a young woman came back home alone, late at night. i remember a bengali movie that centred around this very issue, how a girl's life in a conservative society is affected by something as seemingly trivial as this. a very serious movie it was. here, however things got curioser and curioser. a touch of falling through the rabbit whole entered the scene.

payal was angry. why must her sister go to that awful raizada mansion, and what about that condition of not meeting the miserable mr raizada. but what to do, jiji, replied her mud spattered sister, have to work, and if one's work is in the water, one will meet the crocodile (croc, alligator, which one magar machh?), isn't it.

right in the middle of a tense scene, a new monicker for the one i call asr. huh! so what about that tense music. where is all this going?

payal stalked off in anger. khushi pulled up a table and stood on it. asr looked frantic and gorgeous, sitting in his suv, driving around, looking for the one he'd last seen standing in a dark alley, keechad all over her, refusing to get back into the car, unless he said sorry.

"soocide, soocide... gaon walo..."

and so it began, the journey into ajeeb.

it started with a fall into icky slush and we came to the main entrance with a fling of hot tea.

but to get here one had to pass through the hazards of "khushi's-believe-it-or-not game arcade" and the shenanigans of "la la land," plus a little bit of "thief of lucknow" trials set by shyam. the terrain was tricky, laughter could have you rolling on the floor and off your course very easily. you wondered where it would all lead, but you clung on for dear life, sensing something big was on its way.

and in episode 75, it came. ah, that moment. but sorry, i am in a frivolous sanka mood too, and shall only divulge all when we reach 75.

today it's soocide time. and to sweeten death, a pinch of mishri.
i hope dharmendra saw this scene. when sholay was released in the mid seventies, who'd have thought that in the second decade of 2000, more than 35 years later, it would have such resonance with the audience. veeru's "soocide soocide," and "buddi going jail, chakki peesing peesing," empty bottle in hand, atop a tank, drunk, slurring and so very cute became part of our language and shared memory. in it a lightness and froth the years never took away.

writers of ipk, clearly movie buffs, decided to resort to a classic cult scene to start off this super wacky week of ipk. great choice. and really, sanaya was a fabulous veeru. i just wish we had one of those ridiculous asides from the gaonwalo (jiji, buaji, shyam) that went "yeh soocide kya hota hai?" er, what's this soocide? sorry, if you've never seen sholay, the reference wouldn't make sense, but do see this video, might clarify what i mean.

credit: uploader

in the mean time, a man who tends to lose his head, but very often realises soon after that what he did was not right and sets out to correct his mistake, is out on the road, getting more and more worried. where is this girl? fikar not, asr. she is right on top of that table, planning your "jail jaaing." imprisonment. what she doesn't know, of course, is that the deed is already done, and your dil is settling only for life term, it's only your dimaag that struggles for freedom, it knows not why.

"
jiji nahin muskuraai... toh soocide!"

if jiji doesn't smile, she's going to "soocide" and for her "soocide" only one person will be to blame. you, sir. as she threatened calamity, and her dhanno (the ox, or was it cow?) bua and thakur snake walked into scene, but off camera, a car pulled up smoothly outside in the dark, to come and halt quietly by the gupta's little home. in complete counterpoint to the noise and jollity indoors, a silence, an intensity in this frame. a darkened glass rolled down, a still face turned in the direction of the light, saw the girl framed by the parallel window grills, a bit prison like they, and his eyes said things that no scriptwriter could have written down.

an ocean of yearning in just a second. flowed out and enveloped all. surprising perhaps even the owner of those brown orbs. little did he realise how extremely worried he was. or perhaps even ashamed at his behaviour.

"yeh jo asr hai na, woh bhagwaan mein vishwas nahin karte..." this aspect of asr, his not believing in god really troubles khushi. she genuinely does not get it. for her this is sacrosanct, how can anyone not be part of this idea? yet, interestingly, love will some day make her understand that too, just as it will make him accept that she is just perfect as she is, however different from him that may be.

"gussa toh aise karte hain jaise saans le rahe ho."
his anger is really an issue. repeatedly, in the early months this was hinted at. the whole thing is possibly related to his dad in some way too. however, at one point, the writers let this theme go without explanation. pity. right now, we see the return of his nostril flaring gussa. after the initial flooding of relief, again the temper, possibly a weapon to save him from all hurt.

"saza sunate hain...
arnav singh raizada, tu jail mein jaaing aur chakki peesing
tu khushi kumari gupta ko tadpaing aur chakki peesing
chakki peesing aur peesing aur... hic"

here's the sentence... arnav singh raizada, you going jail and mill grinding...
you making khushi kumari gupta unhappy and mill grinding...
mill grinding and mill grinding... hic

on that pretend hiccup rose the gust of wind. a turmoil, a return yearning filled her insides, her eyes looked around. is he here? is he here? two hearts had a conversation. the owners of the hearts never listened. maybe because the time was not yet right. maybe all love stories go this way, who knows. first an emotion finds itself under cover, outside the five senses, in some meeting of instincts, of hearts, then along the way we pick up the signals. this may sound a bit khushi ott, but if there were no mystery to the rise and claim of this feeling why would we waste centuries pondering it, writing and thinking and cogitating about it, and still remain pretty much mystified?

pyaar, love, the ultimate game centre really, completely ajeeb.

words from a very old hindi movie come to mind:
ajeeb dastaan hai yeh
kahan shuru, kahan khatam
yeh manzilen hain pyaar ki
na woh samajh sakein na hum

a strange tale is this
where does it start where it ends
what are these turns and passes
neither he understood nor i

a loose translation. the word love never figures, yet that's what it really is about.

the curtain flutters, an unguarded innocence in his eyes, the same wanting, camera closes in, i felt he wanted to come close and just inhale her air.

she sees jiji smiling. back to normal... "arree hasi toh fassi." you smile, you're trapped. how that came back to me in 75.

he watches, returns home to anger... the glass rolls up, his eyes still on her. he drives off, she turns almost catching sight of his car. feelings assail her.

khushi had resorted to her favourite tactic to restore calm and peace to her loved ones. clowning around. but when she sat outside, under the stars where her parents watched over her, the hurt of the day couldn't be denied. somehow growing up was taking a toll on this clear eyed 18 year old. she'd met a man who'd made her aware that money has an authority, power in this world. her days of thinking that her little piggy bank could buy her the whole wide world are over. all of us at some point go through this realisation, and just like the many hard realities of this life, it's never easy. her teacher had not even been too kind in his methods, constantly throwing her lack of wealth on her face, calling her a gold digger and worse. but she was a tough cookie, firm in her vishwaas, she would teach that laad governor a lesson herself.

no wilting lily our lissome lovely maid. fiesty, nutty, and full of tricks. and in these matters, quite slippery before conscience too, having quick conversations with dm where she makes it a point to let the eternal know, it's not her fault at all, if someone treats her badly, gotta do something about it.

i kind of like this spirit. no crying and cringing and giving in to fate for madam kkg, she in her own way is willing to take responsibility of her own fate. just that she needs to know dm is with her. again a maker of her life, like the angry young man, sorry magar machh.

next morning, a happy consultation with happyji (a character i rather like, a most interesting and sweet actor we have in him), and she mounts the mishri attack. so sugar in the petrol tank stalls the engine. i learn new things every day. khushi keeps doing not quite above board things this point on and makes excuses for herself as i said earlier. interesting, shyam uses a similar tactic, he is doing terrible things to everyone but he doesn't really mean to. why is it that i am willing to overlook khushi's games but not shyam's?

"hume gaadi se utara tha," you threw me out of the car, with a little moue and a sashay, she gets set to take revenge on asr. and this brings me to the other thing related to her doing wrong things. it's only when it comes to asr that khushi is willing to cross a line and play nasty. is this too a sign of love? ajeeb.

she has another agenda today, teach la the importance of marriage. can't say i agree with the bulldozing of others opinions and thoughts, but well this is kkg in a certain mood and the games are on, no point resisting, just give in and rofl. see you soon with 73 to 77.

i loved the suicide scene!!!! and the best part was that arnav heard it all and cannot do anything about it!!!

payal is just mad because khushi is continuing to work there after what la did...i would be mad too if i was payal

and the pranks khushi will play on arnav...just wait and watch

may you get the weekend you wish for. nothing like a little getaway with asr.

Bang on about lack of that one flashback! at first i thought they made a mistake, but then it was like they couldn't have, the flashback are so well thought out it this show...so i'm discovering this second time around. that glow on her face had too much to do with that moment...it was right before she was leaving to go home too, imagine her car ride home? reliving it over and over and over😆

"getaway with ASR?" you make it sound ever better !

Arshi, I just peeped into SC a few times, it isn't that bad, there are some good senior actors in it. But, I just didn't feel like watching another drama, and also since the story is known, it's another minus point. I've been watching TV serials for more than 25 years now, ya since my school days. There's always been some or the other drama that I would follow. This is the first time I don't feel like watching a drama. Am I done with watching serials? I don't know. Maybe, I will eventually start again, but this time it is going to take a long long time. All because of the magic of IPK.

Totally agreed with you Durga after watching IPK nothing come close but unlike you this was the only show I watched after 18 years so you can imagine.I want versatility and everything in different taste can't stick to one thing. If IPK was simple love story then may be couldn't click to me the way it did but there is a lot to offer in this serial as you can see from my analysis.SC as you said we know the story and the movie so forget it.Not going to happen.😊

Episodes72-73: Order&Chaos

Ever since, Khushi Kumari Gupta has crash-landed into his arms, Arnav Singh Raizada's orderly life has turned into chaos, some like me would argue beautiful chaos, he would later agree with me but for now, he tries everyday to rebuild himself from the earth quake she caused within him. Only problem is seeing her on a daily basis is already starting to take its toll. Ami I also agree with you now he just cant cope with it and shouting at all doing things he never did.😆 what pictures had to stop some minutes drooling before going ahead

He was in utter chaos at the beginning of 72 searching for Khushi after their big fight till he finally catches a glimpse driving by the GH. First he breathes a big sigh of relief, second, he tries to fathom what he sees...She's on top of a table...acting like she's drunk? he opens his window to get a better look.

One of the most gorgeous things about this scene is that Arnav gets to see the Gupta family's Khushi, not the Khushi always on guard with him around, not the feisty one that only he gets to see, here its Khushi as she is, chirpy, funny, lively the pride of the family who everyone turns to...

very creatively might i add. The only one to know what she just went though, he must've realize when he drove away that she

put herself on the back burner just to put a smile on her sister's face.

another layer peeled to push him further into the well of her love.

Khushi's reason for this act however is to put a smile on her sister who she disappointed by refusing to quit working for this Magarmachh (Crockidile) even after so much humiliation...If Payal found out what ASR did tonight, she would make Khushi quit and start packing for Lucknow. maybe that's why Khushi kept mum about it. She know she can't quit for various reasons, money problems, contract, and an unknown attraction towards a certain someone she keeps fighting with...BUT for now, for her main goal: make Payal smile

What better way than to recreate one of the funniest scenes from the most famous Hindi movie ever and possibly make an even funnier scene? In true Khushi Kumaari Gupta style ofcourse, a water bottle replaces Dhramendra's beer, a table top acts as a water tower, complete with Thakur and Dhano as spectators. The dialogues craft fully translated over to fit Khushi's sceen, Sanaya at her comedy best.

"Suicide! suicide!"

Arnav pulls up just as she screams his name "Arnav Singh Raizada!" blaming him if "jiji nahi muskurai? (If Paya doesn't smile) and for her "suicide" that would follow

She has Arnav's attentions. " gussa to aise karte hai jaise saans le rahe ho!"

Truely a convincing fake drunk, Khushi lets out some of things that really bother her about him and some that leave her hurt. Outside Arnav knows she's right, a bit hurt, he looks away. Khushi continues her drama-baazi, she wants to get straight to his punishment, that dream she spills into reality. Arnav keenly awaits to hear his sentence... 😆😆 why from a chit of a choti aukat girl 😉 yeh kya baat huyi

"Arnav Singh Raizada, tu jail mei jaaying, aur chakki peicing, tu Khushi Kumari Gupta ko tadpaying to chakki peicingt, u jiji ko rulying, to aut bhi chakki piecing picing aur picing" Our clumsy Khushi doesn't need to be really drunk to stumble almost off the table, Arnav again relieved as Payal "sambhaals " Khushi on his behalf...awww he has no control over how much he cares for her, even when she's pretend- punishing him.

"Arnav Singh Raizada, suit boot mein chakki piecing aur piecing aur peicing"🤣 getting carried away with this image she's having too much fun swaying her hips, moving her arms in a round motion imitating"chakki piecing" when suddenly

* BURP!* she freezes...with his cool breezy presence...in the car, he is intrigued with her sudden stop, as the moment passes by he realizes the "mehsoos" is not limited to him, and one day under the influence of some bhaang he will explain to her of this magnificent magical bond. loved the comparision😳 and picture

"Jo tum mehsoos karti ho, jo mein mehsoos karta hu..." Happy belated holi week all! Holi is on 27th not the IPKKND one😉

Khushi's trans is broken by Payal's smile "Arre, hassi toh fasi! (if she laughs, she's fell for the trap)" ..a line from another epic movie

Arnav understood her need to make her sister happy That why he looks touched by all Khushi did to make Payal smile... till he realized it was at his expense, the anger returns but for now at least the order in the chaos was back, he closes his window and drives off, Khushi turns around when she feels the "mehsoos" slipping away, she sees the back of his SUV,

Is she still confused about this feeling? Does she know it was him? regardless, her revenge plans the next morning indicate she still holds a grudge against the Laad governor. Chaos in Arnav's life won't stay internal anymore, Khushi is bringing it everywhere with the "nat-ghat'ness that Krishna seems to have left behind.

IMO its the start of her best seller "Arnav Singh Raizada to satane ke 100 tarike"(!00 ways to irritate ASR)

Her first bout of revenge with Happy ji's help, and mishri (sugar) she disables his mode of transportation. Arnav and Akaash walk out just as she unloads some sweetness into his car. He feels her but doesn't see her anywhere, she hides behind the SUV. Hats off to the makers for keeping the "mehsoos" relevant they could'be easily forgotten.

Arnav tries to start the suv,. "Aw hell (SEXYEmbarrassed), yeh meeting bhi aaj hi honi thi." A few close calls, but Khushi manages to escape his eyes.

Arnav is forced to move the meeting at the RM. Happy with the fact that 1 out of the 2 things set out to do has been started. Started? she's just getting started? "uss laad governer ko to hum accha sabak sikhayenge.(gonaa teach that LG a goo lesson!)" there is more to come of this revenge thing. as for the second thing on her "To do" -- teach La the importance of marriage and all its glory.

Khushi tries to explain right to sindoor of a married woman and Anjali agrees with Khushi about the sindoor but unknowingly reminds her of a certain "sindoori" moment

Loved the transition how Arnav comes in when Khushi was thinking of him and all that sindoor. He notifies Di that he's having clients over...his last words "kuch gadbad nahi honi chahiye (nothing should go wrong)" which Khushi translates into "gadbad honi chahiye (something must go wrong)" Gadbad to hogi hi

she sneaks into his room with Laxmi and changes his ring tone...another close call when Arnav steps out his bathroom, while she's still there...he questions why she;s inn his room, Laxmi is the perfect excuse for everyone to barge into his room, first it was Nani on the night La snuk into his room and now...its Khushi..yay for Laxmi!

Arnav is in his meeting when he yells at someone for not silencing their phone...The "outgoing" Khushi excuses herself from teaching and executes part 2 of her revenge, she dials Arnav's number (she knew it by heart...wah!) just as Arnav requests his clients to put their phone on silent, a phone goes off...a lively fun desi number better to dance with,

Arnav looks at all the clients, all looking back at him while the song plays loud to Khushi's content "naam Jilebi baai!"...She dances her heart out while Arnav is embarrassed to find it was his phone.🤣

Priceless expressions from Barun...after the clients leave he goes to ask Di if she called him. not her. it was a home number...who could it be?? "Jilebi baai", think Harvard think!! Anjali asks whose phone was that? we could hear it all the way here. "woh mera phone tha di" he says in all seriousness...dramatic music changed to light and funny when all the women start laughing at him.

"its not funny" he wants to find out who changed the ring tone...Nani jumps in "why don't you ask Ms.Kashyap? she is sometimes roams around your room at night"🤣 Arnav is relentless, till Anjali tell him to let it go. Between Nani and Anjali, were truly Khushi's guardians knowingly or unknowingly.

Is that enough dose of chaos for ASR iin one day? nah after all revenge is a glass best served cold... of cold mango juice that is. Khushi is seen leaving Arnav's room, mocking his macho sexy walk. He even runs into her going upstairs

but surely other thoughts run through him when he sees her, no room for suspecting her of tampering with his things. At the dining table everyone is getting ready for lunch when they hear

"squish .squish. squish. squish. squish..."

they look up, it seems to be coming from Arnav who is busy yelling at someone on the phone while walking toward the table. they look down to see some liquid falling out his shoes. love the playful music here. Again a priceless expressions on Arnav when he realized what everyone is staring and "mehsoosing" that cold, wet, sticky liquid on his feet.

Mami get the best line award here "Ka baat hai Arnav Bitwa? Joota itna angeriya ke pehne ki jute ka jiuce hi nikkal giya?"(Why Arnav Bitwa, you wore the shoes in such anger that the juice came out) Khushi beams with her created situation.😆😆

Anjali asks what this is, and Mami hints at what it could be, "raat ko juta baathroom mein chhod aaye the kaa? (did you leave the shoes in the bathroom last night?)" more laughing while Arnav tries to figure it out "pata nahi kya lag gaya?" Jay Prakash sheds some prakash on this "It's juice"

"mango juice" Arnav corrects...he wonders how it got there, his childhood habit once again mentioned by Anjali this time... for a second Khushi feels slightly bad for embarrassing him before breaking into a big laugh. She get a special angry look from Arnav, he looks around to everyone laughing at him, only Khushi can turn ASR into a laughing stock in a day...he was just leaving when mami sets khushi up for another joke "Mango juice maami, aap lengi?(want some?)" garnering even bigger laughs. Di's and Mami's jokes, he let slide, but Khushi joke got under his skin, "very funny!" ... he storms out of there, La's apology didn't even help.

Back in his room, that problem solving orderly brain of his doesn't want to rest till he figures out the cause of so much chaos in one day. "ye juice in shoes mein gira kaise?" (how did the juice get into the shoes?), he spots his cell phone his other embarrassment of the day "Shayad vaise hi jaise mere phone ki ring tone change ho gayee thi...ek hi din mein yeh dono cheezien" (maybe just how my ring tone got change, two things in one day)

he drops the phone and spots a sugar cube she fed to his car this morning, about throw it out Akash walks in, and tells him something "ajeeb" wierd, "he found sugar cube"..."What?" suddenly all the pieces come together. "Khushi Kumaari Gupta!" is behind all this. Again her "aukaad" status needs to be added to the equation to deal with his hurt ego and to deal with the new found chaos, he wasn't his order back ...Khushi seems to have forgotten about the 2nd grave when one plots for this revenge...oh no, he's coming for you Khushi!!!

Khushi spots Lakshmi on the road, eating some leaves. She runs and picks up Lakshmi before she can run away. Khushi begins lecturing Lakshmi. Khushi starts the trek home

Anjali gets off the phone happily, and Mami notes the happiness. Anjali moves off to get the necklace, and Mami decides to leave as well. She mentions for Lavanya to leave as well. Nani is petting "laxmi" when she notices a patch. She rubs the goat, and a powdery substance coats her fingers.
"Miss Kashyap!" Mami & Lavanya are caught. They turn around
.

In her bedroom, Anjali is looking for the certain necklace. She opens the case, but hearing Nani's yells, doesn't make notice that the case is empty. She throws the case on the bed, rushing towards Nani. not realising her phone is ringing either (of course shyam is calling for the 100th time asking if she wore that necklace)

Back in Nani's room, Nani is yelling at Lavanya & Mami. She is not old that she wouldn't realise that this wasn't Lakshmi. She knew Lavanya has a loose character, but to stoop this low? Anjali comes in, and Mami tells Anjali that Nani seems to think that the goat isn't Lakshmi. Before Nani can go any further, Jai Prakash comes in and says that Lakshmi's here. Nani says that this isn't Lakshmi, but Jai Prakash says that Lakshmi is here. Turns out she is here. Nani lets the other goat go, and quickly embraces her Lakshmi. Khushi walks in silently behind the goat. Nani turns to Lavanya and says that she hopes Lavanya realises the difference between herself & Khushi. Lavanya lied, and brought in a different goat, whereas Khushi dutifully looked for Lakshmi. But before Nani can humiliate Lavanya any further, Khushi stops her, and says that it was her fault. Khushi is the one who said to bring in another goat until Lakshmi could be found. Lavanya said not to, but Khushi was adamant that this was the right thing to do. (khushi is such a nice person still helping la after all she did to her). Everyone is shocked and so am i. Nani is upset, and asks for everyone to leave. Mami & Lavanya leave straightaway, and Anjali follows. Khushi looks down, and gets up to leave and then Nani stops her. Nani says that she doesn't like liars, and she never expected Khushi to turn out to be one. Khushi apologises, but Nani isn't referring to her lie about the goat switching. Nani is referring to Khushi saving Lavanya from humiliation. Khushi stays silent. (Nani is one smart cookie)👏

Outside the room, Mami refers to the incident as being something out of a horror film. She needs tea sent to her room, and Anjali says she'll get it done. Mami walks off following Anjali. Lavanya is standing there when Khushi comes out quietly. She sees Lavanya, but says nothing. Lavanya calls out for her, and asks Khushi why she did what she did. Khushi says that it's her job to make Lavanya into someone that Nani can appreciate, and so that her & Arnav won't have to leave the house. Arnav is standing there listening. (I bet arnav is proud that he cares so much for his family's happiness). Lavanya is shocked, and decides to call Khushi by her name. She holds out her hand, and Khushi shakes it. She tells Lavanya that now they're friends, Lavanya can call her whatever she wants. Lavanya smiles, and getting a phone call, she leaves. (time for awesome La to enter)

Khushi turns the other way and sees Arnav. RAABA VEY, before Khushi notices the blemish on Arnav's face. She points towards it, and Arnav doesn't know what she means. She finally says that there's something on his cheek. He rubs it silently when Lavanya comes and rubs it for him. Khushi walks away, looking back at the couple thoughtfully. (khushi seems a little jealous to me) and she cant understand why she is feeling so Arnav also seems to be watching only her reaction.

In the background, Lakshmi is in Khushi's bag. (I hope she finds the necklace)

Back in her room, Anjali notices her husband calling repeatedly. She picks it up, and apologises for not answering and said she got caught up with Nani's issues. He asks her if she's worn the necklace yet, and she smiles. She turns to the case on the bed and opens it. She's shocked. She begins tearing up, and saying that the necklace isn't there. She's upset, but he's smirking. Hanging up, the he asks Khushi for forgiveness for committing such an act but it was necessary (ugh I hate this man) me tooo

Anjali is frantically looking for the necklace, so much so that she walks outside, and Mami finds out. Everyone starts getting worried, and turns the house upside down in haste to find the necklace. Finally, Nani comes and asks what's going on. Mami says that Anjali lost her necklace, and so the last place to look is in Khushi's bag.

Meanwhile the snake is still standing outside smirking, and decides to call Anjali again, murmuring that they should have found the necklace in Khushi's bag by now. But before he can call, he hears Bua lugging up groceries. He slips into his sweet self, and helps Bua. He tells her that she should have told him to get the stuff, but Bua waves it off. She then sees his smirk, and wonders why he's smiling so. He turns and says that today is a good day for him. Man proposes DM disposes😉😆

Back at RM, everyone looks expectantly at Khushi. She willingly opens her bag and sets each item out on the coffee table. She removes the last of the items, and continues rummaging around in her bag, saying there's nothing there' but she stops suddenly. What did khushi find in her purse???????
