I am personally glad he chose honesty yesterday, because he had to show Ruq at some point that she cannot be assuming he was her "property" and he should only be loyal to her and her gifts and her wishes and her needs of him. She needed a reality-check, which he gave her inadvertently, so that was a good thing from one angle.
The principle of being diplomatic is good overall, but so difficult to live up to!

NO Mansi, I don't agree with you on this honesty part. True even I am happy thet he realised that Jodha's gift ws the best for a king and at the same time Ruqaiya had given him the standard outfit which fits to his caliber of a Badshah. to compare and distingush the value of the gift was like comparing the love of ones mom & wife. A man can be loved both his wife and mom together immensly but the same can't be compared publicly and exclaim, all along I was under the impression my mom's love a great and now I know my wifes love outbeats my mom's love. NOWAy that can be done or comparable as both are at different wave length. If one is in FM, the other will be @ RM.
However happy I may be for Jodha, but I feeling sad for Ruqaiay the more. It was an open insult to her as he mearcilessly told the crowd that earlier he had said that no gift can equal to Ruqaiya's gift but Jodha's turned out to be the best. rather he ould have said, he was wrong in that statement as Jodha's gift proved that there is an equal. Added to that he invited Jodha to sit next to him while that place was for the chief Begum on all occasins except for few where the other Begum is the reason for celebration.
If I were in her position, I swear, I would have felt the same pang if not more. Though I mioght ot have broken anything out of rage, for sure I would ahve locked myself in some room till I till shed all my grief.
True, one has to be honest but your honesty should not hurt others. There is a saying" Sathyam bruyath, priyam bruyath, na bruyath sathyam apriyam" means, tell the truth, tell the happy news but never tell teh thruth which migt cause hurt and unhappiness".
he could have spared his vocal appreciation of Jodha's gift by degrading Ruqaiya's. When he could not comment anything about his mother's gift, Salima Sultan's gift, what was the necessit to comment on these 2 ladies's gifts?. Does that mean teh taveez which was given by Hamida is less important than the golden outfit or the love of his praja. NO, so why to be too expressive when it was not required.
Ok on a lighter note, how come Jalal was left alone on his birthday night? 😉 Despite having a full harem, the poor guy was sitting alone and thinking. Did all his begums thought only to make his day best one and forgot about his night altogether?😕😕😕 If this is the importance his wives give to his nighs, there is no wonder why he was adding additional ladies to the harem every now and then and even tought of Daasi's at times😆😆😆
btw did you know that he had an Harem full of 5000 ladies / wives (both offical and unofficial put together) and yet had only few kids of his own😊

nice write up mansi,👏 and as you said somewhere that ruqu's gift was all about ego massaging where Jo's gift was all about acknowledging him about his duties as a king, and I am happy that he chose to be a commoners' king by winning their heart and not by fear..
Y'days epi was very very good, Jalal was so honest yet masterly with ruqu, loved the part but loved more the soul talk and JJ part, the love is at it's purest form, no touchy-feely scene, yet, their was flowing a undercurrent of something b/w JJ which is more than a friendship, but both can't understand it till now..

sometime I feel bad for ruku, because when Jalal praises Jodha, a fear of losing jalal to jodha reflects on her eyes, and it's very clear.

He unnecessarily infuriated ruku, by comparing the gifts, I afraid that she doesn't harm Jo, and would never like that ruku reduced to a ordinary serial type vamp,.

not in a mood to talk about adham..🤢

he does not have any interest in Rukku or other begums...the one in which he is interested has no interest in him...so the poor guy was sitting alone😆

Hi Mansi, (saw others addressing u so I thought I too will address u the same. I am Roshini..hi)

Great analysis. I have been reading your writings for about a week now and I should say I started seeing Jodha Akbar a couple of days ago and your beautiful writing motivated me to see it. It is not that I had anything particularly against the series or actors but I hate Ms. Ekta maayi's creations and her polygamy ideas...

This series presently seems to be very good. Especially yesterday was simply superb...To me Akbar is kind of boyish man...the way he is so so loving towards the people close him makes him look a little kiddish and the way he handles his duties as an emperor makes him look a rock solid man. Rajat is doing a great job indeed.

I love Jodha and Ruqq both...both the actresses are do full justice to their roles. Since I have not seen the earlier episodes, I really don't know who salima is and the little rahim is????if u r free please do tell me.

Jaya, I don't disagree with the points you have made. The very bad part for Ruq was that he first said her gift was unbeatable and then he did complete U-turn - it must have hurt her badly.
But in a strange way Ruq had it coming. We cannot say Jalal was right for being honest (though I personally appreciate the honesty) but from the point of view of Ruq, the harshness in the situation was 50% because of his ruthless honesty ... and 50% because of her own ghamand making it unbearable for her!
I am just thinking: let's assume she was a person with Salima's character ... would Salima take it so badly if jala first said her gift was good and then later said Jodha's gift was even better? I doubt it! Salima would have probably agreed with Jalal that yes, I did try to give you a gift, but I admit that the better gift won! Its all a question of how much Salima is vested in wanting to be the supremo in Jalal'ss life. If someone wants to be the whole and sole friend of someone then that ambition itself makes them unable to be philosophical in defeat!
I don't think Jalal would have felt that he was hurting Ruq. he may have expected the salima kkind of mature response? But later on reflection he too must have realised that Ruq would take it badly, and not be like Salima. So he may have decided to go and meet ruq and talk to her as he did.
Even if we say "Salima was not jalal's childhood friend as much as Ruq was, so its natural for Ruq to have such an upset reaction", still I would say:
"Being a close childhood friend does not bind someone to always say your gift was the best, or to have to soft-pedal the truth if another gift was better."
Jalal could have been less blunt, but Ruq should also have been graceful enough to accept that the better gift won! This is where the question of character comes in! Its easy to be graceful in good times, but "grace under fire" or "grace in defeat" shows calibre. Whatever Jalal did or did not do, it was an opportunity for Ruq to show "grace under defeat" and elevate her own standing by the quality of her response. She failed to use this opportunity!
