SET gears up for Jhalak Dikhla Ja 3 and new mini-series

Mukta Lad, 13 February, 2009

Mumbai

Sony Entertainment Television (SET) has launched new shows as part of the channel's programming line-up. The GEC has announced the third season of the reality dance show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, and a mini-series, titled 'Specials@10'.

Albert Almeida, executive vice president and business head, SET said, "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3- Dancing with the Stars is all about super achievers in their respective fields taking up a new challenge and once again excelling in something new. The show, now in its third season, will enthrall the audience not only with power-packed performances but also keep the viewers glued to their television sets to watch some fascinating moves that will change the image of these popular celebrities".

Twelve celebrities will participate with their choreographers in the show. Jhalak Dikhla Jaa will be telecast from February 27 onwards, at 9 pm everyday Friday and Saturday. Sony's other big ticket show, 'Specials@10', is a mini-series that is slated to be on air for 12 weeks, beginning March 2. For this show, SET has roped in Bollywood directors to create a series that will be broken into twelve episodes. This series will be on air every Monday to Thursday at 10 pm, where each of these days are devoted to a particular director's series.

Leo Burnett has created two TVCs as a part of the advertising campaign, to promote both the shows. Commenting on the campaign, Danish Khan, head of marketing, SET said, "Sony has been involving creative agencies to create image spots for the channel, for quite a while now. We generally rope in agencies when we need high quality promos for big properties. For Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 3's TVC, we've tried to break the clutter, by positioning the show as something people would take up, to try something new. Hence, the tagline, Aaj kya new kiya?. With the Specials@10 commercial, we've captured slice-of-life incidents to generate interest among viewers."

Saroj Khan to judge Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 3

Ace choreographer Saroj Khan will be one of the three judges in the third season of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. This means the choreographer has changed loyalties and won't be back on Nach Baliye - a show which she has judged earlier.

"No I won't be judging Nach Baliye 4 but yes after Aaja Mahi Ve, I will judge for yet another dance reality show which is called Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. Here too I will be keeping in mind the importance of steps and their routine. I have watched season 2 so I know about the format. It will be an interesting show which I look forward to."

Recently there was also a buzz that Saroj will be turning director but Khan says that the rumour is false. "Whatever news has come is false as I'm not directing any films right now. I am only concentrating on choreography. Just a few months back I completed choreographing Amitabh Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh in Allladin."

Being such senior choreographer are you happy with the dance set-up in Bollywood?

"Nowadays every song in a movie looks almost the same. Mainly the item numbers have no specific movements which can be seen but till some years back this was not the case. Each song had its own unique steps... For example take the Dhak Dhak song by Madhuri which is still regarded as one of the most loved song. The scenario has changed in the past four to five years."

What's your take on dance reality shows?

"I think reality shows have really made a lot of impact on the audiences. Everyone wishes to be dancer and is learning dance which is very good. If you take the example of Nach Baliye 2 it made a housewife Tina (Hussain's wife) into a dancer. I think it has helped her to grow as a dancer. I remember the blindfold dance which is not an easy task even for the professionals but despite being a non-dancer she did it. Therefore I am in favor of reality shows. Recently the shadow dance which is done by Mouni and Narayani was also wonderful."

With so many years behind her in Bollywood, Saroj says that choreographers today need to be creative. "We have lots of talent and it only needs to be shown. I just wish all the aspiring choreographers that they should come up with something new every time... be creative in steps. Don't use common dance steps. This is how one can create a unique style of dancing and also make their mark in the industry and every choreographer must not forget to make use of our rich Indian culture in your choreography."

Jhalak Dikhla Jaa is expected to go the floors by the end of this year.

Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 3 the Rich Cousin of other Poor Celebrity Dance Reality Shows

PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 18 February 2009

prachi_desai_jdj.jpg

In the overabundance of Reality Shows and surplus of celebrity dance shows it is Jhalak Dikhla Ja 3 is a cool breeze Check out the new promo video. Over the past season this show has maintained its professionalism unlike few others that have crossed all limits to gather publicity.

mona_singh_jdj.jpgJhalak Dikhla Jaa is the only Dance Reality Show where the animosity between the contestants is bare minimum, there is no uncanny drama to feed the huger of TRPs. The show is simple and it sticks to its format of bringing out the hidden talent and the journey of self discovery especially when you have a mentor in your partner. We have seen tremendous turnaround of Mona Singh and Prachi Desai. But the fight Sandhya Mridul and Shweta Salve gave these girls to win the competition was restricted to the dance floor on the contrary they were well wisher for each other.

sandhya_mridul_jdj.jpg The spirit of competition is being crushed by these ugly tactics of collecting TRPs. Dancing Queen has its judges who bash contestants for a good show (Hema Malini got upset with a comic version of Basanti and Gabbar). And the infamous fight in Zara Nachke Dikha that was flashed all over TV News. And how can one forget Nach Baliye and the sloppy story every time and this time around Nach baliye 4 Finale broke camel's back with mother of all de-entertainment . Rakhi Sawant has been part of two dance reality shows thank God she spared this one. On converse to all this is Jhalak Dikhla Jaa that is all about pure dance and for those who love to watch a beautiful dancing couple.

Celebrities dance to the tune of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3

February 12th, 2009

J.W. Marriot yesterday on 11th February, 2009 saw the curtain raising ceremony for the third season of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. Jhalak Dikhla Jaa which has been quite popular amongst the Indian viewers are back with their third reality show promising bigger and better this time.

The show kick started with Shweta Tiwari, being the host and looked and sounded quite unusual from her daily soap look. No doubt she was looking amazing but her hosting was no less than in a bubbly-chubbly manner. She acted as a child entertaining and making people make at her jokes.

One by one the participants with their respective choreographers performed on stage, each better than the best. Each and every participant are masters in their respective fields. To start with is the well known veteran cricketer, commenter, and cricket analyst Mohinder Amarnath (with Lilian), actor Ram Kapoor (with Marischa), the gorgeous super model Gauhar Khan (with Hanif), television heartthrob Karan Singh Grover (with Nicole), silver screen popular actress Bhagyashree (with Toby), magician Ugesh Sarcar (with Tina), the starlet Monica Bedi (with Javed), the Chak De girl Shilpa Shukla (with Nishant), musician Anand Raj Anand (with Rozita), the Bidaai girl Parul Chauhan (with Deepak) and the Punjabi Indian rapper Hard Kaur (with Savio).

It is all woman panels of judges this year with the dynamic dance guru, Saroj Khan, the chirpy bollywood beauty, Juhi Chawla and the passionate choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant. Although except Juhi none of the judges could make it to the event. Amongst the participants Parul and Anand Raj Anand were missing in the event.

The event was a grand one indeed with the reporters and the cameraman and everyone cheering for the participants performing on various numbers. They indeed gave us a "Jhalak Dikhla Jaa" . -Sampurn Media

Jhalak Dikhhla Ja season3 on Sony should be rocking with loads of dance and little bit of leg pulling with interesting list of participants.

For a change Sony seem to have got it right with the participant selection of season3 of Jhalak Dikhhla Ja. Here goes the honor list:

Karan Singh Grover (Dr Armaan from Dil Mil Gayee) Juhi Chawla (yeah you know her, dont you?) Mohinder Amarnath (the cricketer oldie) Monica Bedi (always in news & bigg boss stint!) Parul Chauhan (dusky girl from Bidaai serial) Hard kaur (the hard taali rapper, remember?) Bhagyashree (She is looking hot these days) Ugesh Sarcar (Slim, curly haired magician) Ram Kapoor (Jia Walia from Kasam Se…)
  • Shilpa Shukla (Bindia from movie Chak De)

As expected, majority of them are from world of Television considering Jhalak Dikhhla Ja comes on television and not on multiplex near your house (HA - bad joke!). Looking forward for some dance. In btw hosting trio has Saroj Khan, Shweta Tiwari and Shiv Pandit.

ENTERTAINMENT: Bhaichung Bhutia enters 'Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa 3'

Posted by barunroy on February 20, 2009

FROM TELLYCHAKKAR

Bhaichung Bhutia, the football superstar, is the latest entrant on 'Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa 3'- the 12th participant.

Since the beginning, the show has seen many replacements. First, boxer Vijendra Singh was replaced by Kamaal R. Khan. And now, Bhaichung will be replacing Kamaal R. Khan.

A channel spokesperson confirmed the news of Bhaichung's entry, but refuted the claim that he is replacing Kamaal R. Khan. "I don't know where that news came from", said the spokesperson. "We had only 11 participants, and Bhaichung has come in as the 12th. He is not replacing anyone."

Bhaichung hardly needs any introduction. The captain of the Indian football team and a player for Mohun Bagan, he has, over the years, achieved icon status. On the show, he is pitted against Gauhar Khan, Bhagyashree, Karan Singh Grover, Monica Bedi, Hard Kaur, and Ram Kapoor.

Bhaichung will match moves with choreographer Sonia Jaffer.

Jhalak Dikhla Jaas season 3 gets more real

At a time when most dance reality shows featuring celebrities are hit by monotony, Sony unveils the third season of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa from February 27.
The show which for the first time brought together celebrities from different walks of life to perform with professional dance partners on a highly competitive platform is once again ready with a new line-up of celebrities, a brand new jury and an X factor in the form of a bungalow where cameras will capture all the hard work they put in to prepare for each performance as well as their journey from a non-dancer to a competitive performer.
"Jhalak is a unique and well cast reality show with celebrities from different professions, unlike other shows which only have television celebrities and copy our format. What makes Jhalak different is its format, wider range of people and variety in dance forms as well," says Sony's programming head Gurdip Bhangoo.
The 12 celebrities who will participate in Jhalak 3 include cricketer Mohinder Amarnath, magician Ugesh Sarkar, model Gauhar Khan, NRI Hard Kaur who is a Bollywood singer and dancer, Bhojpuri film star Kamal Khan, TV actors Ram Kapoor, Parul Chauhan of Bidaai fame and Karan Grover, Shilpa Shukla of Chak De Monica Bedi, film actress Bhagyashree and music director Anand Raj Anand. Choreographers Saroj Khan and Vaibhavi Merchant and actress Juhi Chawla will judge the show.
A multiple-room bungalow has been hired for rehearsals and all behind-the-scene action will be captured on camera and that will be incorporated into the elimination episodes. "The idea is to give viewers a balance of performance and hard work with more reality in the form of competitive spirit, pressure, emotions and camaraderie," adds Gurdip.
Since it's the third season there are chances of monotony setting in. But Gurdip isn't worried. "Imitation kills novelty and overkill affects viewer's interest. But Jhalak is a classy franchise of an international format. The participants are passionate about dance. The show is about commitment. We are confident that the show will do well," says Gurdip.

Karan Deadly Weapon
Karan Grover aka Dr Armaan may have left his stethoscope at home, but he still knows when heartbeats race, miss a beat or stop altogether. After all, he is the reason behind the hearts misbehaving themselves.
When he is not making the girls swoon with his dance moves, he is busy unleashing his other deadly weapon-his kiss. And choreographer Nicole is the lucky girl at the receiving end of his pouty pucker. Every great step or well execute move gets her a peck on her cheeks or her neck. And the presence of his wife at the rehearsals doesn't seem to deter the man from being so liberal.

His belief that kisses make the world (and the girls) go around was proved yet again on the sets, when his bike (a prop for his Bachna ae haseeno performance) failed to start. When vigorous kicks from helpful (and disgruntled) crew members didn't do the trick, Karan puckered up and planted a wet one on the handle bars. And voila, she roared to life.
