My dear,

We are on the same page wrt most of this and I did not list all of your points only to spare my poor readers- at 3 3/4 pages, it was already way too long! But your list is splendidly comprehensive.

The only point I want to touch on is about Bairam Khan's volte face. This has been best explained earlier on this thread by charming genie, and you might like to look at my response to her above, where I have added my own comments. In life, there are some moments when the realisation of one's folly comes to one suddenly, out of the blue, and then everything seems completely different. It was like that with the Khan Baba, he had an epiphany.

It was because of this that Jalal too is able to revert to being his son, not his emperor, and NOT because of anything his Ammijaan said, as has been argued in the weekly analysis thread. He cares nothing for his mother, which is shown again when he rebuffs her attempt to console him after Bairam Khan leaves. There is no emotional connect at all, only the forced dutifulness of a son to his biological mother.

As for Jalal taking decisions by himself, if it was a question of waging war, he would, in an instant. But here it is a very difficult and thorny issue, concerning someone to whom he has been linked, as if by an umbilical cord, for all his life so far. Plus, as I wrote in this post. Jalal has a quality rare in kings, gratitude, and with Bairam Khan, he has a lot to be grateful for, so it is incredibly tough, deciding whether to crack down on him. If Jalal had had to fight him on the battlefield and had killed him, he would not have got over that for years, if ever. So no wonder he looks around for advice from those he thinks he can trust, for he cannot discuss this with his ministers.

This was exactly my face while watching the last two epis ...i mean what is going on ?????? Did anything make sense ????

1. I thought that air travel was the fastest means of transport but now i guess old is gold. Horses and palkis beat planes hands down. Jodha travels from amer to mathura n mathura to amer in two days with time to romance at inlaws place n do shopping in agra!!!!!

2. The hunting sequence - I always know women can handle many things at the same time but fixing a aim in a hunt and talking !!!! or was ruquaiya waiting for jodha to light up the fire ????

3. Jalal jodha merry go round the tree !!! i thought they were going to complete their saat pheras around the tree itself. And while these two were busy playing what was ruquaiya doing ??? wasnt she who said that she keeps track of each of jalals movements ??? then how did she forgot to see what was happening a few feet ahead ???

4. while jodha n bros were having a dip in the river where were the soldiers ??? They panicked easily when the tribals attacked, i wonder what are they going to do when the mughals attack ????

5. Shopping place indeed seemed like a fish market with all the hagglings. Motibai was wrong to bargain but wasnt the chunari seller too bold insulting a royal lady??? I am sure the seller must have seen so many attendants and soldiers around jodha to guess she is a royalty.

6. Cant an emperor take a decision by himself??? y is he easily swayed by all around him.???

7. how the hell did bairam khan did a 360 deg turn so suddenly. the one who was power hunger suddenly became a pashyatap dukhiyara and surrendered to jalal !!!!

8. Jalal shown does have a heart so y is it constantly said he is a jallad ??

9. when suryabhaan said it has become aur easier to defeat jalal i was like shut up !!! 😆😆ab yahi sunna baki tha hume lol

Well in all these bk and jalal last scene was praise worthy ...they handled it very beautifully. M glad jodha also didnt go into histronics while showing seller the worth of every girl in rajputana n dealing with ruquaiya. The new ruquaiya seems hard and haughty unlike the previous one who was also vulnerable. But i think ruquaiya is going to turn negative in future so this ruquaiya can do justice to the negative character. Ekta i guess doesnt believe in grey characters...they have to be black or white.

Thank you so much, Amy, and I am glad the length - 3 3/4 pages! - did not put you off!

Two points. One, that version, which has Akbar arranging for Bairam Khan to be bumped off en route to Mecca, is patently false, for he did not need to do any such thing. Historically, Bairam Khan is asked by Jalal to go on the pilgrimage to Mecca, but he stops halfway and starts a rebellion. He is defeated by the Mughal army contingent sent out to fight him. and brought back to Agra as a prisoner. Jalal again pardons him, whereas he could easily have been executed for high treason as a rebel. He is then again sent off on the pilgrimage, where he is murdered on the way by an Afghan enemy - he must have had any number of enemies.

So you see, Jalal did not need to adopt any such underhand means when he could have done the same thing openly and legally. It might very well have been Mahaam Anga who stirred up the Afghan and sent him out to finish off Bairam Khan, for she would have always been afraid of his coming back.

As for Jalal marrying Salima, he might have been worried about her being attacked by her dead husband's enemies, and he would not be able to protect her all the time if she was not in the palace.

In the film, the Khan Baba is Sharifuddin (?), the Revenue Minister (who was replaced, after he was murdered by Adham Khan, by Raja Todar Mal). This was perhaps because there the original Khan Baba disappeared very early on, as you have pointed out. It remains to be seen if they have the same defenstration scene, as in the film. for Adham Khan.

it was great to see the JAlal- Bairam khan encounter resolved without blood shed. somewere i had read that it was Jalal who forced Bairam khan on the trip to Mecca and then had him murdered. but i prefer this intepretation better. still th question remains why Jalal married khan baba's wife.. for her protection may be?
i kind of liked the new ruquiya for she looks more majestic.
About the hunting scene, wonder why jodha wasted time creating fire to distract the deer, when all it was needed was a pebble to be thrown😕

PS: If I am right bairam khan was off the screen very early in the movie so Jalal calling him Khan baba was confusing for he. the movie had another khan baba, a peaceful soul who was killed by Agham khan which led to the only ruthless action from akbar in the movie.. throwing down Agham Kahan from the terrace and dragging him up again to do the same to make sure he died.

My dear,

Thank you for lasting thru all these 3 3/4 pages and them actually liking it!😉

I too liked Jodha in the bazaar scene and the jaziya scene, though she is not a favourite of mine so far.She is clearly improving.

As for your last para, it is very perceptive. Life would of course have been so much easier for Jodha in Bhanpur, but after swimming thru that aag ka darya to get to the real Jalal, she will have something rarer and far more precious - what the (generally unromantic, contrary to popular perceptions about them!) French call le grand amour - the rare bond between two people who are halves of each other, and are whole only when they are together.

By then, she would have changed a great deal and matured, and would have learnt what it is to truly love and be loved. At least here, if not in history!😉

thank you for such a wonderful analysis ...and i do agree with you...about jodha and the entire rajput ladies ,the whole purdah system is alien...the face off with random soldiers ,speaking out in a men's court ...i can understand Ekta ka attempt to make her heroine sound and act courageous but there are other ways too without losing the regality...although i liked how she handled the scene both of them the chunari wala and the tax one without uttering too many empty words she acted on it ...

and about the new actress playing Ruqaiyya ,agreed she is a better actress but she is your out and out cunning vamp written all over her face and dialogues ...smiley even with her flaws was ur Ruqaiyya ...simple looks and intelligence shining through ,strong confident yet insecure and vulnerable,in love but cannot utter the word love ,fear of losing him to someone else hence her non stop need for assurance that she is his favorite, appeasing him ...i miss her and Ekta is going to turn this into her heroine vs vamp ...which was very evident from the face offs between her and jodha

my favourite scene was the last one BK and Jalal ,awesome scene and yes he has a heart which was in conflict with his mind and three woman toying with his dilemma...i am happy that he took a decision as an Emperor and Ruqaiyya was right ...but when he saw his khan baba standing before him in surrender his heart took over and it was such aheart felt moving scene...for one moment i forgot BK ka sins ,you could feel the father son bond right there...the hug with the grey sky in the BG was so symbolic like this was the final farewell...i cannot even fathom his reactions when he learns his khan baba has been killed...

Jodha will be the one who will let this heart rule rather than being suppressed under the dominance of the mind...

about the rajputs having a party over Jalal and BK war ,i feel pity and amusement at the same time and oh yes suryabhan with his sole aim in life to get Jalal ka head😆..if Jodha had not entered his life with her wish ...he would have been soo aimless😆 and the irony is when finally he will try to get Jalal ka head ..it will be Jodha herself protecting his head😆 enough the confuse the poor guy

Jodha will be thrown into this hell after her wedding ...she will have enemies and plots at every nook and corner...and on her own she will have to grow up and learn quickly the politics of the harem and the people surrounding her husband and then counteract on it ..she is going to have her hands full with this ,so no time to running around palaces and towns

as i had said in an earlier post ..the definition of love will change for both JA not just Jalal...Jodha will realize it is not ur bed of roses but aag ka dariya and u have to swim across ...the cool breeze of romance she had with suryabhan will be replaced by thunderstorm with Jalal ..this is not just Jalal's journey to become Akbar but Jodha's journey to become his Queen as well

Don't worry, my dear Priya, just read the posts and watch the episodes without fail, for no analysis, however thorough, can replace the visuals in this show. It is going to be great fun this week.

Dear Suvi,

I am glad you liked this long post, and I want to touch on only one of your comments below, for I agree with all the rest.

In the prison scene, Jalal is not swayed by his mother's pleas, even though he says in the end that he is letting them off (unless they are caught in a day within the Mughal borders) for his Ammijaan's sake. As I wrote in ,my Law of Gravity post on that episode, he does that because he is half afraid of the baddua making him childless. I had there said:

It is this last that halts Jalal in his tracks, for like most sceptics, he is not firm in his disbelief. I for one cannot understand why a 21 year old (or less) is so worried about not having a child yet. He has at least 40 years more to get himself some. But he seems as obsessed with the idea as a TV soap bahu after a decade of childlessness.

As for the latest scene, as I have noted in one of my responses above here,. it was a very very tough call for him personally, given his almost umbilical bond with his Khan Baba for all his life so far, plus his unusual trait of gratitude, so uncommon in kings, and he has a lot to be grateful for to Bairam Khan. If was a question of going to war, he would have made a decision in an instant. He consults these three women because he cannot discuss this matter with his Ministers, and there is no one else left.

My dear,

What an absolutely fascinating id you have! Shakespeare's Dark Lady of the sonnets, no less!

Thank you so much for your very warm comments about this post. It was thoughtful of you to provide those clarifications about Bhaidooj and Yamadwitiya; I have learnt something interesting now thanks to you.

Yes, Ruqaiya has now got a rain check from Mahaam Anga for doing what she would have had to do in any case. Neat!

Astounding analysis!👏 Enjoyed every bit of it. 😃

The new Rukhaiya' smart, elegant and beautiful and that's all. I had a feeling that CV's have already butchered her character while appointing the current actress. The complexity and extra-ordinary grace the character possessed is shunned away with the previous actress. And thus turning her into the very famous and foremost vamp of the love saga. And what next'? As usual the vamp will sow the seeds of misunderstanding between the love birds.đŸ„± Correctly said by someone, history repeats itself. : P

I had a lot of expectation from the character Rukhaiya, and was keen to witness how it develops but it seems CV's are no more interested in rearing up her role.

About Maham-Anga and Rukhaiya's partnership' Rukhaiya took advantage of Maham. What else would have she suggested? I am quite confident that she won't say Jalal to abide by his Mom. The ever-so-genius Maham was expected to back fire Rukhaiya considering there was no better option left for her other than supporting Maham and thus accept no bondage of gratefulness. Maham is that bit well in getting the opponent's intention I thought.

Joke of the day was rib-tickling' they keep uttering about Jalal's head all the time as if its not the Mughal Emperor but some delicious Mangoes that they've to break from the tree as soon as the guard falls asleep.😆

And lastly about the question' with the li'l knowledge I've' according to me, Bhaidooj and Diwali have a day gap between them. And though the 'tithi' is same Yamdwitiya is observed the next day of Bhaidooj.(and if that confuses you then its Diwali> normal day > bhaidooj > yamdwitiya.)😊
