One of the shittest pieces I've written. It's not my style so bear with me here.
Read at your own risk.
Belli this one's for you because despite all my convincing, you stood by your belief that I could actually write it and complete it. I love you for everything. 🤗
"Our Forever"
Life has been pretty much lonely since she left. He knew it was for the best but he just couldn't cope with the loss of happiness in his life. His Khushi.
The night that was supposed to a night of new promises, new dreams, new vows... The night that was supposed to mark the start of their life together turned out to be the day the separated forever.
Chotte I can't live without him.
Is this girl really more important than your sister who gave up her childhood to become your mother, your father?
Titaliya cannot stay under the same roof as this man.
Chotte I need you to be here with me forever.
He shut his eyes tightly, the same way he did that unfortunate day. And the last few words she said to him came back.
Our love only destroys. It's best I leave. Away from all of you.
Forever.
His eyes flew open. He should have stopped her. He should have fought for his love. He should have made his sister stronger. He should've done something, anything, but he shouldn't have let her go.
But the truth of today is that he is a 35 year old lonely man whose life was in ruins.
All that happened was Di being forced to move on the hard way.
And this time, it wasn't someone who they could scapegoat for all of their problems. This time it wasn't someone who gave a shit about Anjali. This time, it was a pregnant woman with a 11 year old son. The bas***d's first wife.
So he did cheat, but not on Anjali. But on his own wife. Leaving both the woman that loved him dearly impregnated and an unfortunate child with his genes.
Dadi realized that opening your eyes to the truth was indeed an important skill in life. Till her deathbed, she waited for her to come back, in hopes that begging her for forgiveness would lessen somewhat of the burden she would take with her,
To hell.
So was letting her go really worth it? He cursed himself in his every breath for being a week fool who couldn't fight the most important battle in his life.
He was an idiot, for not knowing his priorities. For letting go of the one woman who made him feel alive again.
The one person whom made him feel that Kuch Kuch. The friend, the lover, the nemesis, name it and she had become it all just for him.
He could go on and on but he needed to be somewhere now. Wiping the tears with his hanky, he picked up his phone.
"Yeah Akash, what's the name hospital was it again?"
"Hackensack University Medical Center! Room Number 606. Get here now!"
"Alright, alright, be there in a few."
At least someone was getting a fair amount of happiness. Payal was due today. A cute little baby Akash or Payal was about to enter this world. Khushi would have been overjoyed.

He was waiting for an elevator, flowers and balloons in his hand. It had been almost 5 minutes. Either this elevator was really slow or this hospital, really busy.
He was about to take the stairs when the elevator arrived.
Anxiously waiting for the people to make their way out he saw a nurse strolling a familiar face out.
"I'm cold." it spoke to the nurse as it was being strolled away from him.
The flowers fell out of his hands the balloons rose up to the roof of the hall.
That. Was.
Before he could complete his thought, the soul of a heartbroken and desperate lover took control of his legs and he dashed through the hall following the nurse into the room freezing the owner of the familiar voice with his gaze.
"Khushi," was all he could manage out from his throat that started to dry.
She sat there lifeless on a wheelchair, the glow that her face used to have clearly gone, body weak, face scarred with dried up tears that were only visible to him.
She was as good as a living corpse. A living corspe who filled her maang with sindoor and adorned her neck with her mangalsutra.
"Arnav...", She looked so tired, it seemed her face would crack into pieces if she tried to smile.
The nurse was about to help her on the bed when Arnav stopped her.
"I'll take it from here, thank you."
And with that he lifted her gently to the bed.
They spent what felt like eternity taking each other's presence in.
Her hand made its way to caress his cheek. He savored the feel of her touch, that filled him with the warmth he'd missed for so many lonely years.
She looked so weak. What happened to her? Why was she here?
Khushi's lips parted to speak but he quieted her before she had a chance.
"Shh..." He held her hand close to his cheek kissing it occasionally.
"We're together." He said with a broken voice. "That's all that matters."
"Excuse me sir, the doctor is here and would like to speak to the patient, could you please step out." the nurse broke the moment.
"It's ok... He's my husband." She informed her.
"Alright I'll send the doctor in." Said the nurse tears welling up in her eyes. She put a reassuring arm on his shoulder, "Take care."
He sensed that the nurse knew something he didn't.
"Hello Mrs. Raizada." The doctor walked in, some papers in her hands.
"Hello, Dr. Sharma." Khushi managed out between coughs.
"Please, don't take the trouble to speak. I see you have a visitor today."
"Yes I am her husband."
"If you don't mind, may I please speak to you, outside."
"Sure." he followed the doctor out into the hallway.
"I am really happy you showed up today. Because I couldn't find the courage to tell your wife myself. It's good she has someone with her right now. And stay strong,"
"What? What do you mean 'stay strong'?" He asked utterly confused.
"You don't know do you?" Dr. Sharma sighed.
"Know what?"
"That your wife has been diagnosed with lung cancer. She has been diagnosed for over 4 years. She has stage IV Lung Cancer. Her condition has been worsening over the past month, especially over this past week. We don't know when she will breathe her last breath. It could be today, it could be a week from now but all we know is that she is dying."
The world seemed to stop spinning for a moment. He felt lightheaded. His heart felt heavy. He body felt like it was suffocating. All that made sense to him was Khushi was leaving. Him. Forever. And this time, despite wanting to stop her, he couldn't.
"Stay strong." The doctor gave him a reassuring squeeze before leaving.
Arnav walked into the room and looked at Khushi as if he'd seen a ghost. "K-k-kh-khushi..." was all he could manage before the dam of tears broke loose.
"Arnav, please leave." She spoke breathing heavily from lack of breath.
"Khushi, I'm sorry. For everything. I've been horrible to you, I've been the worst lover that ever walked the planet, I've only caused you pain, It's all my fault. Don't forgive me, but please Khushi, don't leave me." He said the words that he should have said 7 years ago. Only this time, they were pointless.
"Arnav, you were the best thing that ever happened to me." She said her face forming what looked like a smile.
He cradled her face in his large hands, placing wet kisses all over her face, ending with a long overdue kiss on her petite lips.
He kissed her lips again and again, refusing to break it off. Fulfilling all of his desires with that one kiss. Showing all the love that he held inside with that one kiss. Crying his heart out with that one kiss. Making up for all that they missed out on with that one kiss.
He finally broke it off realizing that she panting for breath. It killed him to see her like this.
"Arnav I want you to be happy forever. Don't limit yourself to me. Be happy, forget me. Leave now, please..." she whimpered.
And then she went off on a coughing fit.
For a moment he just stared at her, eyes glistening with another set of tears ready to fall, trying desperately to reach the water that was on the table.
He realized that this was it. Sooner or later, she was going to leave him.
With a sad smile, he brought the water up to her, helping her drink it.
He saw a large window at the back of the room. Walking over to it absentmindedly, he opened it up, fast cool winds taking over the room.
"Arnav? What are you doing? It's cold in here!"
He picked her up determinedly. "Khushi, I can never be happy without you. My heart beats for you and aur tumhare bina, meri saanse ruk jayegi."
He walked them over to the window, looking down.
"Arnav don't do this. There are so many people that love you and need you. Think about them Arnav."
"What about me Khushi? For once I'm going to think about myself. I love you, and I need you. And without you Khushi, there is no Arnav." He looked deep into her brown innocent eyes.
"Arnav," she smiled "Hum bhi aapse I love you dammit." She said, her voice reflecting the same childlike innocence it did 7 years ago.
She smiled gave him a nod.
He held onto her tightly. "I love you Khushi. More than anything else in the world. And now, we'll be together, forever."
With those last few words, the two lovers gave up their lives for a "forever" together.
In Arnav and Khushi's case, it was "Till death do them, together."
