I fail to understand with what qualification SLB has been chosen to be a judge?

Has he ever been a coregrapher? NO!

Has he studied dance forms? Not to my knowledge.

He has no qualification to be judging this show. In addition to that he is blatantly biased towards his fraternity (Mahesh). He has given him two 10s in a row. There is no justification for that. This man has no sense how to appear on TV. He is always chewing something while on TV. This is extremely impolite and should not be tolerated by the producers of the show. He adds little to no value in his critique to the contestants. He simply says "I liked your dance" or "you were spicy", etc. Obviously, each person will have their likes and dislikes. However, for a judge there has to be some basic knowledge and background in the field you are asked to judge. I think someone like Shaimak Davar should have been a judge instead of SLB. This is not a contest about directing movies. What do you guys think?

I agree , I mean a director would be a good judge for a dance show which concentrates on bollwood numbers and other stuff like NB2 .Here more importance is given to form, style and technique in dancing which def needs expertise or someone who dances ,thats wht farqh and shilpa come in but SLB is just being too partial towards maheshji and gives him 10 everytime .
But I also heard that he and faran were joing choreographres in 1942 a love story and he actually started out as a choreographer and then he and farah had a tiff and they never spoke till JDL happened .

Little known fact about SLB is that he has been a Choreographer in his earlier days for more than 5 years. His mother LB was a choreographer almost her entire career. He was Arts director with Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed the songs in Parinda (no major dancing involved)

I think a judge should be someone who is accomplished in that particular field. Even if SLB was a coreographer in the past, he certainly wasn't very successful at it (indirectly implying that he wasn't very good at it). Just because someone attempted something doesn't make him/her an expert at it. If someone tried to be a math teacher but failed, should that person be allowed to write or check math exams for board exams?

The problem with having such judges is that it brings the credibility of such shows in question. If Mahesh wins because of SLB would that be fair? I have nothing against him but I want him to win on merit, not on director's quota system.

Most of the movie directors are competent enough to judge the dances. They are the ones who visualise what kind of dance do they want in the movie and instruct the choreographers accordingly. Don't forget SLB's movies Devdas and HDDCS and the dance sequences in them. Those were all brain child of SLB.

Absolutely disagree with you. The dance sequences are visualized, choreographed AND directed by the choreographers. The directors simply narate the situation and get out of the way. What do you think people like Farah Khan and Saroj Khan, etc. have been doing all these years? I have been on movie sets where songs have been picturized. Directors have very little input. They comment on things like lights and camera angles but NOT on dance steps and if a particular dance sequence was executed properly. THIS is what this show is about and it's completely out of SLBs area of expertise.

NOthing personal - but you seem to lack knowledge in knowing with SLB did prior to his successful movie career. In mid 80s, SLB was a known choreographer (not in the movie industry) in Mumbai. His choreographed garba's were quite renowned during Navratri times.

its all up to the public on who they want to vote for in the end...in reality the public's opinion and the judge's opinion never match like in fame gurukul where qazi kept getting the most public votes even though there were more qualified singers in my opinion before him who were voted out because of the public.

even if sanjay gives mahesh a 10, it is ultimately up to the voters and what they decide on who the best dancer isits all up to the public on who they want to vote for in the end...in reality the public's opinion and the judge's opinion never match like in fame gurukul where qazi kept getting the most public votes even though there were more qualified singers in my opinion before him who were voted out because of the public.

The debate isn't about public or judge voting. The issue is about having qualified judges. In my opinion, SLB isn't qualified to be a judge at this level. Even if he choreographed some garba dances for Navratri, it does not make him a qualified person. He is not here to judge Garba dances.

One of the problem that our country has is having unqualified people in decision making positions. That's the issue we are debating.
