Chapter 35
R - Nachiket wake up its 10am. You have to leave in an hour.
N - i hate this post honeymoon working. Its just not fun.
R - get ready fast. Breakfast is ready. I made dosas. Both saas n damad love it right
Nachiket jumped out of the bed.
N - i will be ready in 20 mins
Maa was happy to see Nachiket enjoying his breakfast. She told Ragini to pack some for his lunch.
R - i already did maa
Ragini got a call around 2pm from Nachiket.
N - have you eaten lunch.
R - maa ate. I was just doing some laundry will eat now
N - great! Me too. Come on Skype. Lets have a Skype date.
R - love the idea. Will go in the bedroom. Maa is anyway taking a nap
They ate their lunch talking about random things.
N - by the way the board accepted all my ideas. They rejected Dr. Amans every idea
R - i knew that would happen. He is no competition for you.
N - i still can't believe you agreed to marry him
Ragini became silent. Nachiket realised he shouldnt have said that.
N - i am sorry
R - its ok. I am glad i didn't have to marry him.
N - your ok?
R - i wanted to speak to you about something.
N - i have to go now but i am leaving work by 7pm today. Lets talk after dinner?
R - yes. See you
Nachiket came back exhausted. He ate dinner in a hurry and began working on something important
At 10.30pm Ragini came and slept. She knew Nachiket was very busy so she didn't bother him. In sometime Nachiket came to sleep.
N - are you awake
R - yes
N - you wanted to discuss something. Right?
R - its ok. We can talk tomorrow.
N - no. Tell me now
R - maas health is bad. I was wondering if i should leave the hospital job and stay at home with her. Would you be fine with it?
N - whatever you wish. But we can hire a nurse for her
R - maa wouldnt be comfortable
N - ok. It will mean more lunch skype dates then
R - i will miss working
N - lets speak to maa tomorrow.
The next day maa was not happy at all
M - ragini i am becoming a hinderance to your life
R - no maa. Its till you get better
M - i will be sick as long as i live
R - i will work from home. Take up something new
The doorbell rang. Nachiket opened the door. It was karan and dimpy
D - all ok? You guys look serious
Ragini told dimpy everything.
D - i have a suggestion. Mon - Wed Ragini can work as i will be at home. Thurs - Sun i help at the hotel. Anyways Ragini has the weekend off. So just need to sort out Thursday and Friday. What are neighbours for anyways?
N - sounds good. Let me speak to the management in the hospital. Ragini i will leave now. You guys eat lunch and go. Thanks dimpy. Your always a life saver
D - your always welcome
Nachiket worked it all out. Thursday and Friday Ragini would work from home. Ragini resumed work the following week. But she barely ever met Nachiket even for lunch. He was always busy. They left together in the morning but Ragini would come home early. Nachiket had no fixed time.
After a few weeks Nachiket had a trip to Delhi but Ragini choose to stay back with maa. Ragini was excited as he was going to be back on their one month wedding anniversary. She cooked lunch at 12pm and went to ask Dimpy if they could all go out for dinner to celebrate. The ladies sat to chit chat a bit
D - ragini its 2pm. Nachiket should have landed right.
R - oh. My phone is at home. I will go check. He would have called
Ragini looked for her phone to see if there was a missed call. But there was a message from Nachiket. Her eyes got teary.
"Hi. I got called to a last minute meeting with some medical equipment suppliers. I had to miss my flight to avoid another trip. I will take the first flight out tomorrow. Sorry i couldn't call as i am in a meeting now as well"
Nachiket returned the next day. Ragini could see the exhaustion on his face. She forgot all about her previous days disappointment.
N - please get me medicine. I have a bad headache.
Ragini made him eat and then gave him medicine. Nachiket slept instantly.
A month went by. Ragini had a fever. She didnt tell Nachiket as he had to perform some major surgery. Maa also failed to notice. All of a sudden maa heard some dishes fall. She walked to the kitchen to see Ragini fainted on the floor. Luckily Karan and Dimpy were home.
K - Neil phone kyun nahi utha raha?
M - aaj koi badi surgery hain
D - ragini ko teez bukhar hain. Karan lets take her to the hospital
Ragini was admitted. The nurses said Nachiket would be out in an hour. The doctor told Karan that Ragini had very high fever and she was dehydrated. They were also doing some tests. But for now she was put on drip.
As soon as Nachiket got out of surgery the nurse told him about Ragini. He ran to her.
K - good you came yaar
Nachiket sat besides Ragini. She looked very frail all of a sudden. He touched her cheek and she woke up.
N - its ok. I am here
Ragini smiled
Just then the doctor came back in. He checked Ragini and said she was to go off the drip. He asked her to eat something in an hour. Then medication would be given. He stressed on her eating proper food and asked for another blood test
N - i have been too busy. I should have been there more at home. You haven't been eating well
R - its just the last few days. I didn't feel like eating. Guess it was the fever. I never eat well when i am sickly
After a light lunch Ragini was better. By evening her fever subsided. Doctor came to check on her. It was just Nachiket in the room. All others had left
Dr. - i have your results. You need to eat and be more careful of your health
N - i will take care of that
Dr. - how long have you both been married?
N - two months tomorrow
Dr. - just two months and you are already ignoring your wifes health
Nachiket felt awkward
R - i am not a baby. He can't sit at home and keep track of my every meal
Dr. - you are not a baby. But you are going to have a baby
N & R - what??
Dr. - yes. Your two months pregnant.
Nachiket and Ragini were stunned
Dr. - Ragini didn't you notice you missed your period? Nachiket your a cardiac surgeon. You also failed to notice anything
N - i have been so busy. Last few weeks we barely spoke. Forget all that. Ragini, we are going to be parents
R - it can't be possible. I can't concieve. The doctor told me. You know that doctor. You treated me when i once fell sick at work
Dr. - i said its a rare possibility. Like a point percentage chance. Statistically its as good as no chance. But in the world of miracles thats the only slim chance you need
R - please do another test
Dr. - i did. Remember your second blood test after lunch
N - can we be alone for a bit
Dr. - sure and congratulations!!
As soon as the doctor left nachiket hugged Ragini tight.
N - i love you so much. This is just...
R - what if i can't go through the term keeping the baby safe. I...
N - shhh. You will. This baby was destined to come to us. I will see to it that you are taken care off. I will take time off work.
R - i am scared
N -so am i. But our true love has been blessed. Abhi dikhata hu Karan aur RK ko. Performance anxiety they were taunting me about
R - what?
N - please say you are as excited as i am.
Ragini smiled slowly but she was visibly happy. The doctor called them for a consultation before Ragini was discharged.
Dr. - this file has the dos and donts, diet and other important details. For the next two weeks concentrate on your food. No stress. Then we will schedule a sonography
R - thanks doctor
Dr - any more questions. Nachiket you look confused
N - its obviously a pregnancy we need to take utmost care. Given raginis medical history. But...
Dr. - speak up
N - given her condition what about our physical intimacy. We have a very active sex life untill now
Ragini wanted to vanish at that moment
Dr. - its ok Ragini. He has a valid question. Definately a big no if ragini is tired or unwell. Else a healthy sex life is just fine as long as you are careful
Nachiket smiled while Ragini was red with embarrassment. They left to go home. On the way Nachiket stopped at the temple. They thanked God for the blessing they had received.
They reached home and were in the car
R - Nachiket tomorrow is maas birthday. Lets have a small lunch with Dimpy and Karan. We can call Pam and Rk on Skype. Then we can make the announcement
N - perfect idea. I want to see Karan and Rks faces together
R - what is this all about?
N - will tell you at home.
Once they were home Nachiket saw to it Ragini ate. They were in bed about to sleep.
R - atleast now tell me
Nachiket narrated the incident. Ragini laughed a lot. Nachiket gave her a quick peck on her lips and asked her to sleep.
R - make love to me Nachiket
Nachiket was stunned for a second time in one day
N - ragini i would love to but the doctor said ...
R - i know. But i feel fine now. Please. I know you will be careful.
N - how can i say no to that. But stop me if need be
Nachiket began kissing her. She got rid of his shirt and ran her hand over his torso in a seductive way. Nachiket took it from there. He pleasured Ragini a lot. He was tender when he made love. He ran his hand over her now flat belly and kissed every inch of it. Ragini smiled and pulled him into a hug. They fell asleep immediately
