But right now, what I do not want is any more Govinda take offs or worse, Riteish Deshmukh take offs.
The choice should not be between Virginia Woolf and these gentlemen. Plus Jalal's sudden switch of persona, not to speak of tactics, was odd, to say the least, and if it worked that was because there was a corresponding and equally sudden switch in Jodha as well. The Jodha of even 2 days ago would never have gone along with all that heavy breathing so easily, and in fact seemed to be enjoying it!
I do hope that having written superb scenes like those in Ajmer and the Kali mandir in the past, the CVs now think of something better for the rest of their progression to romance, otherwise we will end up with kurta phad ke, khatiya tod ke and other such dubious gags that properly belong in Comedy Circus and not in Jodha Akbar.
As someone had suggested in my thread, Jodha could have had a follow up meeting with Jalal when he was feeding Hawai that ark. Just think of what a lovely, heartwarming scene could have been written that way, which could have wiped out all the harshness of the earlier encounter. Both of them could have been shown reassuring and petting Hawai, who could have been shown taking to Jodha instantly, as a rare exception to his usual wariness of strangers
To my mind, what yesterday's scene showed is the yoyo tendency among the script writers, leading to a total inconsistency of characterisation for both Jalal and, even more so, for Jodha.
The scene the day before was very unpleasant, but it was in a way mature in its very off putting harshness, like something out of Who is afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Yesterday was the two of them doing a Govinda-Karishma Kapoor impersonation.
I was more startled than anything else to see Rajat do a Govinda without any warning, and I, frankly, as an old fuddy duddy of GenPrevious, who feels awkward with double entendres and the like,
did not like it. It could easily have been scripted sensually instead of like a version of sarkaiyo khatiya jaada lage!
I never watched IPKKND but the odd episode, but I can visualise how Arnav Singh Raizada would have wooed a reluctant bride. Not like this, I am sure. Rajat should have been grateful that his dress probably prevented the CVs from demanding that he go whole hog with the Govinda act and do pelvic thrusts as well, horror of horrors!😉
It was not vulgar, and really it was quite funny, but I would definitely have preferred more intelligent if even more aggressive sensuality. And of course Rajat was marvellous, but what is new there? The boy is a perennial source of wonderment to me.
What I DID like, and which came to me as a profound relief, is that Jalal did not turn into a lovesick poodle, as I had feared, nor did they make him do a Salman Khan in HAHK , with a dupatta over his shahi pagdi! Yes, yes, I know that would never have been an option, but given the shock that Jodha gave me the day before, I have become profoundly distrustful of even these CVs, generally far superior to the run of the mill lot at Balaji.
I was very happy that Jalal was dominating, unsettling, and even,as Vicki put it so well last night, predatory. Anything, even this Govinda act, is better than Jalal as a doormat to be walked over.
This said, the total lack of consistency in Jodha's characterisation is bewildering. Watch her in the kahin bhi jaake mariye, par hamare Amer mein nahin scene, lecturing him on her life and his, and look at her yesterday!
They have obviously never heard of either progressive track development or of intelligent romance. It has to be the icebox or the khatiya, it seems, nothing in between. Alas for my hopes of a Jalal-Jodha between whom there is mutual caring and affection developing, slowly but surely...an edgy friendship morphing, insensibly, into love, with all its yearnings, its restlessness in the absence of the loved one, the misunderstandings, the jealousies, the protectiveness and the possessiveness, and beneath it all, the undercurrent of a hidden sensuality.
I suppose I should be grateful if Ekta does not decide to graduate from the Govinda template and borrow scenes from her contemporary horror shows like Kya kool hai hum in future episodes!

HE IS BEING THE MAN!😛I'm certain that those who'd read my posts would know more than anything else how much I'd hate for Jalal to lose his attitude and authority. I never wanted him to become a Majnu ...NEVER...I always wanted him to remain in authority 'THE MAN' as we call it. I'd become very very disappointed when he cared to go ahead and watch her dance after all that she'd humiliated him with under the weight of his Pagdi! However, what I realized was that in his own way - he was being THE MAN! Obviously, he wouldn't take this nonsense from anyone else - he is doing so only from her - because he knows how best to give it back to her too!Shouting and commanding her hasn't worked and he doesn't want to raise an upheaval in her Maika - so, he's doing it another way! Therefore the first part of the episode still stood disjointed and was NOT something that I enjoyed. At the end of it all, it now seems like this was the only way he could get back at his Begum and shut her incessant taunts - punish her for all that she was doing to him ever since they left for Amer.Every thing she's been doing to him in the past few days, he's avenged in his own way - we only need to shed our conservative caps for it since the CVs seem to have taken on a Ranbir/SRK route rather than an Amir Khan route!1) She's been giving him below the belt comments and taunts for a while now and he did his share of below the belt comments and taunts yesterday to get back at her! No wonder it didn't look as classy as the scene in the movie where Jodha was happily eyeing her HR Jalal sword practising - it wasn't meant to be!2) After all that tirade and 'Oh no one loves you tsk tsk' nonsense from her on the day before, he blatantly goes on to ask her yesterday 'Jodha Begum, by any chance have you started falling in love with me?' Worst, she falters and doesn't even give him a proper answer!3) After all that 'We at AMER don't punish, only warn people unlike you at Agra na na na na na'He MAKES her punish him and makes her feel so sorry for having uttered any such statement in the first place4) She'd so callously told him that she 'pitied' his state & loneliness the previous episode - in this one, he reduced her to a thoroughly disconcerted queen when in his company - pitying her own state when he embarrassed her like none else ever had!5) When she calls him budhu, he makes her the budhu instead during the Kumkum episode6) When she refutes his story, he challenges her to narrate her own version7) When she states she wanted his head, he used wise debate and placed his head at Devi's padam!8) When she kept repeating that she had many reasons to hate him, he's nullified her stance by being on his best behaviour at Amer - compelling her family to keep chanting praises of him in her presence - thus cornering her (unwillingly) to accept her fault that she was holding on to her 'hatred' purely due to false pride. If you remember, her family have brought up the visit-to-the-temple topic thrice so far - Almost like they're telling her 'Jo wake up and smell the coffee!'9) Even if Jodha didn't acknowledge what Jalal went through while taming Hawai, Sukanya was gifted with a few lines to show us the viewers - that Jo is being reminded about it all!One can choose to see it in this manner and continue enjoying it till the flavour lasts or one can wish for the JA movie sort of platonic matured love and give up on the serial. Sadly, there's not much else to hop on to on Indian TV in parallel genre to keep us hooked either. Personally, I'll stick on to see how it unfolds - besides, the Ratanpur problem and MA scenes are both meaningful and just as enticing to me!
That he does...but his are more effective...😛 because they're calculated - not driven by ego
