Article: Karan & Nicole Link up

Even before the first episode of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Dancing with the Stars 3 is on air, there are sparks flying between the contestants. Karan Grover, the heart-throb on the small screen is turning on his charm off screen as well. Karan and his choreographer partner Nicole are making news at the rehearsals, not with their dancing skills but their physical proximity. In spite of visual evidence that they cannot deny, Karan's wife Shraddha Nigam is sticking up for him - "I am always there while he is rehearsing. It is only clever editing that you are seeing," she said. She even plans to send home made food for Nicole. That's what we call trust!

Here's what happened on JDJ 3 last night

The third season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa kicked off on Friday at 9pm, with Mona Singh and Prachi Desai, the winners of seasons one and two performing the title song of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, which was a treat to watch.

After Prachi and Mona introduced the 12 contestants, Shweta Tiwari and Shiv Pandit took over. However, it'd have been better if Mona and Prachi had continued. Shweta and Shiv aren't very good hosts and Shweta needs to learn a lot from her colleagues Hussain and Mona Singh. As for Shiv, he may be a superstar down south, but he pales in comparison to other hosts.
Monica Bedi and Javed
It was Monica Bedi who first took to the stage. She's been paired up with Javed, who was with Sandhya Mridul last year. They danced to Honth Raseele from Welcome. They performed well and the judges gave them 24 marks, which they deserved. But Monica needs to improve, if not only to make it seem that she and not Javed alone deserves the points.
Indya Rating: 8.5/10
Anand Raj Anand and Rossita
Tera Sarafa from Welcome is a fun song and Anand danced very well. The concept was funny and the duo seems destined for success. They got 23 marks from the judges.
Indya Rating: 7/10
Gauhar Khan and Hanif Hilal
Before their performance began, audiences were shown glimpses of fights between Gauhar and Hanif. It was enjoyable, but it should've been cut short as we would have got to see more of the dance, which was spectacular, although uncoordinated at times. Hanif, even though he was being insulted by Gauhar, conducted himself very well and kept quiet. In the end, the judges only considered their performance and gave them 24 marks.
Indya Rating: 9/10
Baichung Bhutia and Sonia
They selected the song Dance Pe Chance from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Baichung only put in three days into the song and while he wasn't very expressive, he was very impressive as far as moving his feet is concerned. If he can dance so well with minimal practice, he should be able to make it to the end. He scored 22.
Indya Rating: 8.5/10
Hard Kaur and Savio
Hard Kaur and Savio chose to dance to song Talli Ho Gayi, which Hard Kaur has no doubt danced to several times before. It was choreographed very well and Hard Kaur proved she's going to be one to reckon with. She got 27 points.
Indya Rating: 9.5/10
Ram Kapoor and Marischa
Marischa did a good job with Mir Ranjan Negi last year and this year, she has another challenging task ahead of her. In spite of good efforts from Ram, the concept was not good enough or inappropriate for Ram, who could not catch up. He scored 20.
Indya Rating: 6/10

Saroj was, as usual, at her judgmental best, but Juhi looked confused at time and some of Vaibhavi's praises seemed to be inflated. However, the first episode was good overall. It is definitely two thumbs up for Jhalak's new season.

Gauhar's pissed off, Hanif defends

The supermodel Gauhar Khan is pissed off these days. No no, it is not because of the wardrobe malfunction this time but it is because of Jhalak Dikhhla Ja. Apparently the model is not so-happy with her choreographer Hanif Hilal. It was so because Hanif confessed that he is not that good with Bollywood choreography instead is great in Latin dance.

This unfortunately did not get well digested by Gauhar it seems. She knew she is a great dancer and didn't want to loose out on any opportunity that comes her way. In short, this incident de- motivated her. Buzz is that she wants a replacement for her choreographer.

We spoke to Gauhar who was not in a happy mood it seemed and the moment we narrated the incident to her "I do not wish to comment anything on this matter", out spoke Gauhar.

When probed further she finally opened her mouth and said, "Off course I am not happy. I took Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa very seriously and I don't want to compromise a bit on it".

We tried probing in her further but she plainly refused to say anything.

For a change the grass was greener on the other side. Hanif Hilal, the choreographer for Gauhar spoke quite bluntly.

"I am a man of my words. I am honest by nature and do not like to hide anything. Same was the case here too. I had informed about this matter to the channel before hand and now all of a sudden I am seeing this. It is not that I am bad with Bollywood numbers. I have done the previous season for Jhalak and Nach Baliye, so it is not that I do not know much on it. In fact I would rate myself 8/10 when I speak on Bollywood numbers. Yes, when it comes to Latin dance I rate myself 10/10. I am too good in that".

So is it that Gauhar is exaggerating things?

"I don't know. Gauhar is a nice girl and is very much professional in her work. She dances amazingly and is great by heart. I don't know why things are being pulled so much".

When asked about the buzz that the channel is planning to replace him, Hanif sounded a bit astonished in his tone and replied, "I really have no clue on this one. As of now I am regularly rehearsing and things are going fine".

So did this incident spoil her relations with Gauhar or is there any kind of attitude throwing scene going in the rehearsals?

"Absolutely, not We are certainly working as a team and both of us are being very professional with our work. Gauhar is a nice girl and I really hope things settle down peacefully between us".

It seems like some intense tension is really building up on these two hotties, who as they say are trying to work things out. Well you never know what can happen. We hope their fight does not become their reason to get eliminated from Jhalak or else we won't get to see their Jhalak next time.

want a sweet, cute and simple guy: Parul

2 Mar 2009, 0006 hrs IST, SHRUTI JAMBHEKAR, TNN
Email Discuss Share Save Text:
This dusky girl captivated hearts of many in her debut performance as Raagini in Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai. Contrary to her on screen portrayal as a
Parul Chauhan
reticent and calm girl, we found 20-year-old to Parul Chauhan to be quite talkative and fun loving.

Parul is all set to hit the dance floor by participating in the third season of Jhalak Dikhla Ja. "I love to dance but I have received no formal training. I can pick up the steps while rehearsing as I did for certain episodes of Bidaai where I was supposed to dance."

Parul is all admiration for her choreographer Deepak Singh. "He is both a friend and teacher to me. I'm really lucky to have him," she says. Parul feels her current soap has "given me an identity and has made me win three awards this year. Audiences too love my character and I think that's what an actor craves for." So does she find juggling between a reality show and her current show a tad taxing? "It really is difficult. But I rehearse scripts of the serial while travelling which saves time for me," says Parul.

As she shares how acting happened to her, it becomes evident that things did not come easy to her. "I never aspired to be an actress. I hail from a middle class family based in Lucknow. While I was pursuing my engineering course my friends insisted me on getting into acting. That's how I came to Mumbai," says Parul who further adds, "I struggled for almost two years and I kept on going for auditions after auditions. I even had to starve myself for 10 days due to lack of money. And my parents sent me some money after they came to know about my plight by selling the jewellery they had bought for my marriage. But in life nothing comes easy."

As a person, Parul is, "sensitive and compassionate. I can't see anyone suffering. I keep on playing pranks and keep smiling which keeps my spirits high." Parul loves to "cook and dance" and prefers, "watching Kal Ho Na Ho, listen to music and party at times. Frankly speaking, I don't like to sit idle."

Ask her about life in Mumbai, and she avers, "It is very fast-paced. This city has given me so many new friends. The best part of this city is no one peeps into your life unlike Lucknow."

Has Parul found her prince charming? She gushes, "I am looking to find a guy for myself. I want a sweet, cute and simple guy as my life partner. And should love me more than anyone in the world."

Hard Kaur sheds weight, thanks 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa'

March 2nd, 2009 - 8:54 am ICT by IANS -

New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) Indian rapper Hard Kaur has put on her dancing shoes for reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" and she is overjoyed that the rigorous dance rehearsals have helped her shed those extra kilos without visits to the gym.
"I'm very happy that I have lost my baby fat without hitting the gym. I had put on loads of weight after I came back from London. I was gorging on everything that used to come my way be it butter chicken or dal makhani, I just love food like a true Punjabi girl," Kaur told IANS.

"Due to this I had put on some weight, but I have lost it all now, thanks to the rehearsals. And the funniest part is that I'm being paid to lose weight. What else can you ask for," she quipped.

The singer, who is one of the contestants in the third season of "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa", impressed all the three judges - Saroj Khan, Juhi Chawla and Vaibhavi Merchant - with her performance. The show went on air Friday on Sony channel.

Hard Kaur, whose real name is Taran Kaur Dillon, shot to fame with the song "Glassy" that became a huge hit. She then went on to sing Bollywood numbers like "Move your body" ("Johnny Gaddaar"), the title track of "Singh Is Kinng" and "Lucky boy" ("Bachna Ae Haseeno") among others.

Born in Chandigarh, Kaur moved to London in 1991 and did her schooling there. She later joined the London School of Music to pursue her dream of singing in Bollywood.

"Bollywood is in my blood. Even though I was in London for 16 years, I always knew that I would come back to India. You just can't run away from your roots and I'm enjoying every bit of attention," she said.

Vivacious, tomboyish and blunt, Kaur admits that the rap and hip-hop industry is a male dominated territory and she had to struggle to carve a niche for herself.

"The organisers used to cancel my shows at the last moment because they were being told to do so by the so-called influential and established stars - because they couldn't digest the fact that a female was rubbing shoulders

with them," Kaur said.

"It was disheartening but such incidents have helped a lot in making me what I am. Now I don't take anything rude from any man and I have learnt how to give it back to them as well.

"I have a right to live my life as a human being and just because I chose an unconventional path, many people labelled me as prostitute. This is so silly. Making music and prostitution are two different things. But they will not understand."

Kaur also attributes her success to her mother, who stood by her and encouraged her to turn her dreams into reality.

"She has always been there. She taught me to respect my culture and pursue my dreams but at the same time guided me so that I wasn't carried away by the glamour and glitz. My roots are very much grounded," she said.

Here's what happened at JDJ 3 last night

The second episode of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa's third season didn't impress us much with the contestants churning out average performances. But among the mediocre acts, two couples stood out.

Surprisingly, they were Mohinder Amarnath with Lilian and Ugesh Sarkar with Tina who got our votes.

Parul Chauhan and Deepak Singh kicked off episode 2 grooving to the song Desi Girl from Dostana. However, even though Deepak, who won last season's competition, had great potential with the hit song, his steps didn't quite live up to our expectations. Parul showed good potential though her talent seemed wasted in her first performance. The judges gave them 20 marks.
Indya Rating: 6

Ugesh Sarkar and his partner Tina performed on the song Its Magic from the film Krrish. Choreographer Tina played it safe with the inexperienced dancer by using simple dance steps and incorporating some magic tricks. Our expectations weren't high for this non-dancer though he surprised us by doing his steps fairly well. Ugesh got 25 marks.

Indya Rating: 8

Bhagyashree and choreographer Tobby, season one's winner, chose the song Chaliya from Tashan to perform to. This was not at all a good choice for Bhagyashree, whose performance looked dull overall. We expected more from Tobby and wish he was more adventurous. Bhyagyashree scored 20 marks.

Indya Rating: 6

Mohinder Amarnath and Lilian danced to the Singh Is Kinng title track. It was a great performance from Mohinder. At his age, the energy he showed was commendable and he really set an example for his competitors. Lilian's efforts too were visible. Mohinder received 25 marks.

Indya Rating: 9

Shilpa Shukla and Nishant danced to the song Kaise Naino Se Nain from Om Shanti Om. Nishant's hard work paid off, especially the touch of classical moves that he incorporated into the performance. Shilpa did her bit and put in a good effort. They got 23 marks.

Indya Rating: 7.5

Karan Grover and Nicole performed on the Bachna Ae Hasseno title track. Even though the song choice was perfect for Karan's attitude, the duo focused too much in showing of his styling and body instead of his skill on the dance floor. Neither of them received good comments from the judges or good marks. They scored the lowest with 19 marks.

Indya Rating: 5.5
