But I agree when it comes to limited format, his script selections have been sooo sooo amazing...

Like I just loved "Tu hai mera Sunday"...such a beautiful feel-good movie...and it gives you so much hope...I saw it a number of times during the lockdown...

I also really liked "Halahal" ....a very underrated but really good movie with an amazing performance from him...

Then when it comes to web series, I think Asur 1 is really the benchmark for me in terms of excellence in that particular genre..I loved each and every thing about that .....it was brilliant..

Kohra was good as well...

I also liked the last"raat jawan hai"

So he is doing quite good in OTT space...

I somehow felt he did that as a favour to Gul…can only speculate on the reasons but perhaps the reason that Gul accommodated his movie shoots or that was Barun’s favour to Gul I don’t know

I loved Barun in Asur 1 & Halahal ( which I watched while on a flight) but surprisingly I loved Barun in Tu hain mera Sunday a lot too !! I like how Barun just surrenders to the script and if he enunciated better I feel he would make a better package. He has what I call not making heavy weather of the screenplay…

always feel he has great script sense…

an intelligent actor and one of those who called out the capitalist tendency killing creativity…at the peak of IPK craziness…

Coming to the point of Imlie connect in Jhanak...well... it's a forced juxtaposition of Imlie (OG is Ishti Kutum) to stretch Jhanak to gen 2..I guess, Leena would not have taken this route, if gen leap was not planned for the show...her plan was to go Jol Nupur way where Ani will be tied to Arshi for the kid and Jhanak will have a solo journey dedicated to dance...but then how will she keep repeating her filthy display of PL victimisation, EMA, good for nothing ML and an irritating FL, if Jhanak 1 is established in life and leading an independent life? Gen 1 ending was required (acc to Leena) coz she wanted to remake Ishti Kutum, again (once sone in Imlie), as her templates are numbered.

Are there English adaptations - are they written by Tagore himself ?

Hmm.. much water(***) has flown under the compare-Imlie-Jhanak bridge since my last msg and reactions to that.. got busy at work and couldn't respond in time..

I dont watch TV soaps at all. KA, HN, Gashmeer Mahajani, Sumbul -- all were equally new to me. I absolutely didnt have any SM account, never sought off-screen info about anyone in media/politics/sports/entertainment industry...

I caught Aniruddh Bose quite accidentally on my TV because of a wrong press on the remote. I felt propelled to find out who the actor is, name of the show, how can I catch it etc etc. For the very 1st time I downloaded an OTT app, paid for it and watched Jhanak. As I watched him in Jhanak, I felt compelled to search for his other shows.. I created a pvt, no friends/followers type IG account too as most of you here would fwd IG links about Jhanak.

None of this happened to me when I watched Imlie and GM as Adi.. I don't have ANYTHING against him.. he just didnt catapult me into wanting to see more... I didnt even bother finding his real name..

I could not FFwd AB in Jhanak while trying to catch-up with the series..many a times I have replayed the scenes.. Whereas I would never stop for Adi ( for that matter anyone) in Imlie.. I could FF Imlie easily.. only coming back when i have missed something important in the story... I didnt complete it even..

IF is my first SM engagement :) I came here forced by the incoherence of Jhanak... I learnt here that Imlie is the predecessor and tried it to decode how Jhanak my go..

So, Whether I liked KA as AB over GM as Adi.. I have to say YES. KA as AB worked for me, GM as Adi didn't.. no offense meant to anybody!

I would stop for Sumbul village scenes on the other hand. She caught my attention - I noted her name and had looked up her Wiki page a few episodes into Imlie. I liked the way she portrayed agility & confidence of Imlie, full of girlish energy and youth. She appeared absolutely at ease with the character and I liked her diction - I dont belong to the region but at least I couldn't spot any lack of fluency in her dialogues...

All the parts shot in village, I found her very beautiful in the earthy look, esp post-marriage. Her dusky skin, no makeup (or perhaps makeup that didnt look made-up), simple cotton saree that she carried extremely well, a very traditional style of wearing kaajal, simple solid red bindi and sindhoor thats not gaudy but doesnt fail to draw attention at the same time.. my idea of "conventional Indian beauty".

Regarding HN, there are many places, I was absolutely impressed by HN - her expressions, elegance... Absolutely liked the Urvashi's daughter part. During "maid/refugee in SirJi's house part", Jhanak had to look very simple and yet beautiful. Armed with only everyday-type salwars, no makeup or jewellery, HN delivered it 100% - she was very convincing as "a maid giving Arshi a run for her girl-friend status"... elegance in her body language did the magic!

She disappointed me the most in the heart-attack track where a very sick Sirji is laying in Jhanak's lap in the car... HN fell short in both body-lang and emoting here. Instead of seeing a deeply worried Jhanak, I could see a very uneasy, awkward HN in that scene.. is she hesitant of holding a male actor so close... !!

A scene where a lovelorn SirJi is singing in Appudi's post-wedding party and Jhanak is in a Mumbai hotel, that same song playing on radio. Jhanak is crying.. I cant exactly say whats lacking but HN didnt work for me here.. Another one of excruciatingly sad/broken Jhanak scene was when Aniruddh is forced to marry a pregnant Arshi .. I was convinced by how KA showed SirJi's emotions here.. just the next scene, Jhanak is sitting all alone by a small table and crying.. the scene was supposed to be soaked in emotions but HN failed to move me... so artifical as though the tears were counted and dropped on her cheeks..

Both these scenes were HN solo scenes, nobody else in the frame and she was not up to mark, for me.. !!

Post-Return from Gujarat onwards, her hairstyle was a BIG put off for me.. like shouting out "I am a WIG.." I cant blame HN if PH dressed her up this way..

And in the entire Simbulboni track, the way she carried the saree irked me (I know most of you may disagree).

She was so graceful and stunning in all saree scenes of Calcutta.. Even in the "Kaun Jhanak" promo she looks good in the saree but not in the actual Simulboni track.

HN was supposed to appear an educated-girl (that was Nutan's image among the villagers).. Instead the way she wore, crumpled, soiled, unevenly stretched up on different parts of her frail body, the blouse too big for the few micrograms of flesh on her arms... Agreed, the saree was designed dull & unworthy, but she could have wrapped it a bit more elegantly...

Re: Yogi....if as you are saying he's such a good director who knows exactly how long to time a look/touch, how come the same impact is not coming through in Gen 2 where he is still the director? I would have to disagree about the acclaim being heaped on Mr. Yogi as a director....I've seen way better directors than him on ITV.....he is as much of a gaslighting director as Leena is a gaslighting writer....no wonder a dream team then that has churned out 700+ episodes of this garbage.

Re: Imlie....curious what episodes you watched that you found the direction so lacking. My estimation was that the direction of the first 100 episodes was quite good in showcasing the story with a grounded/earthy vibe. The village vibe in Imlie was actually organic while everything in Jhanak was more cosmopolitan....never had that rooted mitti ki khushboo vibe.

And I'm sure you will disagree but Gashmeer is a far better actor than Krushal smiley36

A director can only direct human-beings (S1 cast), not some show-pieces (S2 cast).

I saw only 2 TV shows so far.. Jhanak and Bindi.. and i felt Yogi deals better with how to capture a scene..
Imlie, not sure who directed.. one thing that stood out for me is there were no forced (read as 'for want of TRP') romance scenes AFAI watched.. not much slow-motion also perhaps..

LoL...no one will disagree to this point of yours 😂 Simbulboni track was the worst in terms of Jhanak's character arc, Hiba's acting and yes, in terms of those eye soaring sasta sarees! But I guess MM's fav CS turned Arshi didi needed a make over with short wig and those ugly salwaar suits to amp up her look of a 'rich pati ka trophy pseudo sophisticated biwi', which made her appear even more hawasi than what she used to look 5 years ago! So the budget amount kept for make up and costumes was again transferred from Jhanak's account to Arshi's account 🤣🤣

So to summarize, you feel KA never faltered in a single scene as Anirudh, Sumbul never faltered in a single scene as Imlie but HN and GM faltered many times as per you. Ok smiley36

Yeah may be....Bcz it's surprising that someone with script sense of Barun would do something like IPK3🤣....

Agree with everything else regarding Barun..

Waise talking about Barun and Gul .... have you seen that webseries called "Tanhaiyan" starring Barun and Surbhi Jyoti as Haider and Meera ...

Barun as Haider Ali Khan was really good..That character allowed him to explore some really dark emotions and spiritual depths as well... along with some beautiful "shayaris" and lines... which some might find cringe some might love...and I belong to the second category..I loved them😍🤣...

And I love the OST of the show sooo much...I still keep listening to it beech beech mein ❤️

LoL...AYji, imv Krush's worst acting phase in Jhanak is also observed during the Simbulboni track 😁 He was standing with no specific expression, showing his back to the video call in which Apu di was mumbling some meaningless dialogues about agle janam me sath hona etc etc to Jhanak...😂 Since Simbulboni track and till the end of gen 1, Krush seemed to struggle to bring most of his scenes alive..which anyway, was expected as whatever he was made to do post 2nd consummation with Jhanak had been nothing short of inhuman 🤷🏻‍♀️
