OS : You are my Strength.
Darkness played its part. It surrounded his palace, his room and his life. Sitting at the corner of his room, he shed tears. The broken pieces of the vase, the cushions, his dreams, everything was scattered on the floor. He is the mightiest of them all but he felt so powerless.
'I am to be blamed for all her pain,' his lips shivered while uttering those words. He was lost. He kept staring at the strewn pieces of the vase like as if it was his own heart. The moment when he witnessed her face going lifeless after hearing the dreadful news was still playing in his eyes. He blamed no one but himself. He always took the responsibility of everything that happens to her. He took himself as the reason behind her every smile, her every tear. This time was no exception; he blamed himself for hurting her. The recollection of the events that took place, made him angrier. He clenched his fist and closed his eyes. Even though his eyes were tightly closed, his tears didn't stop. A tear or two made their way from his eyes to his lips; he could taste the saltiness of his tears. 'I deserve to cry. How can I let this happen to her? I should've been more cautious,' he thought.
Darkness never spared anyone not even his friend; she knew how it feels to go through the pain of losing someone, dear to you. So, there she sat next to his beloved hoping that now she'd say something. And she did. After hour of lying there on her bed motionless, she finally spoke.
'Where is he?' she asked, slightly moving her face towards his/her friend.
The friend struggled in finding the answer for her question. She knew that Jodha right now needs no one but Jalal. She held Jodha's hand and said He is not here; it was too much for him to see you like this. So, he left.'
'I need to see him,'
'No Jodha, you are in a lot of pain,'
'I don't care, Ruqaiya. I need to see him right now.'
Ruqaiya wanted to read her expressions to know what exactly she felt about the little piece of information she just gave to her but she couldn't as Jodha carried a straight face throughout.
'I won't let you; you are very much in pain. Once you are alright, I will take you to him.'
Jodha nodded her head in disbelief. She was in no mood to be reasonable. She wanted to meet him, to be with him because she knew how much they both need each other right now.
...
After few hours, when Ruqaiya left to have some fresh air, Jodha knew this was her one and only chance to meet Jalal. So she hurriedly tried to stand up but the pain was too much to bear, she sat down on the bed and clutched the bed sheet. She took a deep breath and recollected all of her energy and slowly stood up. She started walking towards Jalal's room, the pain was still there but it was bearable.
She entered his room and noticed the critical condition of it and his. She spotted him still sitting on that very corner of the room, with his head down. She walked to him and ran her fingers through his hair. He sensed that it was her; no one touches his hair as gently as she does. By not getting any response, Jodha went further and sat beside him. He looked up but didn't move his face towards her side. He said in a low voice, You shouldn't be here, you are still not well.'
'I don't care. I wanted to meet you,' said Jodha.
'I know you are mad at me, I know you are angry with me for not being there for you.' He choked. She looked at his face; his eyes were glittering with tears, his lips were still shivering. She put her head on his shoulder and said with teary eyes, 'I am not mad. I understand why you left; you just couldn't see me in pain.'
'I saw your face becoming pale after hearing the news and it was too much for me to bear. So, I left. I couldn't bring myself to meet you. I guess I am not strong enough.'
'You are the strongest person I know, Jalal. After constant heart breaks, you are still here, fighting for happiness. If that is not what we call strong then i don't know what it is.'
Her words didn't have any impact on him. He was at the verge of breaking. Their conversation was followed by a strange silence between them. Jalal gathered his courage and finally looked at her, 'I am sorry,' he said with a cracking tone.
'For what?' she looked at him with a confused brow
'For being in your life, for causing you all the pain, for everything,'
Jodha removed her hands from his arm and cupped his face and said 'Don't say that, Jalal.'
'Ever since I came in your life, your life has become a hell ride. You were always loved, pampered and your paths were always filled with roses in Amer. You were always happy... But then I brought you to Agra where your paths are always filled with thorns, where many hate you for being who you are... I always used to think that I'm not blessed to be loved by someone but then you came. You loved me; you cared about me like no one else and see what I did to you. It's only because of me that our twins are no more in this world...I...'
All in sudden, Jodha covered his mouth with her hand and stopped him. Tears started rolling down from her eyes. She couldn't believe that he is blaming himself. She wanted to shout at him for even thinking about that but couldn't do so.
'You are not...you are not to be blamed Jalal,' she choked while uttering each word.
'But Jodha I should have been more cautious...I should have taken special measures for your safety...for our twins's safety but I didn't...'
'No, I will not let you do this. I will not let you blame yourself. I will not let you regret us... You are right, my life in Amer was filled with happiness and I never faced any problem but still there was this part of me which was hollow. And it was filled only by you. You completed me. You loved me. You taught me how to be strong at the time when everyone wants you to be weak. Everyone hates me here for who I am but you never did. You never hated me, even when you proclaimed. You were always by my side even when my behavior was cold towards you. You love me for who I am and I love you for who you are. And that will never change... Believe me, whatever happened to us happened because it was written in our destiny not because you weren't cautious enough or I wasn't cautious enough, I know we were. Whoever did this to us, will pay.' Her tears won't stop. It was already heart- wrecking for her to meet the loss of her babies, there was no way she was going to let him have the burden of something which he didn't commit.
'Jodha...'
'Stop it Jalal,'
Jodha cut the conversation right there. She didn't want to talk anymore. She embraced him in her arms; she knew that she needed to be strong so that he won't break. As once he breaks, she will also break.
'His desire of being a father is always snatched away from him. It was cruel of God to hurt him like this. He didn't deserve it, I didn't deserve it. No one deserves to be hurt this way.' She thought. Tears were endless in their eyes. Jalal tighten his grip around her, never wanting to let her go. He gently kissed her forehead. Jodha was trying to put a brave face but she couldn't, every time she tried to stop her tears, they came out of her eyes like ocean. She wanted to ask him whether he held them or not for the first and last time? Whether they had any resemblance of her or him? Did they have her eyes and his nose as they thought. But she couldn't.Just couldn't.
She never got the chance to hold her babies, this very thought of her was killing her inside. It felt as if someone was stabbing her right in her heart, again and again, deep and deep. She held Jalal even more badly. He always embrace her whenever she is in pain and it always worked. She find herself the safest in his arms and in his embrace, her pain always lessen. This time also, Jalal did which he always do, he embraced her. He let her cry her heart out in his arms. He didn't wipe off her tears, he just made sure he was holding her close enough to not let her feel alone. He made sure he won't leave her again. He made sure he won't let her to be on her own again, which he did few hours ago. He only wanted to be here with her and for her. After all, he was her only strength and she was his.
By being close to each other's heart, by being able to feel the warmth of their skin, they became strong enough to let their eyes be tearless and to find sleep in each other's arms.
The End.😳
