Jodha Akbar: Will Jodha Begum Surpass Ruqaiya Begum?

Mar 10, 2014

It is a well known fact that Ruqaiya Begum was a senior and very high ranked figure in the royal Mughal Emperor, starting from Akbar's tenure till she became old, after which Jahangir's wife Nur Jahan came into picture.

During this period, none of the other Begum was given the privilege which she enjoyed. No wonder, Ruqaiya Begum was always considered more than any other Begum of Akbar as she herself was a Timurid princess and so superior by birth with respect to all the other Begums in the royal harem.

Ruqaiya Begum Jodha Jodha Akbar: Will Jodha Begum Surpass Ruqaiya Begum?

So, if she was so special and superior, why would the responsibilities come under any other Begum of Akbar, let alone a Rajput wife! Besides, weren't Ruqaiya and Akbar childhoods, lovers and couple? Then why would Akbar neglect Ruqaiya and fall on head over heels behind the young Rajput princess who had no important place and status as that of Ruqaiya Begum.

In the serial, Jalal aka Akbar is shown falling in love with Jodha Begum so badly that he always listens to her especially with emotional topic and sensitive subjects. For instance in today's episode (10th March 2014) we saw Jodha insisting Akbar to come along with her so that she can show how the Mughal servants are suffering from years.

Now, we all know that Akbar was a kind and noble person but does that mean he would become all that sensitive by seeing the servants suffering in the royal harem?

Excuse me if I'm wrong but can please someone tell me, "Was Akbar so sentimental that when he saw servants facing some problem, he went right ahead to change the imperial Harem laws just to accommodate them on the request of Jodha Begum?" Isn't the episode beyond the shaan of the Shehenshah?

I could not connect to today's episode it looked fake and forced...simple answer is jodha akbar sells and akbar rukkya doesn't...I m not liking the idea of the royal queen and first wife of akbar getting such treatment! If we dig history everyone has their own views, depends on which character we like and how far we can dig that character from the pages written 400 plus years ago!

Thanx for sharing Aanchal.

Because after somedays Wikipedia will copy from here and some newspapers as well..and this will become history.. I will think of responding now...lol..enough drama..!..

Btw, i do NOT know which power and influence of Ruqayya Begum is this author talking about.!.

One of the old articles of this same websites propounded the clause of Ruqs being the favorite one and Akbar saying that Akbar said he would not have married again after Ruqs. Rofl..!..

Another article said Jodha NEVER walked out of Agra throughout her life.

Another one said she never went to Amer after marriage..

Accha hua u shared here..!..
Pata nahi what is the issue against her..!. 😆

Joja,

I thank for showing such a belief. Just one thing i would like to mention here. In ALMOST ALL my posts i have mentioned one thing constantly and that is Internet and its stories degrading MUZ vis a vis Ruqayya Begum. If you search yourself you will get to know what all responsibilities etc. Were bestowed to Jodha like Haj Travel, Managing pilgrims, promoting education, public welfare works, etc.
She got a well constructed for 20,000 rupees in those times. You can understand the value of this amount450 years back. This i am telling only to say that she was involved in public welfare works also..!.

Search any contemporary account. You will get the info on her.

Also, if you have missed then go to my part 5 thread of Nausenas. On the last currently last page, a member has uploaded a link of a research paper from the archives of a reputed university. There the author has given the contributions and importance of Mughal ladies right from Babur to Aurangzeb.

In that paper ALSO, you get names of only MUZ and Salima Begum. But not Ruqayya Begum. Just check it. Also, it is nicely referenced.

The problem i see is why dont these authors on Internet who talk highly of Ruqayya Begum to demean MUZ, don't give any reference...!..??..

Btw, even if they give references they are also wrong. Example. In an old article one website mentioned Ruqayya Begum to be Padshah Begum. Reference was Jahangirnama. But there was no such thing there when i searched it.

Now whenever i come across Net articles i understand how they are written and why..?.. :p

Also, If Ruqayya gained clout that was during Nur Jahan's time.!.

Finally, i do not understand, what these people get writing all these stories..?.. ROFL...!.
Anyways, you can also search and understand what all rubbish these people write on digital media. Such is the power of digital media that it can so nicely distort anything..!.. 😊

Edit: Adding a point here.
Just wrote these points to negate some points on the articles on the website not for serious comparison of sorts. This was written wrt to the random website articles only. 😊
