Started reading this!!!!! I must say I am really happy that these kind of topics are discussed and there are people like you who take interest in it!

...Been a student of History in graduation... but more than that had always been and am an ardent student to learn from wherever and its heartening to read such wonderful discussions!

I do not frequent the forum... But just chanced upon this thread as I started watching Jodha Akbar for ( Believe it or not) screen play!

Was just checking and started to read this thread! Wonderful and my appreciation and congratulations to you on this swell job!

I must admit it would take ages for me to go through every page( Being a keen researcher on such things...Although I work actually on fancy projects...lol!!!) but still I just thought I should thank you for this commendable work!

i am appreciating ur research in mughal history on MUZ. bt i hav one doubt that i consider u can solve...that is 1 -- as u r saying farmans are the exclusive prievilage of fast ladies in harem during mughal era as MUZ hav...bt according to mughal history ruk has given the title padshah begum which was generally bestowed upon 1st lady of the harem and also sultanate which also given to nurjahan,,jahanara begum.too.then that means ruk has also power of 1st lady????? 🤔 2--what was the relation shared between ruk and MUZ. 3--what was ruk's position in in mughal sultanate and what was her powers? 4--Was she more powerful than MUZ?????

first of all, welcome to IF!

Now to your questions:

1. According to mughal history, Ruq was never the padshah begum. Where did you come across this piece of info? Don't say the internet. 🤢 Internet is very unreliable. Only refer to actual historical books and chronicles was true historical account. Also, never rely on historical fiction books as a source for historical facts.

2. Ruq and MUZ shared friendly relations. 😊

3. Ruq was a high-ranking lady in imperial harem but never had the power to issue farmans. As the first wife of Akbar and a timurid princess, she did own palaces outside of Agra (made by her) and was influential in court.

4. MUZ was THE most powerful woman in Akbar's era. As powerful as Nur Jehan and some debate, even more 😉.

She was one of the only four members of the court (another was the emperor) and the only woman to have the rank of 12,000 cavalry and was known to receive a jewel from every nobleman according to his estate each year on the occasion of New Year's festival.

Like only a few other women at the Mughal court, Mariam-uz-Zamani was granted the right to issue official documents (singularly called farman), usually the exclusive privilege of the emperor.

Issuing of such orders was confined to the highest ladies of the haremsuch as Hamida Banu Begum , Mariam-uz-Zamani,Nur Jehan, Mumtaz Mahal, Nadira Banu and Jahanara begum. Mariam Zamani, like Nur Jehan, used her wealth and influence to build gardens, wells, and mosques around the countryside.

Ruq didn't compare to her. Powerful she was but not in front of MUZ.

You will get to know in detail about the padshah begums 😊

2. It has not been explicitly written anywhere that who was Akbar's favorite spouse. It is always mentioned that he had 3 chief queens (Ruqu, Salima, MUZ) but never that who was his most favored of three.

If you ask me, Jodha/MUZ was his most beloved and the first lady of harem.

The reason I am saying this is because, no other begum in Akbar's era had as much power/clout as the MUZ. Given she was the mother of Jahangir but even Jagat Gosain (mother of Shah Jahan) gave birth to heir apparent and she wasn't half as powerful.

MUZ's power and influence was as much as, probably even more than, Nur Jehan's . Everybody knows Nur was Jahangir's favorite that is why she had so much clout, despite being his 20th wife and a widow. So, from this what can we conclude about MUZ and Akbar?? 😉

1-----dat mean ur saying that nur jahan had not the rank of 12,000 cavalary?????even not of shahjahan's beloved mumtaz mahal????? 2-------bt it was said that because nurjahan was the lady in waiting for rukaiya she favored and loved her more than MUZ and also in internet sites it has said that salim loved ruku more than her mother. Is it true????? 3-------1 most important ques i request u to clear the doubt that which what exclusive power which padshah begum enjoys not even the mother queen?Is there any kind power exists???? 4-----------although MUZ had not the title padshah begum bt had she given any power that enjoyed by padshah begum which she was given by emperor as his most favored begum??????
