I'm just copying and pasting my review on today's episode from Epi discussion thread.

"Today's episode was much better than yesterday's.

Shamita's act was my favorite.

Both Kavitha and Deepika did good job. However, I felt their scores were overrated. I don't understand why Lauren who watches many performances critically found Deepika's performance perfect to give her 10. I think Shahid was very apt on that department. Having a minor training in classical Indian dance, I can say that classical portion that they both did (Kavita had one or two steps) were not perfect and to some degree disappointing. I don't know if I am explaining it right, but both of them having "lazy" hands during classical steps really stood out and irked me. Postures are just as important in classical dance forms as they are in western dance forms.

Sanaya is my favorite celeb and I agree with all the comments from judges and felt that she was judged perfectly. Didn't like what Shahid said about him just giving her 9 for the last time. 34 is an apt score for that performance. I think Karan should have given 9 and Shahid 8 if shahid felt that she didn't "earn" that 9 this time. And Karan had really nice things to say so it would have made sense. Her performance was lovely and a visual treat. Loved Sanaya's grace and fluidity from one step to another, but like Shahid said, choreography can be more rigid (of course Jai may have chosen this due to her injury, but hope it's above par next time). I missed that one magical moment in this dance that is always there in Sanaya's romantic numbers.

I do wonder why Lauren judges Sanaya so critically whereas hands out points to Radhika and Deepika. Both of them didn't deserve 10 in their respective performances. I don't have problems with her judging Sanaya critically because it will only help her to improve and do better next time, but wish she would judge everyone with the same measuring stick.

Vivian: though his "dance" was the weakest of all, he does make me laugh the way he dances and his expressions reminded me of "rutha huva" child. Lol, he was cute in this performance. Appreciate his efforts and sportsmanship to just go with the flow. Maybe he deserved 31 instead of 32.

Raftaar was pretty good too, and I believe he was judged fairly today.

Overall for this week, I felt Mohit was underscored by 2-3 points. He was really good outside of those gym bars section. Even Radhika was underscored when you compare it to Vivan's performance. Or maybe Vivan was just overscored.

I guess judges are judging them based on their own capabilities, but at the end of the day, it's a competition and scores do matter, so wish they all use the same measure for all contestants.

Today's comedy was either bearable or I may have skipped the unnecessary drama.

Curious to know who will be out next week. Hope everyone improves and gives us amazing performances--especially Sanaya!! Instead of 9, I want her to earn 10 from shahid next week.

p.s What happened to the spotlight portion in today's episode?""

I think due to the fact Vivian is a non dancer alot isn't expected from him. Explains why he got the scores he had but Radhika is a trained dancers so judges expects alot from her.I don't fell he was underscrored compared to her at first I did but when think about it.. It's all make sense now. Radhika is a much better dancer but his act was more entertaining when compared to her's like some mentioned here.

Good post again 😃
I would like to add that I really like Vivians choreographer. She's intelligent and somehow makes the act look decent despite her partners bad dancing skills.

You're bang-on about the contestants being 'into' the show this time which is why I also feel the connection I had lost when this moved to Colors.
I see what you mean about the acting-based thing. Sanaya, Dipika, Kavita and the men, they are actors first and in the process of becoming 'dancers' via this show. I truly feel the lot this time is the best Colors' has had since it took over. Radhika is a dancer first and then became an actress. So I see why there is a difference. She has technique in her body courtesy her training but I don't find her involved in her performance at all which disconnects me as an audience. And in my school, that was not considered to be the sign of a good dance performance. Radhika is a good dancer but she is yet to give a good performance which is why she has disappointed me. But it's only been two weeks. I am not dissing her at all.
And for your last comment, I do agree with it. I hope for a lot of these contestants to stay for long. Not everyone from TV makes it too far but they're not one of the early-goers either. Still, the bottom two this time was two TV actresses. And if you're talking of Vivian and Sanaya, I won't hold my breath. They're going to go really far.

@bold: Completely agree. I think you've nailed it with that statement. That is the marked difference I'm feeling as well. Every season since Colors took over has had the usual hyped contestants and the rest that just fade into the wallpaper/bide their time...the likeability factor is generally low for the non "superstars"

But after a long time they've got a good mix of LIKEABLE contestants, not simply stars thrown in for their star value. And that sincerity that I'm sensing this time is also the most I've seen since Colors took over the show...last time I got a glimpse of it was in the Sony season with Sushant.

Since then every season on Colors had hit or miss contestant-choreo mixes like Shibani-Puneet, Darsheel etc.

This time (ignoring the lame gags in the scripting), speaking for the contestants themselves, I don't them find them as PUT ON as a lot of the others have been recently...to sum it up, I can bear them better😆...

Not to say I still don't forward some acts that I'm not going to mention here to avoid starting fanwars😆...but there is no one I am super put off by...barring Dipika maybe.

Re: Sanaya and Vivian...lol well that's just stating the obvious...ofcourse I expect them to be carried on far into the show for multiple reasons😆...But I'm liking the work of many of the other contestants-choreos as well...usually that doesn't happen...only 1-2 contestants have been bearable each of the previous seasons to me😆

@.Jane..
It's so nice and refreshing to see a thread filled with perspicacious posts, a thread made solely for dance reviewing without any hidden/not so hidden agendas 😊

Are you a dance student or teacher? May I ask what types of dance you specialize in

Hope we get to read your reviews every week 😊

Hey, Thank You for this thread. I couldn't go through this entirely yet, but I will definitely go through it. I have been watching JDJ since almost Season 1. It's only this year that I am a bit disappointed with some changes. Personally I am not too fond of Lauren as a judge, its not that she isn't good dancer. But something about her just doesn't click, besides I feel she isn't ready for being a judge yet. It's just two years since she came into limelight in India as a dancer. But I am hoping with time she might improve, and she deserves one chance. Though I cannot help but think of some better, senior candidates in her place like Isha Sharvani. Shahid has been doing pretty good as a judge and I like im, minus unnecessary jokes with Karan; and extra duty of hosting the show. Though I still miss Madhuri and Remo.

As far as dances r concerned, we all know Sanaya, Vivian and Ashish, at least are completely non-dancers. They all need to put in a lot of hard work which I am sure they're putting in. Not to forget a lot depends on choreo-partner also. This time round I have my own favourite star Ashish as contestant and I am hoping to see him see as an improved and confident dancer by the end of his stint in the show. This week, I could see he has improved; reason maybe a combo of his focus and maybe dance style like you said. But it was good to see him like this.

All previous years, I have admired Isha and Shakti the most as dancers and contestants. This year I look forward to watch Faizal's performances. I know he can do even better.

As for other contestants, I like Shamita a lot, for her stage presence and her dance, of course.

Scarlett : Abhi to party shuru hui hai.. i loved it! Each sync each posture is just kind of perfect. One thing i love is her chemistry with coreographer. She dance very bindaas n enjoy herself and as a viewer it makes me feel like dance with her too.Her cordination wd her partner is just PERFECT!
Radhika : Dont know why i feel there is lack of chemistry b/w her and her coreo. She is trained dancer and her moves and steps are also decent but dont know what went wrong. her act appeared lacklusture to me.
Dipika : Her coreo is BRILLIENT and best of all but dipika is not doing full justice to it.Anyways her act was decent n i kind of enjoy it.As someone mentioned she was missing sync in mudras at first bt whn vaibhav take over stage.deepika also dance in form.i want dipika to stay jst bcz to see vaibhav awesome coreography

@SD: Thanks a lot! I agree Vivian's act was overall engaging despite the poor dance.
And haha, well, different dance forms have their unique style of presentation and technique and which body parts they make the most use of. Some of them do share common steps, depends on their origin. But one can tell which form the act is making use of. Is this the first time you're seeing a dance show? If you start watching regularly, you'll be able to tell them apart :)

@AreYaar: You're so bang on about the 'sincerity'. That's exactly what wasn't working for me the last three seasons which I do see this time and I hope it continues. I wouldn't blame the contestants solely. The judgement was superficial and marks were awarded very leniently. Nobody had to work for it. Till Sushant's season, full marks were only awarded for extraordinary performances. Beyond a point, even a flawless act got a 9.

@Betti: Thank you so much! I was a student (and briefly a probationer) for street+lyrical jazz. I will try this every week, thanks once again :)

@chahat4u: Thank you for your review. I too have been watching since S1, though I confess I dropped both S6 and S7 midway. I agree Lauren feels out-of-place as a judge. She was better this week but it still feels too soon. I don't miss Mads and Remo, tbh. They're fine by themselves but the trio panel of those two with KJo gave me headaches!
Rest I agree with your assessments on the contestants.

@pallavi_: Thank you for your insights. Needless to say, I agree with them :)

Thankyou for having a clean thread that only focuses on the main concept and provides constructive criticism and not mindless bashing. I've to say I'm enjoying posting on a forum after a really long time 😆

Also, are you trained professionally in any dance form? Just curious.

Yes this is the first time I'm watching a dance show so closely so everything looks the same to me 😆
