Despite an injured leg, Parul Chauhan continues to perform on JDJ

Parul Chauhan, who plays Ragini on Bidaai (Star Plus, Mon-Fri at 9pm), is having a tough time rehearsing for Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa with her injured leg, yet she is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that she puts up a tough fight.

SHE says, "I initially had a problem with my leg but in the past two weeks, there have been so many lifts in my performances that suddenly it started hurting more severely. But this is a competition and I have to perform here. I cannot make any excuses."
The actress, who still has a bandage on her right ankle, shouldn't stand for long hours yet shooting for Bidaai forces her to. She says, "When I fainted during my performance, my doctor told me to take bed rest for at least 15 days, which of course I could not do. Now too, I have been advised to rest but that is next to impossible for me. During the shoot of Bidaai, I could barely stand but I have no option as I have to shoot for long shots. So there too, I hardly get any rest. Thankfully, my bandage can be easily hidden as I have to wear sarees."

Describing her hectic schedule, Parul says, "After finishing off shooting for Bidaai, I have to rehearse for Jhalak for at least 4 hours. I am okay now as I have been taking medicines that my doctor has prescribed and my mother is here to take care of me. She came last week. Everyone was telling me that she should come down to care for me so I asked her to come. She was very worried."

This week, all the contestants have been given two props, blindfolds and elastic bands, which they will have to perform with. Parul is going to perform on a romantic number.

    Blind man bluffing?

Karan Grover and his choreographer Nicole are doing all they can to make sure they are on top of their game on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Sony, Friday-Saturday at 9PM). And this week, in an effort to surpass the judges' expectations, the dancing duo did the salsa… blindfolded!

Karan and Nicole had everyone watching with bated breath with their elaborate movements and amazed as they performed flawlessly. However, their startlingly good performance was questioned when the judges felt that Nicole could see through her blindfold.
Though Nicole swore she couldn't, Saroj Khan insisted that from the position of her head throughout the routine, it was obvious that the choreographer was peeking.
Juhi Chawla agreed with Saroj and the duo lost out on some precious points.

Karan's and Nicole's performance will air on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa this Friday at 9pm on Sony Entertainment Television.

'My mission is accomplished,' says Ram

Ram Kapoor, who became a household name with his role as Mr. Walia of Kasamh Se, was the fifth contestant to be eliminated from Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa this week. Known to add entertainment value of the show, Ram is finally out and is relieved to be so as he didn't think he was up to the complicated moves that were in store for him in the coming episodes. He spoke to us about the show and his elimination, changing his severe image and his hopes for Karan Singh Grover to win.

How has your journey been throughout?

It has been fantastic; in fact, it was more fun than I expected! It was one of the best experiences.

Do you think that you did not get enough time to prove yourself as a dancer?
No, actually I think I proved myself right from the first episode. I came on the show to break away from my stern image and that mission was accomplished in the first episode. People got a clear picture of what Ram Kapoor is… so, no regrets.

Juhi said that you provided entertainment value to the show. What do you have to say about that?

Yes, that's what I wanted! I wanted to show people the real side of me which is the fun side and I proved that. Now people know me and I am happy with that!

    Were you expecting your elimination?

I think I've survived here for very long. I expected to be eliminated within one month only but I survived for two!

    What went wrong?
As I said earlier, I expected to be evicted much sooner than this. Voting obviously wouldn't have caused any problem but the level of dancing was very high. In fact, I think I was eliminated at the right time because if I continued it would have been very difficult for me.

How did you get along with your choreographer Marischa?
Marischa is very sweet, she has been very cooperative. She would work out moves that weren't difficult for me to carry off.

How much do you miss Jhalak?
I am engaged with some other project so I really don't have much time. But yes, I do miss my gang, as in, my friends. I made some real good friends there whom I miss.

Have you managed to lose some weight?
Yes, I've lost 6-7 kilos (smiles).

How would you now rate yourself as a dancer after these two months?

Earlier I was 2/10 but now I am 5/10. I've really improved dancing wise, thanks to Marischa.

Who do you think deserves to win on Jhalak?
Karan, because he is a very hardworking and a very good dancer.

If given a chance, would you like to reenter through the wildcard entry?
Well… I will be performing for the wildcard episode for which I've already started rehearsing. But I don't think I'll make it as a wildcard entrant.

Kasamh Se has wrapped up and you're done with Jhalak, what's next?
There are many things. Something big is surely happening which you will all come to know of soon. All I can tell you is that it is a very big project and I've begun working on.

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa airs every Friday and Saturday at 9pm on Sony TV.

Tricky time for JDJ 3 contestants!

This week's episode of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3 (Sony TV, Fri-Sat at 9pm) poses even more hurdles for its contestants. They were given tough props of blindfolds and elastic bands to incorporate into their performances.

While some participants amazed, others weren't so lucky on the dance floor. A source from the sets says, "The first contestant who really struggled with the bands was Parul, who is partnered with choreographer Deepak. Parul fumbled with the bands which was visible to the judges. She ended up being the lowest scorer, with 19 points."
Monica Bedi and Baichung Bhutia were the best. The source says, "The way Javed lifted Monica was great. The judges gave him a standing ovation. Monica scored 30. It was also surprising the way Baichung performed blindfolded. Nobody expected him to do such a wonderful samba. He too scored the highest marks and was praised tremendously by the judges."

Meanwhile, Karan's salsa performance was stunning. "He and his choreographer Nicole were both blindfolded but the judges felt that Nicole could see through her blindfold and hence cheated. Nicole tried to explain that she adjusted her blindfold because her lashes were hurting and Karan was ready performed again but the judges reduced their marks anyway," says the source.

Gauhar's luck with choreographers doesn't seem to be good. Her previous choreographer Hanif opted out of the show because he was injured and her new choreographer Himanshu had an accident before their performance and got six stitches on his left knee. The source says, "Even so, he still performed with the Gauhar and was praised for his good effort. Shilpa Shukla and Hard Kaur also performed well."

Next week's episode of Jhalak will feature a wildcard entrant.

    Review: Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3

This week the contestants of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3 were in for a tough performance! The reason: the contestants were required to use two props, a blindfold and elastic bands. Here's a recap into what happened:

    Hard Kaur and Savio
The first performer was the fiery Hard Kaur and Savio. They used the blindfold but that didn't stop them from nailing every move! They performed on the song Bachke Rehna Re Baba. The judges were thrilled with the amount of hard work Hard Kaur put in.
    Score: 28
    Indya Rating: 8.5

    Karan and Nicole
Karan and Nicole did a wonderful salsa using the blindfold. The duo performed to the song Sholon Si Sholon Si from Shabd and looked super doing so. Karan bared his chest and of course, had his killer attitude intact. The chemistry between the two was amazing. However, Juhi and Saroj felt that Nicole cheated and cut their marks.
    Score: 27
    Indya Rating: 9

    Parul and Deepak
Parul chose a very romantic song: Ba Khuda Tum Hi Ho from Kismat Konnection.
They used the concept of the first night after marriage, which was a good choice. However, during the performance, Parul fumbled with the elastic bands and even slipped on the dance floor while doing the lifts. Although the judges called her a good dancer, they were not pleased with the performance. When Deepak saw the score, he was about to breakdown… it was the lowest of the evening.
    Score: 19
    Indya Rating: 6

    Monica and Javed
Once again, their performance turned out to be one of the best! They chose to dance to the song Teri Ore from Singh Is Kinng. Even though Javed's choreography was complicated, the duo managed to pull it off with ease! The final lift, where Javed held Monica with one hand and spun round was simply unbelievable! They were the highest scorers of the evening and even gained Rs.100 from Saroj Khan.
    Score: 30
    Indya Rating: 10

    Baichung and Sonia

These two surprised the judges once again! They used a blindfold as they performed on the song Kisika Ghussa from Taxi No. 9211. Baichung and Sonia were perfectly in sync. They judges were full of praise for them and they too got Rs.100 from Saroj Khan.
    Score: 30
    Indya Rating: 10

    Gauhar and Himanshu

Gahaur and her new choreographer Himanshu had a tough time off screen as Himanshu had an accident prior to the performance and got six stitches on his left knee. However, he decided to still perform to Bahon Ke Darmiyan from Khamoshi. Their dance was brilliant and very well played out by Guacharo.
    Score: 26
    Indya Rating: 8

    Shilpa and Nishant

Shilpa and Nishant did the rumba! And once again they wowed the crowds with their energy and choreography. Nishant did a fabulous job with the elastic bands and their performance was a treat to watch.
    Score: 28 marks.
    Indya Rating: 9

Look out for the next episode on Saturday that will air Jhalak's wildcard entry as well as a special performance.

    Gauhar's out but not down

Gauhar Khan's eviction from Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Sony TV) on Saturday left everyone stunned, but the model-turned-dancer is not fretting- she's confident she'll be back in no time, through the wildcard entry. And next time her fate won't be in the hands of the judges who gave her the boot, but the audience.

GAUHAR says, "I will be away from Jhalak for a very short time. You wait and watch. Everyone will be even more surprised this week!"
The model's run on the show has been plagued by obstacles. She and her intitial choreographer Hanif Hilal could not see eye to eye. He then opted out of the show due to an injury and was replaced by Himanshu Gadani last week. But the duo did not get a chance to prove their mettle as they were eliminated right after their first performance.

Ask Gauhar whether she thinks Hanif is having the last laugh, she says, "I am sure he's not so childish to think like that. But if he is thinking that then he needs to wait and watch. I am hoping and I am quite sure that I'll be back this week."

Gauhar is so convinced of her dancing skills that she says that she will definitely win on Jhalak. She adds, "Luck didn't favour us this time. If Himanshu's elastic bands didn't come off, we wouldn't have been eliminated. If I get back with the wildcard entry, people are going to have to watch out! I participated on the show to prove myself as a dancer and I accomplished that within the episode. Everyone has told me that I am the best dancer on Jhalak."

Last week's episode saw Parul Chauhan with the lowest score of 19. Gauhar was the second from the bottom with 26 points. With such a large difference between their scores, Gauhar was sure that she'd make it through and admits that her elimination came as a shock to her at first. She says, "When Parul and I were in the face off, I was sure that she would get eliminated as there was difference of 7 marks. Unfortunately, Saroj ji and Vaibhavi ji found our choreography weak. I don't want to question their judgments as I respect their point of view."

Catch the wildcard episode of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa this Friday at 9pm on Sony TV.
