Rahe Na Rahe on its way

Looks like it's pouring soaps! Production house Twenty Twenty is busy readying it's next mega project tentatively titled Rahe Na Rahe. The family drama which was earlier named as Dus Bahane Karke le gaye Dil is expected to hit the television tube in early October. According to sources, the show might replace Aisa Des hai Mera on Sony TV.

Tellychakkar.com's source reveals that Rahe Na Rahe is a family drama about three brothers but with a modern outlook. Sachin Verma, Kushal Punjabi and Apoorva Agnihotri are the three brothers. The other cast includes Surveen Chawla, Kavita Kaushik, Salil Acharya (B4U Vj) and Nimai Bali (CID Special Squad), Veteran actor Rati Agnihotri has been approached to be a part of this mega serial. This will be her first venture into the world of television.

The story begins with Rati Agnihotri not being able to conceive inspite of being married for a long time, so she persuades her husband to get married once again. Of the three brothers Apoorva will play the role of the youngest and the biological child of Rati. Surveen Chawla plays the love interest of Apoorva and is believed to be essaying a very vivacious and a bubbly character but will meet with sudden death as she is shown suffering from cancer.

Kavita Kaushik plays Kushal Punjabi's wife. She is too excited of being part of such a mega soap. " I am yet to begin with the shooting, so I cannot say much about the show. The only thing that I can divulge is that it's a typical relationship based serial with all the melodrama involved," says a visibly excited Kavita. Nimai Bali will render the evil angle, he creates problem in the happy life of these three brothers.

While Salil Acharya did not reveal anything. He says, " It's a great concept which has not been experimented as such on television. My character has shades of grey that is the primary reason that I opted to play the role. I not only found the script absolutely fabulous but also the manner of work done by the production house impressed me greatly."

On contacting the production house was reluctant to reveal anything in detail about the show.

Sony to launch 'Kaajjal' on 9 Oct; 'Bigg Boss' coming mid-November

By BIJOY A K
Indiantelevision.com Team

(27 September 2006 5:30 am)

MUMBAI: The channel may have dropped out of the ratings reckoning, but Sony Entertainment India is now making its best efforts to make a comeback.

Sony will unleash its big ticket soap Kaajjal, produced by K Sera Sera's Twenty Twenty TV, on 9 October, whereas the much-awaited Bigg Boss, the Indianised version of Big Brother, is targeting a mid-November launch.
"We are planning to launch Kaajjal, a daily soap, on 9 October. The schedule and slot details for this soap are yet to be finalised," Sony COO NP Singh tells indiantelevision.com, while not revealing his plans for Bigg Boss.

However, market sources inform that Bigg Boss will hit the airwaves by mid-November - immediately after the Champions Trophy gets over. "Bigg Boss will be a prime time show, running Monday through Friday. The show will feature about 15 celebrities and the participants will include Bollywood stars, cricketers and politicians. Bigg Boss will get over by January 2007," says a source.

According to Singh, Sony will kick off the Bigg Boss promotions by the second week of October. "The on-air promotions are already on. Now we will be looking at outdoors and the other media platforms in a big way for the second phase of the campaign," he says.

The Indian version of Bigg Brother will be Sony's fourth Endemol acquisition after Indian Idol, Fame Gurukul and Fear Factor India. Reportedly, Big Brother contributes to over 25 per cent of the format owner Endemol's revenues internationally.

The Big Brother (Bigg Boss) format requires 10 - 15 contestants living in a house rigged with cameras recording every moment of their lives. The contestants are deprived of contact with the outside world except those allowed by the editorial team. Every week there are tasks to perform, which test their community spirit and team-work. Throughout the series, the contestants are required to nominate two of their number to be voted out of the house.

Bigg Boss acquires a crucial place in Sony's gameplan for the coming days as nearest rivals Star and Zee have also unveiled big projects to sustain their performance. Star Plus has launched Betiyaan apni yaa…Paraaya Dhan pre-Diwali to boost its 8 pm slot. Zee has launched its mega soap project Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann for the crucial 10 pm slot and has Antakshari and Cine Star Ki Khoj coming up next in the pipeline.

Star One is gunning for huge jump in channel shares with Nach Baliye 2, the celebrity dance show that propelled the channel's performance in 2005. Countering the Star property is Sony's Jhalak Dikhla Ja, the Indian adaptation of the ABC reality show Dancing with the Stars.

For the time being, Sony's gameplan has a lot to do with these well acclaimed international formats. It remains to be seen, whether these international properties will be able to drive Sony to a position of strength in the coming days.

Ekta falls out with Sony?

Allegedly, Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai will be the last Balaji serial for the channel

Ranjib Mazumder

The day Kaajjal Sabbki Ankhon Mein Basi replaces Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai on Sony, the channel will not have any Balaji show on air. If the grapevine is to be believed, Balaji Telefilms is no longer interested in working with the channel. For the uninitiated, there was a Sony event a few months back, and no one from Balaji attended it.

When contacted, Sandiip Sikcand, chief creative director of Sony, said, "As Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai is coming to an end, we have asked Balaji to come up with a new show. But they've told us that they are not yet ready with another show to replace Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai for the 8 pm time slot. They are busy with other shows on different channels. Ekta probably doesn't have the time to focus on a show for Sony. We had to move on. So Kaajjal… will go on air on October 9. At the same time, we've heard that Sab TV has been approached by Balaji for a new show. I can't speak for Sab, but it's ironical that Balaji has a show for Sab and not for Sony."

Sikcand was with Balaji Telefilms for four years before he joined Sony. Is there any hidden tussle going on between the Sony and Balaji camps? "As Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai was not registering good TRPs, it's better to end the show. Moreover, the serial is coming to a logical conclusion and there's no point in dragging the story further. From Sony's side, there is absolutely no problem. If Balaji comes up with any new show, we will definitely consider it," says Sikcand.

When it was launched, Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai was popular among viewers. Can Kaajjal… create the same magic? "Kaajjal… has a good storyline and I am sure it will be as popular as Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai was in its initial days," Sikcand says.

When contacted, Tanushree Dasgupta, associate creative director, Balaji Telefilms said, "Everyone knew that Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai is coming to an end. But, we don't have any other show to replace it on Sony as we are already caught up with so many serials on other channels."

Priya Mishra, programming head of Sab TV, confirmed the news that the channel has been approached by Balaji for a slot. He said, "Yes, we have been approached by Balaji Telefilms for a slot. However, we've just had a talk, nothing has been finalised yet. We are yet to have a formal meeting with them."

Kaajjal finds love but...
SHOWBUZZ NETWORK | Friday, September 29, 2006 13:51:47 IST

..in the most unexpected form. To find out how tune into Sony on Oct 9

Its raining new shows and the latest to join the bandwagon is Sony's Kaajjal - Sabbki Aankhon Mein Basi. Set in the picturesque town of Mussourie, the simple fairytale love story is about Kaajjal, a radio jockey, who lives with her doting father and caring aunt.
Like the proverbial rooster, she wakes the township with her popular morning radio show. Everybody in this scenic township simply loves this spirited, adorable young girl. As you follow Kaajjal's journey, a poignant love story unfolds... Kaajjal dreams about her knight in shinning armour... and she finds love…but in the most unexpected form.
Dev is the debonair scion of a business empire. He has a dark past, which has made him bitter, a recluse and a loner. He is unapproachable, unsocial and comes across as being arrogant.
There comes a time when Kaajjal and Dev, who are constantly picking on each other, decide never to cross each other's path. Yet destiny wills otherwise.
The star cast of Kaajjal - Sabbki Aankhon Mein Basi include Rati Agnihotri, Rita Bahaduri, Rohit Bakshi, Apoorva Agnihotri and Surveen Chawla (as Kaajjal) in lead roles. The show starts on October 9, and will air every Monday to Thursday at 8.00 p.m.

The great Indian smuggling show
By: Shaheen Parkar
October 4, 2006

Ekta Kapoor
Several Balaji stars (former flames and current blue-eyed-boys and girls) have been spotted doing the rounds of the Sony office. In recent times, big stars like Smriti Z Iraani, Aamna Shariff and Anuj Saxena have been seen in the channel's Malad office.

What makes this development interesting is the fact that ever since Sandiip Sikcand (who was Balaji's creative head for shows like Kasamh Se and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii) joined Sony as its chief creative director, there has been a degree of awkwardness between Balaji and Sony.

No covert reason

Sandiip Sikcand
Interestingly, actors who had issues with Kapoor or hardcore Balaji actors who are looking at prospects beyond Balaji seem to have found comfort in Sikcand and Sony. "All these actors have been calling or meeting Sikcand to put forward their case," says a source.

So is Sikcand poaching Balaji's stars? "Absolutely not," says Sikcand. "Let me make this clear that I am not at Sony to poach Balaji actors. I have been with Balaji for four years and know these people in my personal capacity as well. If I meet them, it does not amount to poaching. An actor or producer can approach anyone."

Sandiip says there's no covert reason why Smriti, Aamna and Anuj came to see him. "Smriti is now not only an actress, but also a producer. She came here and we discussed some matters," he says.

As for his encounter with Aamna, Sikcand says, "I've known her even before she began acting in Kahiin ... She is a friend and she dropped in to congratulate me on my new appointment. There are several Balaji actors who I share a great rapport with. Chetan Hansraj is a friend. If he is seen with me, that does not mean I'm taking him away from Balaji!"

And as for Anuj, he says, "He runs his own production house, Maverick, and he comes to Sony in his capacity as a producer."

Mad about moving

Interestingly, the Sony-Balaji imbroglio now becomes heightened as Balaji's only drama on the channel, Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai, wraps up this week. Sony will then be the only channel without a Balaji show.

The new incumbent in Kaisa's time slot is Kaajjal (produced by K Sera Sera's Twenty Twenty) starring Surveen Chawla, Apoorva Agnihotri and Rati Agnihotri. The channel is touting this fairytale romance as its big ticket.

Balaji czarina Ekta Kapoor believes that no one is indispensable. But even though her shows go on as actors and creative heads come and go, Sikcand's departure to Sony has irked Balaji. Both Kapoor and Sikcand are not spelling out exactly what prompted the latter to quit Balaji.

Says Kapoor, "At the moment, I'm not doing any show for Sony and Star as I want to try different channels and also new kinds of programming (like for kids) for which there is no scope on Sony and Star." But it is learnt that Kapoor is peeved with Sikcand and his doings. Says a Balaji source, "Ekta is furious with Sandeep and his doings."

Deal is inked!

Smriti Irani has just signed a deal with Sony for a new show. The concept and story is being worked on and Smriti will act in and produce the show.

This will be the first time that she will be doing a non-Balaji show.

Smriti Z Iraani: Came as a producer to discuss certain matters

Anuj Saxena: Came as a producer to discuss his new show on the channel. Also for an acting offer for a new show on Sony
Aamna Shariff: Dropped in to say congratulations to Sandiip on his new assignment

Why is fame eluding Rohit Bakshi?

We recently spotted actor Rohit Bakshi the actor at a suburban multiplex catching Woh Lamhe with his girlfriend when a thought struck us. He has been a known name in the TV circles since quite some time and is career profile boasts of many Balaji soaps like Kahiin To Hoga, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hain. Inspite of being featured in such TRP rakers wonder why Rohit couldn't hog the limelight like some of his colleagues?

Well, maybe the game is all about being seen around at the right places at the right time, or is it about being more media savvy. Currently Rohit has Balaji's Karam Apna Apna and Sony's Kaajjal Sabbki Aankhon Mein Basi in his kitty. Let's hope that this time around Rohit does get his due!

The return of Armaan Sir
For those missing Armaan Sir of Jassi (aka Apoorva Agnihotri), the wait will soon be over. Apoorva is all set to rock the small screen again with his new serial, Kajaal. Paired opposite the pretty Surveen Chawla, he plays the role of Dev Karan Singh, a rich, spoiled brat with a very sad history. "Armaan Sir was a larger than life character and I received a number of offers, but this appealed to me most because it is so realistic," the actor says. But why such a long break? An extended honeymoon? "I needed a big break. You can't imagine what a tough time I had during Jassi," says the chocolate hero.
