Hey guys...! 😃 another week, another string of some wonderful performances...and here's what i thought about each of them...i missed Baichung and Karan's Tapori performance coz of a power cut, so i'll leave their analysis to you guys...i did watch the entire second round though, thankfully...so here goes...😊
ROUND 1
Hard Kaur and Savio : This was one performance i was extremely excited to watch, coz i know that Hard Kaur's broken alot of image barriers by being Soft Kaur too, but a Mujra was something i still couldn't associate with her...hehe...and so, when she walked in, i had my fingers crossed...but she danced really well...she was very graceful...most of her choreography was turns and turns...but she did the footwork decently well...i won't go into the nitty-gritties of the 'tatkar' and the mudra which was a little loose, since she has no classical training...but yeah, she carried off the choreography pretty well...
Judges' Assessment : SK10 JC9 VM8
My Take : Agree with the total score...i would have given her a 9...⭐️
Gauhar and Himanshu : First of all, she looked absolutely stunning in her white and gold ensemble...her dancing was a good attempt...although personally, i thought her movements were a little jerky at times...and with Kathak, the most essential part of a goodce is the way each movement flows into the next, which was there at some moments, and wasn't there at some...besides, there was alot happening in the choreography...alot of intricacies which she had some trouble handling together i guess...well tried, but could have done much better...
Judges' Assessment : SK9 JC8 VM7
My Take : Agree with the total score...i'd give her a 7.5...😊
okay, here, my power went out halfway into Baichung's performance, so i really have no idea about either his or Karan's...will wait for some of you to post in with theirs...although from what i saw, Baichung seemed to be doing really well, expressions and dance, with lip-sync to boot...!!
ROUND 2
Hard Kaur and Savio : I totally loved their Afro-Jazz...the major highlight for me was their brilliant footwork...besides that, very good choreography as a whole piece...both of them danced very well, with decent co-ordination...i felt that they couldn't carry off some of the lifts too well though, contrary to their past record...they nearly lost balance in the last lift, where i could see Savio's arm shaking as he held HK up by her leg...but they pulled it off without falling, thankfully...the costumes are another thing i wasn't a big fan of...the glow-in-the-dark bit was nice at the beginning, but the colours were a little...well...but that's completely my personal opinion, no offense meant...they did the Pause, Slow-Fast Forward bits well though, so full marks for keeping to theme...
Judges' Assessment : SK9 JC9 VM9
My Take : The lifts disappointed me a little, and i feel it could have been a little better as a whole performance, but that could be my expectations talking...she was pretty good as it is though...so i'd give her about a 9...👍🏼
Gauhar and Himanshu : I personally thought the choreography had immense potential...it was a very good piece, if looked at as a whole...but i'm afraid Gauhar couldn't do justice to it, although she tried really hard...they began really well, with perfect co-ordination, energy and everything...but then Gauhar began to forget alot of steps, and that took a toll on their co-ordination as well...there were many instances where Himanshu would pick up when the next bar began, and Gauhar would falter...the Pause, Slow Mo and Fast Forward bits didn't make it any easier for her, but she pulled through those somehow...
Judges' Assessment : SK9 JC7 VM6
My Take : I'd give her a 6.5 or a 7, for trying so hard and at least picking up wherever she faltered...the bits in which she didn't falter were very good, so that's why the extra 1/2 mark...
Baichung and Sonia : I really liked the choreography, first of all...a very intelligently done piece too...especially the Fast Forward bit, with just a 1-2 count footwork, but fitting into the theme...Baichung faltered a little when the routine began though...and yes, unlike whatever i saw of his Tapori act, this one had him dancing with a single expression throughout, and no lip-sync either...but he kept up with the steps quite well...and Sonia deserved each and every bit of the credit she got, for making him dance intelligently...special mention to the end, which i really liked...a little acrobatic, but very hip-hop and carried off very well by Baichung...
Judges' Assessment : SK9 JC9 VM9 (not sure of the distribution though, sorry)
My Take : Well, i thought 27 was a little over the top, considering that HK had the same score, and hers was a very good performance too...i'd give him an 8, since he stumbled a bit in the beginning as well as having no expressions or lip-sync...but all in all, a pretty good performance...😊
Karan and Nicole : Hmm...well, i'm afraid the judges observation was quite accurate this time...the entire routine was really centred around Nicole, who danced absolutely beautifully, by the way, but then Karan's the actual contender here, and well...he did well in what he had to do...the lifts were very good, and very smooth...the entire act was visually very beautiful, and very neatly carried off, but Karan had very little to do apart from lifting Nicole and doing some floorwork, which was also some very good choreography in terms of postures...the expressions were perfect, on both, and from a distance the routine was a very good one...but keeping in mind the fact that this is a competition where Karan is a contestant, it was certainly lacking...
Judges' Assessment : SK7 JC6 VM5
My Take : I was very sad after this one, to be very honest...this was, well, frustrating, since the problem was purely conceptual and could have been avoided...it was a beautifully composed piece which was just out-of-place in a competition where the male partner was a competitor...the lifts were absolutely amazing though, and neat as a pin...if it were an isolated routine i watched on some random stage, i'd probably give it a 9, but keeping in mind that this is Jhalak, and Karan's the one being given scores for dancing here, i'd give them a 6 or 6.5 for the smoothness of the lifts and floorwork, along with the fact that they pulled off the Pause, Slow Mo and Fast Forward bits perfectly...😊
Do post in with your views...and this is a request, please do NOT bash any contestant/host/fellow member...you're free to express your opinion here, but please ensure that you do so in a manner which does not hurt a fellow member or instigate any kind of conflict...let's keep this healthy guys...😊
cheers! 😃
