Comeback kids

Tellywood's attracting its people back. Shama Sikander, Mona Vasu, Ajay Gehi get set for Round Two.

Shama Sikander

Shama Sikander, who kick-started her career with Yeh Meri Life Hai, about two years ago is set to make her comeback on the small screen with Kaajjal Sabbki Aankhon Mein Basi. The actress will be sharing screen space with Apoorva Agnihotri in the show.

According to Shama, the character she will now essay is an interesting one and completely different from what she had done in Yeh Meri Life Hai earlier. Shama informs, "Unlike a girl from the city, here I am playing village belle, Chameli. She runs a dhaba and is in love with Raju Rangeela (Apoorva Agnihotri)."

Chameli talks in a Haryanvi accent and the actress had to take help from one of her friends to master the art. "As I am from Rajasthan, I had a tough time picking up the typical Haryanvi accent. Then, one of my friends came to my rescue, helping me learn the language and I think I have almost mastered the accent by now," Shama says.

"Post Yeh Meri Life Hai, the offers were not at all exciting. So I preferred to stay off from those run of the mill scripts. Chameli's character is so different and that's why it's going to be my comeback vehicle," she says.

As far as working with Apoorva Agnihotri she is already showering praises on her co-star. "I have shot for just one day and Apoorva is fun to work with." When it comes to Surveen Chawla she prefers to be politically correct. "I hardly interacted with her on the sets of Kaajjal. I have done several stage shows with her and she comes across as a good person contrary to reports," she adds.

Are there any projects on the anvil? "I am just concentrating on Kajjal for the moment. Very soon, I am going to do another daily soap. I am also considering some projects from Balaji too," she says.

Kaacon Sethi, executive producer of the show adds, "She fits into the character very well. The track of Apoorva and Shama is the next best thing to look forward to."
Mona Vasu
Mona Vasu is all set to make a comeback of sorts to television (post Millee). The actress will be seen in Ek Ladki Anjaani Si opposite Ajay Gehi. Mona will be playing a schizophrenic patient who has had a mysterious past with Shakti Anand aka Nikhil in the show. It has been reported that Ami Trivedi was being considered for the role but was replaced by Mona Vasu.

"Mona plays this girl (Sonam) who will be Ajay Gehi aka Aryan's girlfriend. She has had a past with Nikhil and every time she sees Nikhil, she gets into this psychotic mode. Why she does so will be the mystery in the coming episodes," says Misha Gautam, the Creative Head of the show.

Post Millee, Mona has done a cameo on Shh Koi Hai and she will soon be going to Dubai for a Pakistani serial titled Rukhey Naina. "I am most probably doing it. I am on the verge of confirming the deal," says Mona, not wanting to reveal much about her role.

Ajay Gehi

The actor will don a flowing skirt, kurta and crimped hair look in the show. Shooting will commence from tomorrow and the show will be on air from 9 April.

On being asked about getting to work with Mona after so long, Ajay Gehi says, "Yes I have heard that Mona has been considered for the role of Sonam. She will play my girlfriend who is suffering from schizophrenia. The old tracks in the show will come to a standstill while the new track will focus on the lives of the four of us (Ananya, Nikhil, Aryan and Sonam)."

YOU MAY KISS THE GIRL NOW!

Recently 30 couples were caught and fined in Bandra for canoodling in public. We spotted our TV stars doing the same. Here's a look at some priceless moments (since we have no objection to PDA)

Of late, celeb couples have been apeing their Hollywood counterparts without any perfection. Post a traditional shaadi Ronit Roy and wifey Neelam exchange a macho smooch.

KISS-O-METER

Sharad Kelkar and Kirti Gaekwad are probably trying hard to hide each other's face a la bunny-style. The hug-me-tight pose had Kirti trying to break away. Didn't you know that lips don't lie? But a good attempt. Kiss-o-meter: 7/10

KISS-O-METER

We thought PDA was all about two consenting adults. But starlet Amita Nangia doesn't seem consenting, as hubby, Sanjay Bansal grabs her for a kiss. The verdict: it's a recipe for disaster. Looks like hubby dear has almost outraged Amita's modesty. If she had her way she would stuff her face with a piece of chocolate cake instead.

Vikas Bhalla and wife Punita are yet to bury their differences. What else will explain this oh-so-shoddy attempt at liplocking? Punita's attempts of kissing in the air has gone awry. Such reluctant pecking is best left to ostriches, perhaps?

KISS-O-METER

Sveta Salve and beau Rodney Barnes have mastered the art of an oh-so-wonderful smooch. They seem to have reached in a cosmic world altogether with their eyes shut.

KISS-O-METER

Shilpa Sakhlani's hormones are not exactly on an overdrive. She gets busy brushing her cheek against hubby Apurva Agnihotri's. Also, she seems to be whispering sweet nothings, much to hubby's delight. That's what we call getting affectionate with elan.

Kaajjal in safer custody

Failing to garner good TRPs, channel decides to hand over the show to a new production house.

Kaajjal is now in safe hands. The show will henceforth be produced by Shreya Productions instead of K Sera Sera, which had been producing it so far. When K Sera Sera decided not to produce the show any further, failing to garner good TRPs, the channel decided to hand it over Shreya Productions, which is currently running shows like Ek Lakdi Anjaani Si on Sony and Mamta on Zee. Says Sheel Kumar, producer (Shreya Productions), "A few days ago, the channel called us and asked us to take over Kajjal, which apparently is going through some crisis. I think Kaajjal has a good storyline. We plan to smoothen up the operations of the show besides improving on the creative potentials."

Says a source from the production house, "I believe the operations were not smooth and the show was not being handled properly by K Sera Sera. They have already incurred huge losses and therefore decided against continuing with the show."

"I enjoy doing Kaajal more than Kahaani" - Rohit Bakshi

Like almost all TV actors he too is recognized by the characters he's essayed on the small screen. Be it Piyush of Kahiin To Hoga, Vishal in Kyunki....or currently as Karan in Kaajjal and Shikhar in Kahaani…..Very few know the real man behind these portrayals - Rohit Bakshi who has been in this industry for many years but is still awaiting to shine in the limelight.

In an introspective chat with a reticent and low profile Rohit, Prashant Golecha brings forth a lesser explored side of the actor.

Career track so far
I used to do print ads in Delhi and came down to Mumbai to try my luck in
modeling. I gave a lot of auditions but nothing materialized. I was never interested in doing shows, as I had never faced the camera before. However, even without giving an audition I was zeroed in for Titliyan on Sahara One. It was troublesome to mouth dialogues. Later I went on to do Choodiya, Tanhayiha, Sukanya, Lavynya and Tum Bin Jao Kahan. Balaji approached me for a cameo in Kutumb and I eventually landed up doing Kyunki…. Kahiin Toh Hoga, Kahiin Kissi Roz and Kaisa Yeah Pyar Hai . Right now it's Kaajjal and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii keeping me busy.

A death scene specialist
For both Kahiin To Hoga and Kyunki I had to perform major death scenes. People still remember me for those shots. Frankly it is not a good feeling to enact those scenes or even recall them. Now I have made it a point to ensure that whenever I take up a project I won't be killed; death scenes when done repeatedly affect me a lot.

On not striking gold as a Balaji actor
I agree. My weak point are my poor PR skills. I had been laidback and introvert by nature and always believed that my work will speak for itself. But now I have realized PR is quite important career wise.

Kahaani or Kaajal?
I enjoy Kaajjal more than Kahaani.... In the former there is more scope for performance whereas in the latter my track is very regular. In Kaajjal the ambience of the set is very inspiring to facilitate the negative shades I portray in the show.

Relationship with Balaji
I share a good rapport with the production house and have been getting steady work from them. With Ekta it's a purely professional relationship.

My co-star Saakshi in Kahaani
It's a pleasure to work with her, she's very down-to-earth to easy to work with. We have worked together for GEO channel in the past for which we went abroad for the shoot.

Friends from the industry
Sumit Sachdev is one of my closest friends with whom I am in touch with on a regular basis.

Bollywood plans
As an actor one needs progression and after television everyone aspires for
films. I surely want to do masala films in fact. I don't mind running around trees. I have given a few auditions and have also got a new portfolio done. But I won't quit television for sure. I would like to create a balance. TV keeps the kitchen fire burning as it pays very well.

Luck v/s hard work
I believe that 90 per cent luck and 10 per cent hard work equals to success. If you are not destined to get something you wont get it, nomatter how much you try for it.

The real Rohit Bakshi
I am a simple, sensible, pragmatic, hardworking and very determined person. I am an absolute introvert and very short tempered. I do have a sense of humour and am very optimistic by nature. I'm the only son of my parents, my father's a businessman and my mom passed away in 2004.

Chora chori chane ke khet mein

The lead actors of Kajjal have taken their on screen chemistry seriously and are now a couple off-screen as well
Back to Section Stories Posted On Monday, October 15, 2007

Kajjal's new lead pair, Chahat Khanna (Kajjal) and Kinshuk (Dev), is a couple. Love blossomed on the sets during their recent long-extended outdoor shoot in Chandigarh. The story goes that the much-in-love couple often disappeared in the paddy fields while filming. Eventually, a week-long schedule was stretched to 35 days much to the pleasure of the two. "We had planned to shoot for seven days but ended up shooting for more than a month. The unit members were kept searching and waiting for Chahat and Kinshuk for hours, and then they would come back saying that they had simply gone for a walk. Since the entire unit was staying in the same hotel, the two always found ways to meet each other. Many were irritated on the sets, but nobody complained as both are lead actors," says our source.

21-year-old Chahat and 19-year-old Kinshuk took an instant liking towards each other after they met on the sets. Long hours of filming saw them sharing their daily dabbas and stories about their respective families. "They were shooting for long hours together, and ended up in love with each other. But it all happened in Chandigarh. Nowadays, they are stuck to each together on sets."

Misha Gautam, the producer of the show says, "Both, Chahat and Kinshuk are young. When one spends a lot of time together, such alliances are bound to happen. As long as it does not affect our work, we are fine with their closeness."

Chahat is a divorcee and she was previously seen in Kumkum and Kinshuk had worked for a Disney show. When quizzed about their liaison Kinshuk says, "We are just good friends and nothing more than that. She is a thorough professional and that is what I like about her."

Chahat, however, feigns ignorance about her new-found boyfriend. She says, "I am surprised to hear this news. We hardly know each other. This is really funny as I only exchange greetings with him on the sets."
