Harsh reality for Bhagyashree

We all remember her as Suman in the 1989 hit Maine Pyar Kiya. You know who we are talking about?! Its none other than Bhagyashree.

WHEN we heard she was coming back on television after such a long time in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Sony, Friday-Saturday at 9pm) naturally we all camped in front of our telly screens. But sadly for all Bhagyashree fans her stint in the reality dance show has come to an end.
How has your journey been on Jhalak?
It was very nice as I got to learn different forms of dance. I tried to do something new and I even succeeded to an extent. I met different kinds of people from various different fields. So altogether it was a good experience.

Don't you feel that you didn't have enough time to prove yourself?
My motive of coming on the show was not to win or lose, it was to have fun. I am glad that I got to learn different dance forms but there was no aim as such. It was drama and fun and hence I enjoyed being a part of it. I had a different perspective about reality shows or rather I should say I had no clue about realities. This competitiveness between contestants is not what I can do. Basically, I am bad reality material.

What do you think went wrong?
I've no idea of how these realities work so I really don't know. In fact, when I signed Jhalak, a different brief was given to me.

Were you expecting your elimination?
Definitely not! But at the same time, like I said earlier, winning or losing is a very small thing for me. There are many other things which made me happy being a part of the show.

Juhi broke into tears when you were eliminated as she voted you out...
All I want to say is that she has to judge impartially.

Shilpa and you both came into the bottom two, what do you have to say about Shilpa's performance?
Oh, she is a very nice girl and a very good dancer. I truly want her to win. When it comes to me, I don't think I've to prove my status to anyone!

You had Toby as your choreographer. He also choreographed for Mona Singh, season one's winner. Were you expecting more from him?
Why would I have any expectations from anyone? Expectations were pinned more on 'Bhagyashree', that innocent girl who simply rocked in Maine Pyaar Kiya. As I said earlier, I came here to enjoy myself and that purpose has been fulfilled. Coming to Toby, well it's nice to have someone who knows the real flavour of dance.

Two weeks at Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa - how would you now rate yourself as a dancer?
Well, I did lots of Bollywood dances and have developed a lot of flexibility. At least now I know the different forms of dance! I don't want to rate myself but if you insist I would say 4/5.

What have you learnt from the show?
I've learnt the basics of dance.

What have you learnt apart from dance?

Oh, I've learnt what a reality is. I know how they function now but I can't be bitchy and controversial.

If given a chance, would you like to come back on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa through a wildcard entry?
Actually, they have been telling me that but then I am not too sure because if they want me to come back, they have to change the format. I don't like bitching and unnecessarily creating drama. If they do change the format, I would probably give it a thought.

Who do you think deserves to win?
Without a doubt Shilpa! In fact, I've told her that all my votes will go to her as I think she's an amazing dancer and a very hardworking girl.

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa's male participants: no drama, all dance

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa's (Sony, Fri-Sat, 9pm) coming episode will see the men performing as they try to win the hearts of the judges and votes from the audience. But even before the episode airs, we give you a sneak preview of who surprised, who impressed and who regressed with their acts.

A source from the sets says, "The all-men episode turned out to be better than the all-women's show. There was no drama and all dance."

This time's shocker was Karan Singh Grover who took last week's harsh comments from the judges very seriously. "His choreographer Nicole is a good dancer the two performed to the song You Are My Love from Partner. The track suited Karan's image, the judges all praised him and he ended up being the highest scorer of the day," says the source. For the first episode, Karan performed to the title track of Bachna Ae Haseeno and ended up with the lowest marks.

Meanwhile, Juhi Chawla liked Ram Kapoor's performance so much that she went on to the dance floor to shake a leg with him. The source adds, "Ram Kapoor received average marks the last time he performed on the song Marjaani from Billu. This time, he chose a song from a Shah Rukh Khan's film again. He performed to Haule Haule from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. His performance was simple yet nice. He even dressed like Surinder Suri from the movie."

Mohinder Amarnath and Anand Raj Anand however, did not receive favourable comments for their performances. The source says, "Mohinder was the highest scorer amongst the guys last week but the judges were not happy with his performance this time. He danced to the song Rock N Roll Soniye from Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Anand Raj Anand's performance did not please the judges either."
Footballer Baichhug Buthia, whose wife visited the sets to cheer for him, and magician Ugesh Sarkar performed better.
After Bhagyashree being eliminated last week, the second eliminations will take place on Saturday's episode.

JDJ: Rewind Episode 5

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa's all-boys special episodes was rocking, with most of the performers churning out impressive performances. Here is the round up of the episode.

Ram Kapoor-Marischa
The first performer of the evening was Ram Kapoor with his partner Marischa. They performed on the song Tu Yaar Tuhi Dildar from Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani. Ram dressed like Surinder Suri from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The concept was very good and their performance was sweet. Judges gave the duo a well deserved 26 points
Indya Rating: 8.5

Baichung Butia–Sonia
Dancing to Sade Naal Karle Party from Kismat Konnection, Baichung's efforts were quite good and being a sportsman, the way he performed his steps was commendable. This time around, he also made headway with his facial expressions. Even though Sonia missed a step, Baichung did not miss a single beat. He scored 23.

Indya Rating: 7

Karan Singh Grover–Nicole
The selection of the song You Are My Love from the film Partner was good. Karan's look and choreography was perfect. It was a pleasant surprise to watch him. He emulated Salman Khan, who is featured in the original song, very well. He was lowest scorer last week but this week he made up for it by becoming the highest scorer with 29 marks.

Indya Rating: 10

Mohinder Amarnath–Lilan
Mohinder performed on the song Rock N Roll Soniye from the film Kabhi Alvida Na Kahna. He dressed like Amitabh Bachchan, on which the original song is picturised .The concept of the performance was a little confusing but his energy was very good for his age. He got 23 points.

Indya Rating: 6.5

Anand Raj Anand–Rozita
Anand Raj Anand danced to the song Ankhinyon Se Goli Mare from the Govinda and Raveena Tandon-starrer Dulheraja. Rozita gave him suitable steps. Overall, it was a good effort though a few of their steps were not clear. This may have been because of their fight during the rehearsals. He was the lowest scorer of the evening with 21 marks.

Indya Rating: 5

Ugesh Sarcar-Tina
Ugesh danced to Main Aisa Kyun Hoon from Lakshya and had to compete with Hrithik Roshan's outstanding original performance. Tina nicely blended steps with magic tricks in the performance and Ugesh too, imitated Hrithik's character from Koi Mil Gaya well. Their performance was a treat to watch. He got 25 marks.

Indya Rating: 8
On Saturday, the second elimination of the season will take place.

Dance rehearsals have made me fit: Mohinder
IANS - 3/14/2009

1 | 2 | All

New Delhi, March 14 (IANS) Dancing for Mohinder Amarnath was always just shaking a leg at a party, but the former cricketer-commentator says dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhla Ja" has not only perfected his moves but also made him a fitter person, thanks to the rigorous rehearsals.

"Dancing has had a great impact on my health. I'm a fitter person now. I used to walk and jog before, but now I have rehearsals for three-four... sometimes six hours a day. This has made me lose weight. It is a complete exercise," Amarnath, who is the seniormost among the contestants, told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

Cricket has been his life, whether it was playing on field, being a commentator or an analyst. So what made him put on the dancing shoes at the age of 58?

"There was definitely some doubt in my mind when 'Jhalak...' was offered to me, but then I thought this is something I have never done in my life; so why not give it a shot?" Amarnath said.

Cricket required continuous practice, but he admits that taking dance lessons was a bigger challenge.

"Cricket is something I have played all my life. I have experience in that field and I know everything about it. But I have no experience in dance and it is something completely new for me. Dancing is definitely a bigger challenge for me," said Amarnath, who danced to the peppy "Jee Karda" from "Singh is Kinng" in his first round.

"Dancing for me was only shaking one's hands and legs at a party. But 'Jhalak...' has taught me that it is much more than that. It's not easy at all - a lot of hard work. But even though it's challenging, I have always believed that nothing is impossible in this world. That is why I plunged into doing something like this," he added.

The veteran cricketer says that age is the last thing on his mind when he goes to dance. He stressed that he just wants to give 100 percent on the show that brings together celebrities from different walks of life such as sports, films, fashion and music to perform with professional dance partners.

Amarnath is all praise for his choreographer and dance partner Lilian.

"Lilian is a sweetheart and great at her work. She is brilliant, graceful and extremely patient. I make so many mistakes and take time to pick up the steps but she never loses her cool."

So who is his favourite contestant and judge?

"All are good dancers especially the girls. But I am very fond of (singer) Hard Kaur. She is a wonderful person and a great dancer.

"As far as the judges are concerned, all the three ladies (choreographers Saroj Khan, Vaibhavi Merchant and actress Juhi Chawla) are extremely good and I respect them. However, it will be better for me if I don't pick one," he laughed.

I've become a monster of a disciplinarian: Gautami

Gautami Kapoor's on a break right now and guess what? Sitting at home she has become a control freak! "I am juggling time between my two kids— daughter Sia and my one-and-a half month old son Aks. Though I have help around I have turned into a control freak! My husband Ram calls me a monster jokingly as I end up doing every little task myself. Such are my days now," laughed Gautami.

But the scene at Gautami's home is one brimming with drama and dance! With Ram participating in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Ja, Gautami has lots of tips for him. "I am happy that through this dance show, he as a person is coming across. It's not a character he is playing. I do give him tips on swift, fluid movements and I know he is putting in his best. The good thing is this will help him knock off some kilos too. Not many people know how much a fun-loving person Ram is. He is prankster. While people find him very serious, he actually has a jovial personality," she says.

Size does matter and getting back into her original size 8 is a concern for Gautami. During her first child, she had put on 23 kilos and lost all of it in six months flat. This time around, she again gained 23 kilos and has lost 12 kilos already in one-and-a-half months. "My body frame is slim. And I want to get back into shape fast enough. I need to strike a balance with kids and work. I want to start going out too. My friends often call me out for parties and I feel bad to give them a miss. But soon I will."

What about work on the small screen? "I am looking forward to do some reality series. It saves time and has few dedicated episodes and will work quite fine for me. When I was pregnant, I was approached for many reality shows. And now, after my delivery, I'm hoping to hear from them again."

Talking about the second man in herlife — her son Aks, she says, "He loves being carried in the arms all day long. In April, he will turn three months old. By then, I will hopefully have put him into a good routine. Ram always tells me to take things easy with him. But I know I have turned into a monster of a disciplinarian. I'm enjoying all of this high-intensity unpredictable action of nappy changing, bathing, cleaning, feeding, sleeping and before I know it, the day has turned into the night (laughs). In just some more time, I will be back on the small screen. Till then I'm going to be a good momma at home."
