Some 'bashings' for IPKKND - a wake up call

The downward spiral has finally been achieved, just like every other soap that started out with a promise. No, it has nothing to do with Barun's leave and everything to do with the awful writing (once good and credited for its success). I like Barun and Sanaya's work and that it why I have spent some 25000 posts on this forum but I never pledged to love this show through thick and thin. I am a well-wishing viewer who expects better of IPKKND's CVs, so yes, I will absolutely criticize ("bash").

Here's why...

Once upon a time it was an intense love story, now it is a Bubbly track with Mami's not so comic waste of time on figuring out the culprit.

Once upon a time, it revealed small misunderstandings right away (e.g. the older Lavanya misunderstanding with Nani), now it spends an entire week on Mami asking why did Bubbbly cut the pictures and making diagrams on a blackboard.

Now it add news useless characters when exisiting characters like Mamaji and the Gupta family (particularly Babuji's character) never has any screen time.

Once the story moved, now the CVs try to juice the same misunderstandings over months. Ususally many successful soaps try to ride the wave and think dragging will keep the viewers and think that moing the story will give away all the mystery they had saved up. What actually happens? The viewers leave, show gets the axe from the channel and soap spends the last month divulging all the history they saved up to lengthen the show and end abruptly. Simple economics of greed not paying off.

Once upon a time, IPKKND had spice. Now it is bland.

Once upon a time, there was no serial killer in the making shown as cute, excusable Bubbly, no Masala mama comic in a Hawaian shirt (stereotypical abuse of weight problems), and some good dialogues for Akash and Payal. Now the parallel couple is shot to the sidelines to be reduced to Bubbly's babysitters.

Once upon a time Anjali did a little more than cute smiles for a stupid husband. Now all she does is obliges.

Shyam is disgusting (especially today's eating scene) and over played. No it has nothing to do with my confusion with the villainous character. It has everything to do with bad acting and bad direction.

Once upon a time it was an intelligent show with symbolisms (I made and entire Arhipedia) and now it has none - coming from a life-long classics reader. There are almost no symbolisms and the ones meant to be symbols are overt and badly directed. We have to bend ourselves backward and read into things that were never intended.

Barun said it is hard to write great things every day, I don't agree. Writing for a Indian daily soap has more to do with the timeline than anything. The only challenge is to make things happen, not necessarily write literature. Mary is thinking of moving to India and taking a writing job because the sadness of IPKKND talent as well as other soap writing is making her think that she can do a better job and earn a decent income from writing - her actual passion. Ok kidding. But the thought did cross my mind.

Poor direction. Period.

The actors would not have to word 12 hour shifts and they did not have to spend all day waiting for the one room to be reset to make another character's room (Arnav's room the same as Anjali's, Mami's, Guest's etc). Simple economic decision would be to make separate cardboard rooms and save money on the hours actors acquire sitting around for the set to be made up. It is not actually cheaper to use one room at the end of the day. It would save Sanaya and Barun from becoming tired of their work and Barun complaining about long hours. It would also mean promos and mahaepisodes for us because the CVs are not wasting time on making sets everyday based on pictures of character's rooms.

It would also be nice if Khushi's stylist did not go buy 2 for one cheap looking fabrics in different colors to make frumps and only Sanaya saves with her beauty. Stylists with tastes is great. It doesn't take money to give Khushi some new styles of clothing. Anarkali on a petite little actress adds weight and bulk.

New suits for Arnav can be made on the cheap too (takes about 3K rupees, not expensive for even a starting PH) so that he doesn't have to wear the suits he drenched in the rain and ruined. Suits have to be dry cleaned, they are not resuable after drenching in the rain - but Arnav has.

Clearly, I am frustrated by the lack of efficiency. IPKKND is quickly loosing its global phenomenon status because of this mess. The online audience has gone down according to IF presence and while we may not contribute to the TRPs, we did make you win the awards. Now you have disappointed us after the awards. Hubris is bad and only leads to a downward spiral. Get your act together because the loyal viewers are still just looking for an excuse to love IPKKND again. Including yours truly.

Definitely yes, I for one am looking for the faintest excuse to fall in love with the show again.
It has lost all its magic to the extent that I started to question my sanity while watching some of the recent episodes and asked myself, "What the heck are you doing??"

From my limited past experience of the soaps, unless a miracle happens, the PH will only go deeper into the mess in trying to come out of it.

Well said. I have watched one of two soaps before, all followed the trend but none started out as good as this one or fell so hard.

Though the storyline is picking up recently, the cheapness of the PH is ridiculous.

I was little short of horrified to find out they had just the ONE room for everything. Just... what on Earth are they thinking? How could repainting the same set a gazillion times EVER be considered a good idea? In what world is that logical, efficient or cost-effective?

And please do not get me started on the disgusting shiny suits Arnav wears. I don't know if the suit he was wearing on the morning of PayAsh's wedding day- the one which fit him PERFECTLY- was Barun's as opposed to being provided by the PH but if not, WHERE has it gone?

The material looked expensive and it made him look incredible.

Some of Khushi's anarkhalis are nice (not the ones with the velvet chest piece- I don't know WHO thought those monstrosities were a good idea) but they're being repeated far too often. Sanaya seems to have really good style herself, I wouldn't be averse to her wearing some of her own traditional clothes.

I remember watching the EHMMBH when they first show the Vadhera mansion and I was completely BLOWN AWAY. I love this show (IPKKND I mean) and I will keep watching it because there are so many good things which, for me, outweigh the bad... But unless the reason for this skimping on not just details but pretty substantial factors has something to do with them saving money to rebuild Sheesh Mahal and give us an entirely new, perfectly decorated and designed mansion... it is just unacceptable.

Things such as the Raizadas suddenly going from celebrities to just "kind of rich" I can, I guess, overlook- but come ON. Even MY brother has more shirts than Arnav...

I'm not some serial addict but the indian shows I have seen, majority of them started off amazingly. I was glued. Few months later they start going downhill, and I'm sitting there, telling myself it will get better as every thing has it's "downtime". Next thing you hear, channel is axing it and the CVs don't know how to end it, so the lead end up having a baby and it's happily ever after. This isn't the case with all the shows but it is so w/ majority.
The shows I have watched, I wasn't obsessed, IPKKND is the first one I literally am obsessed with. It would be such a heartbreak if the CVs don't bring the "magic" back. I keep going back to the GH episodes and the ones after. I agree it's nothing with Barun, Sanaya, Abhaas, etc. they're all brilliant actors but it's the storyline that needs a major fix. I won't lie though, I'm really enjoying the last few episodes. I thought w/ Barun's leave, they will drag till his return, but I'm loving how they're showing a different side of Khushi. Her inner feelings, her thoughts are all something CVs hadn't explored till now. I hope they keep up w/ this and when he comes back, we can see that magic back. Oh and the bubbly, maami, payash crap, that dorky masala mama.. :@ I strongly refuse to comment lest I get a warning from Mods!
The clothes, hair, bad direction, you've said it all.

i have always said, that IPK wins all sorts of points and kudos on a writing and scripting level. the shit they are in today is because of shoddy screenply and even crappier direction (of the story)...
the past week's episodes should ideally take place some time in the craze of the 'torture arnav track'. so damage control mode it is.

actually, in the first bits of the ME, the orange anarkali she wore with the white embroidery is hers. she wore that to her UK trip.

and last i checked, a newborn baby has more clothes than Arnav.

That reply was getting too long so decided to add this in another comment:

Underestimating their audience/ taking their audience for granted has been their biggest downfall. The Iss Pyaar audience is categorically different to the stereotypical Indian Drama watching audience.

I mean, how many people do YOU know that say "I never watched Indian Dramas before... but this one was so different and addictive I just couldn't stop!"?

I myself fall into that category.

I feel like my old Iss Pyaar is slowly returning to me with recent episodes, but I've already rambled about how I want the side characters to be given more of a role and background and substance in another post and I hope Arnav's absence gives the writers the chance to do this.

It seems like they've heard my cries :') So I just hope that just as the side characters appear to be coming back into the limelight somewhat and the actual plot seems to be rollercoastering-as I had hoped it would have done about two months ago- the PH will sort out the "background" details as well.

Though tbf, if they could just go back to the intense story we were promised and actually got for the first 6-8 months, I would even be willing to overlook a set that looked like it'd been created by Secondary School kids doing a School Play...

I completely agree! Last night I was watching some scenes ( i didnt realize i actually missed so many) and they had quality to it. It honestly started SO grand, they kept it that way for a while but then it dropped.
I loved the recent maha episode cause of the acting, expressions and dialogues. For a day i thought its back but then this week it was aight...whtever.
They need to pick up their work. I have no idea about the viewers in India, but today I nearly lost my interest. I was very close to skipping the episode, and i know if i skip one i'll stop watching it completely.
It was the track, the characters, the hairstyles, the house, the attitude, the jokes, the intensity, etc what made me so addicted to it because I never saw all this in indian dramas. It was something new something interesting but now its kind of gone.
This week i really liked how khushi misses arnav and the suspense of where arnav could be. Today is what, fourth day, since he vanished and all they showed about him was a text wich was sent by cvs know who. I didnt think that was enough to keep the suspense. If they dont show anything more tomorrow then blah i dont care where arnav is. They gotta keep me interested you know...

So yeah.. sorry for the long post but in short I agree with every point of yours.

one more thing I dont know if this has anything to do with directing but I felt arnavs expressions arent as strong or intense like they were before, in the starting. I also felt it a bit in khushi expressions as well but not quite alot. It seems like arnav as a person has calmed down since the start (may be he Is supposed to?).

oh sorry again but i totally forgot about dressing! I can seriously tear the dress khushi was wearing today. Atleast repeat with a gap! It looks like she has not washed them or has not taken a shower.
And her hair have gone much better now! in the middle omg the frizz!! I wanted to personally go and straighten that wig and put some products on!!

Yep, the writing and the acting... phenomenal.

It's the creative side that's atrocious. Everything that's controlled by the production house. And I mean, the thing that has ALWAYS riled me is that we have SEEN GEET. We KNOW that they can be cheap without being misers. Why are they doing this? :/

Hah yeah! I noticed that too. I'd be willing to bet the pink one she wore to the airport was hers too. Please Sanaya, continue dressing yourself. Laxative your stylist's tea if you need to but whatever just GET RID OF HER!! Or hire that adorable girl who styled Geet- she was always SO well dressed.

He needs to burn those shiny suits and waistcoats and then replace them with some well tailored, properly fitted suits and PLEASE CONTINUE ON WITH THE BELTS. I swear belts with slightly larger buckles on leaner guys are so sexy it hurts :') I mean for goodness sake, why is SHYAM better dressed than Arnav? 😆

I agree with every point you mentioned here.😃

This is not merely a fiction for me. I love IPKKND and ARHI are real characters for me.
But the storyline since past two months has been pathetic and now I no longer wait eagerly to watch every episode. I can forgive them for pathetic wardrobes😡 and single room repainted for every single scene.😡 However, I want the good direction and the tight storyline back.

My all time favourite scenes are from the Diwali episodes.. What happened to that perfection??

I am sorry to say but I have lost interest in the show. I still have a ray of hope that IPKKND will be back. ( I don really want to expect too much though)

I love SARUN 😳and all the other actors in the show. I will continue watching just for them until... I find something else..
