue together too. They have been spotted several times together in the make-up van."

Surveen Chawla, when contacted laughed at the issue. "I have been working for the past few years and I have been linked up with all my co-stars. I am tired of all this. I have nothing to say beyond that," she says.

Apoorva, despite repeated attempts, was not available for comment.

Surveen Chawla and Apoorva Agnihotri in Kaajjal
There are rumours that Surveen Chawla and the much-married Apoorva Agnihotri are dating. But the latest is that the lead pair of Sony's Kaajjal does not exchange even a cordial 'Hello'. When we called Surveen, she said, "My life has gone for a toss. Enough is enough. I need to speak up."

We hear you and Apoorva are not talking to each other?

That's right. We stopped talking after that ridiculous story that said we're having a scene. Consequently, the atmosphere on the sets has become very uncomfortable.

Is that affecting your work?

Of course, it's affecting my work. I feel disoriented when I'm working, but I have no choice. My reputation's at stake.

So this means that you and Apoorva were not seeing each other?

Have I gone mad? I am not a girl with loose morals. Apoorva is a happily married man and is constantly talking about his wife, Shilpa (Saklani). Apoorva and I were like buddies on the sets.

If two people talk and laugh together on the sets, it is misconstrued as an affair! I don't know what kind of world we live in. Do I have to live in isolation and tape my lips when I am not facing the camera?

You mean somebody planted that story?

I wish I didn't have to believe this, but someone from Twenty Twenty Television (Kaajjal's production house) has told me that there's a black sheep in their family.

It's apparently been done to get back at me. Even if it has been done to create hype, I am not willing to put my dignity at stake to raise TRPs.

Why does Twenty Twenty Television want to get back at you?

There have been problems and heated arguments on the sets over time issues and other things; at times, the arguments have even become abusive.

Also, I am very strict about my payments; I had problems about my cheques not coming in time. What's wrong with ensuring that you get paid on time for your hard work? Sony is a very nice channel to be with, but the production house has driven me to the edge.

Did you call Shilpa to clear your conscience?

No. I thought about it at first, but didn't go through with it. I am terribly confused. More than that, I am angry.

I can't shoot without a relaxed mind. Believe me, I can't even have a bath in peace! When I am driving, my thoughts are elsewhere; I think I am heading for an accident. My life has gone upside down.

If you had been in Shilpa's place, what would you have done?

I would have been shaken up. I have realised we live in a world where people are so vindictive that they can stoop to any level to get back at you.

It's going to take me a long time to recover from this and I don't know if things will ever be normal again.

Any lessons learnt?

I wish I could teach a lesson or two to the people who've played with my reputation and dignity.

In retrospect, wasn't Balaji Telefilms (KTH, Kasautii) a more peaceful place to work? Only Aamna Shariff had a problem with you…

That problem was one-tenth of what I am undergoing right now! +

Surveen Chawla: Surveen Chawla showed us what she was made of, by overpowering Aamna Shariff in Kahiin To Hoga, before her character was unceremoniously killed in the show. She's finally bagged her first lead in Sony's Kaajjal. Will 2007 give Surveen more opportunities to display her acting prowess? The tarot gives us an idea.....

Personal Life- 2007 is not going to be a very good year for her personally, as the moon inicates disturbance along with delay. She is not getting her due and she will constantly giving in. It is better for her to wait till the following year.

Professional Life- She will face a new intellectual beginning in her career. But she has to be careful of getting cheated professionally this year. She will be busy with work.

The Tarot Message- She should be guarded in her personal life as she is prone to getting sheated all the time.

The Angel Message- The angels urge her to listen to her initution, which very often she does not. Listening to her inner voice can help her greatly.

Shilpa speaks out on Apurva's alleged affair!

Shilpa Saklani, the erstwhile Ganga of Star's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu thi and anchor of Fame X on Sab TV is upset with the media for the irresponsible reporting about her darling Sonu, Apurva Agnihotri .

"It's utter rubbish and has become a sort of a joke at home. Tabloids want lot more interesting news to fill their pages, so they end up sensationalizing issues," fumes Shilpa on the subject of Apurva's alleged affair with his co-star of Kajjal, Surveen Chawla.

She further states, "I have a lot of male artists with whom I kid around, have lunch, joke, play pranks but that does not mean we are having an affair. We have a home to go back to and share our day's experiences with our spouses."

"When you work 26 days, 18 hours, you rehearse, have lunch together and develop a rapport with your co-stars which is very essential for a pleasant work atmosphere. But this often gets misinterpreted in print," laments Shilpa.

According to Shilpa these rumours can play havoc in somebody's life. "I trust my husband completely. Also, such things can be very difficult for the other person too, who's not married and single. It is a question of her image which can get tarnished by such speculations and irresponsible writing," says Shilpa referring to Surveen Chawla.

Shilpa feels those who are infidel and stake their marriage need to see a psychiatrist. She is ready to start a family in a couple of years but for now, it's work that keeps her busy.
