So a lot of people do appreciate him for wanting to do something different and break away from the normal.

True! I was only referring to his own comments about his decision in one of his radio interview where he first time announced he was leaving the show and don't know how many would be his fans after the decision!!

Anyways if people want to find negatives they will find a dozen; if one looks for positives they will find a million.

@Bold: Very well written original post. But this is NOT the first time he credited BHPH for honing his acting skills and affirming it to be the closest to his heart. He has been doing it since last summer when these interviews started pouring, so doubtful if he is deliberately distancing from IPK/ ASR due to the unfortunate developments towards the end. And for die hard fan of IPK and ASR it hurts... it immensely hurts to hear that from a guy who's art is admired for several months that he did it only as a 9-5 job but felt nothing for it!!
The role of SRK in Kabhi haan Kabhi naa is actually good. Although hugely popular, Rahuls/ Rajs didn't have much scope except to romance around heriones. So if he says that it is the former closest to his heart, I certainly understand that. No offence to any BHPH fans, but even if the fame and popularity are kept aide and only the characters are compared per se. comparing Shravan and ASR and saying the former is close to his heart from a guy who apparently thrives for creative satisfaction and who's idols are the likes of Aamir Khan and Saif in Omkara is indeed disheartening to the least!!!
If we can't judge him for the comments he made, we can't judge him for the comments he didn't make either that IPK/ASR does matter to him! So, untill the day he openly conveys gratitude towards IPK/ ASR, I remain, neither a fan nor a basher but an extremely disappointed viewer!!

@bold - I respectfully disagree with what you said there. I have read all his interviews and he did not say anything that would mean that IPK and ASR meant nothing to him. If you admired his art for several months, then it means that you were moved by his performance. This can be accomplished only by a passionate and dedicated actor who is very honest about his work. If the role did not mean anything to him beyond a 9-5 job, then he would have not been able to do such an outstanding job as ASR. If this were the case, he would have given mediocre performance and ASR would not have been so popular. So it is unfair to say that the role meant nothing to him.
I think Barun gave his 100% to ASR and took the role very seriously. What got to him was the gruelling hours and monotony which is the basic problem with daily soaps production. Actor's POV is always different from a viewer's POV.
He has shown gratitude towards IPK team many times. He did it even in the last interview where he thanked the writers and acknowledged that IPK is the biggest thing that has happened to him. But since he has been bashed a lot for his decision to leave the show, I think that is why we see him trying to justify why he took the decision in every interview. I think he does not need to justify anything. It is his decision, and as fans of the show, we should cherish what he, Sanaya and the rest of the IPK team gave us instead of giving more importance to the offscreen stuff.

Thanks for the inputs. Agree, he did n't say those words explicitly. But these comments of mine are not a result of reading him just once but a cumulative effect of reading his views for the past several months. The first time I heard him say Shravan meant more to him than ASR was last summer. Irony is, that time when one of my friends got offended, I exactly told her what you post says now! Over a period of time his reiteration of the same just got on to me that I perfectly identify now with what my friend felt months ago! Here are his comments:"BS: Ummm...I don't know. Career wise, I might be in a better position to answer that question a year from now. However, if you talk about numbers then yes, IPKKND is the biggest show I have been a part of. It was a massive production and I received so much love and appreciation from the viewers. So in those terms'yes, this was a huge show for me

if I had to pick one, I would pick Shravan's character from Baat Humaari Pakki Hai. It's not that I identify with Shravan the most but I just loved that show. Baat was a memorable experience for me."

Yes, he didn't exactly say IPK meant nothing to him, but something on those lines! Remember the scene last year around this time, where ASR finds Khushi at the chanawala where she asks him "aapko kya farq padtha hai".. then ASR said "Ofcousre farq padtha hai dammit"! We all LOVED that scene! Instead, what if ASR said "OK, if you take the numbers, Yes, Khushi is the one whom I looked most, the one whose hand I held most, but it was always Lavanya who is close to my heart as she is the first official girl friend in my life"..I felt that way whenever he said number wise IPK is big, but BHPH is the one close to his heart!

I have no issues with his leaving the show as it is his life and his prerogative! I only wish he celebrates his association with IPK and ASR more as it indeed is a turning point for him otherwise all these journalists wouldn't be chasing him for interviews! I have leant my lessons not to read any more interviews from any IPK team members so that this off screen demons leave my head!

I appreciate your POV; let's look at this from Barun's POV though; I have not watched Baat so cannot comment on that or his performance there but maybe the role is dear to him because it was his first lead role. He does say in his interview that he was nervous before the show started but was happy that things went well. It seemed like a well rounded role; it probably gave him a chance to explore his acting capabilities and become a more confident performer. Plus that was the role that gave him his initial recognition and got him the role of ASR.
IPK got to a point where directors, cast and script writers quit. LM in his interview too sounded quite disappointed with the way IPK turned out n he too quit due to creative dissatisfaction. Maybe there was a major change in script per audience/channel demand that Barun too was disappointed with and reduced the scope of ASR's portrayal for him. Yes as an audience we loved the rabba ve and ASR's anger but maybe as an actor that got monotonous for him after sometime.
What works for a viewer may not always work for the actor. He gave ASR his best, brought the character to life brilliantly so he obviously loved the role but maybe somewhere down the line behind the scene things happened that made him lose interest. Barun has always said that IPK got him a huge fan following for which he is ever grateful.
I have loved ASR like no fictional character before, but I can appreciate Barun for the brilliance he brought to the role. Now that the show is over I am glad to have discovered Barun and Sanaya and I eagerly await their future projects.

Horizon, Like you I too have the same opinion. I do find Barun disowning the character saying the charcater was written very well and anyone could have played him, I wanted to leave in Feb ( when the show was at its peak ) , i learnt acting from my previous roles as if to say the ASR is not the reason what he is today.
whatver his reasons, to me it seems a very disheartning and even ungrateful for the brillaint oppertunity he had and the fame it gave him.
I like you want to hear from him that this role was the one which bought himn the film and recognition in the industry and what he learny in the 18 months which he is trying to downplay..
Folks who will go to see his movie are the people who know him as Asr and not sure about Shravan fans.

@ Premparbat/ Horizon:
I can understand where you are coming from and i respect your opinion as everyone is entitled to an opinion.
Yes i am sure that most people who go to see his movie will be those who loved him as ASR; infact both PH's of the movies have said that they saw him in IPK and selected him. Same way the IPK team probably probably selected him because they saw his acting capabilities in Baat.
I just feel it is unfair to have such high expectations of an actor that if in any way his statement disappoints us we are ready to jump down his throat and call him arrogant/ ungrateful and forget his hard work and talent that entertained us for so long.
Ever heard of a scenario when expectations from something become so high that a person prefers not to associate further with it. If you read Barun's recent interviews there is a very distinct feeling that he was under a lot of pressure to stay with the show, to do what was expected of him, to stay under the ASR aura forever. He chooses to do differently and i can respect and accept that.
Through his 18 month association with IPK he has many times acknowledged the team, the writers, the off-screen bonding, the appreciation from fans as well as the great time he had on the show, which i think clearly shows what IPK means to him. Anyone would be a little bitter after the way things have played out due to the show closure which he did not want or anticipate, i'm sure as time heals his hurt he will be more verbal in his appreciation of ASR.
