Hi all!!!

In honor of Janmashtami, I'd like to reawaken this thread and use it to dwell on the very beautiful episodes of this show concerning preparations for Shri Krishna's arrival and his divine birth itself. For the next two weeks until the big day, hopefully with some degree of regularity (except for early next week when I have an exam), I will be dropping in here to gush about those episodes all over again, and hope many of you decide to join me

We will start here - with the song Taaranhaar, during which Kans persecutes the people of Mathura for rejoicing at the proximity of the hour of Lord's arrival.

Here is the song in its entirety, in high quality:

Because this uploader accidentally jumped around a bit during this particular episode, here are the parts that he missed/shortened:

This scene occurs right after Taaranhaar:

And this is the full Garbh Stuti:

Enjoy, discuss, Jai Shri Krishna!

^^ should we backtrack further and start discussing everything from Kans's intro and the devtas asking God to incarnate? That's all considered part of Krishna janm katha :D

Why not? The story of Krishna Janmashtami has its own separate charm that is unique and different from all his different phases.😃
Btw guys, my family just finished watching the part where Krishna saves Parikshit from Uttara's womb and the Pandavas punish Ashwathama for his ill-deeds. I am actually quite pleased with this phase of SK...it was not all that bad as I thought and though there were a lot of parts that were unnecessarily dragged and shown inaccurately (in terms of characterization, especially of Draupadi, Arjun, and Bheem), I've formed some special appreciation for it taking some recent 'events' under consideration. ;) Though there were small inaccuracies here and there (like Nakul killing Shakuni instead of Sahadev), I enjoyed the Kurukshetra episodes becaused they showed them in great detail and covered every small story. We are now entering the Barbarik track. Has anyone here seen it?
Btw, I'm sooo sorry for not editing my previous entry yet, it has to be my longest gap yet. I'll have to re-watch those epis to refresh my memory about the conversations Akrur had with Kans, Vasudev, and Devaki, but once I'm done I'll edit as soon as I can. Thanks for bearing with me.😳😳

The discussion on Garg-Akrur scene also has wide scope Janu. We can start it any time after Janmastami also alongside reviving Gargaachaary thread.

When does the saving of Parikshit scene come? Immediately after Brahmastra/Brahmashiraastra confrontation with Ashwatthama in Vyas's aashram like shown in BRC MB? I think in actual MB text, it happens in Aashwamedhik parva or around but not before Shanti parva and Anushaasan parva. The dead baby is born before that yagya only. After coming back from Vyas's aashram, Krishna only gives assurance that nothing will happen to Uttara's child as he will be there to revive him or protect him when the child is still in the womb.

And Lola. Those preparations of birth episode are as blissful as the birth episodes themselves really. Great build up of the event. Beautiful. Particularly the background music when devi Yogmaya enters the womb of Yashoda along with the soft sitar previously in Golok scene. And all the actors rock in these videos after Taranhar song (A song which has a very strong emphasis on the depth of prayer coming out from the highest level of speech).

Yes, that's when it happens...but the actual texts of Veda Vyas's MB and Bhagwat Puraan vary. Vyasa's MB has the story like you said, that Parikshit was stillborn and Krishna revived him back to life, while Bhagwat Puraan tells us that Krishna went into the womb of Uttara before Ashwathama's brahmastra could harm her, and protected both the baby and mother that way. I guess both BRC's MB and SK went with Bhagwat Puraan's version of the events, because SK showed Krishna's Sudarshan Chakra (and not Krishna himself, but I guess it's the same thing😕) spinning a protective shade over Uttara's belly and making the Brahmastra retreat.
Parikshit even has a special name because of this event...I don't remember it clearly, but the meaning is 'one who saw Krishna as a fetus'...does anyone here know?

This is such a lovely thread

Thank you Janaki for sharing your experiences with Sree Krishna Katha!!!!

Sri Krishna Katha is so vast , vivid and all encompassing that that its not possoble to narrate it in a flow. Ramanad Sagar has managed ti do it in quiet a good manner

The tale itself is so beautiful that in however way you make it it does not loose its charm

Out of the tales of sree Krishna Katha ones that I like the most are

1. Shree Krishna baal leele : Krishna Dances on Kaliya naag
2. Shree Krishna Weds Rukmini
3. Shree Krishna and Shishuopal
3 Shree Krishna saves Draupadi
4 Shree Krishna saves Draupadi again from Durvasa rishi when he eatd one grain from her patra
5 Satyabhama Darp Bhang
6 Shree Krishna Narrated Sremadbhagwad Geeta
7. Shree Krishna talks about Karna after his death
8 Shree Krishna saves Parikshit

And many more😊

Yayyy for being on board for the idea, bhaiya and Janu... so here I go!

Starting with the scene in which the devtas panic over Kans's atyachaars, go to Brahma for help, and get redirected to Vishnu Bhagwan/Shri Krishna. I liked how the scene showed us that Kans was not some nice sweet family man who suddenly got transformed into a beast upon hearing the aakashwani - he had already earned his punishment (or shall we call it fortune?) well before. The song that follows, Sharanagat vatsal Narayan, has great lyrics but I found the lady who sings for Dharti Maa a bit besuri when she sings "trahimaam, trahimaam" in the end so that takes away from it for me 😆 And... repeat dubbing artist alert: Brihaspati complains about Kans in the same voice that Kans himself speaks in for the rest of the show 😆

it's all good though, because soon after we are treated to this magical moment - SK's very first of several lessons in the concepts of dwait and adwait!

The depth and beauty of the overall scene along with the song it culminates in, Radha So Shyam, are self-evident. My favorite part is the ending, when Narad requests the ability to oversee all of Shri Krishna's earthly leelas during this incarnation and freedom from the bewilderment of maya while doing so. The way he says in the end, that "kabhi kabhi apni mohini muskaan ke saath meri or bhi nihaar liya karna"... it's just the height of sweetness 😍 Deepak Dave's own expression while saying that is priceless... I almost think that even if he wasn't saying anything at all at that moment and just giving that playful smile and nod, we would be able to understand that that's what he means to say - it is that precise 👏
On a shallow note, this is one of the few scenes in which we get to hear SDB's real voice, just the intro one where he helps Narad resolves Mata Bhakti's problem, this, and the very next one in which he narrates the introduction to the political situation in Mathura... and then they start dubbing him w/ none other than Sunil Pandey. I think his voice was just fine, shoulda kept it in! It has that strength and resonance and there is no accent issue from what I can tell. But whatever I got to hear more of SP so can't complain 😆

Right after that Naradji goes to get a glimpse of that fortunate pair who will have the honor of becoming Shri Krishna's parents. We get to hear a duet version of the same aarti that Kaushalya Maa sang in Ramayan before waking up junior Ramji, "Lakshmi Ramanam". We learn that Vasuji was a very devout son and his parents seem to dote on him a lot, thank God he was beyond all the compliments getting to his head... hamein bhi yeh vinamrata sikhaaiye Vasudevji 😆 And when Naradji barsaaos the flower on him, his expression of shock is spot-on 😆 An instant favorite. Shursen is also instantly likable because of his confidence and command.
Then the visit to Devaki Maiya. We are told she's praying to Gauri Maa, but they never do a close-up of the murti so it may not have been a Gauri Maa one at all 😆 I'm pretty sure it was actually Vishnu Bhagwan bcuz from the distance, you can make out a gada and four arms... and OMG when I was posting the vid for you guys to double check, I saw new comment under it - someone thinks Shursen was played by Shahnawaz, earlier seen as Raja Bali and later as Nand Baba... and I think they might be right 😲 How did we never guess that before!!! No wonder Shahnawaz is in the credits for epis that Nand Baba wasn't in!!! Whoa, I'm so glad I'm doing these entry things or I might not have seen that! But then... maybe the dude is mistaken. What do you guys think?
Here's the vid so y'all can double check on both the murti and the speculated triple role of Shahnawaz... for a good glimpse of the murti, pause @ 1:50 -

Devaki Maiya doesn't get to say anything yet but her expressions are sweet, especially the smile she has on after putting the flower in her thaali... looks like she's upto something 😆 She is, btw, wearing the same dupatta over her blouse that Deepika had on during RSR's SiyaRam vivaah epi. And... the santoor melody we hear as she walks away from the murti is one of my favs, it sounds so girly and pretty! It resurfaces when Garg tells the story of how Padmavati is deceived into conceiving Kans, and then much later in some Rukmini scenes. If anyone comes across any scene in which we hear it for a long time uninterrupted by dialogue, please let me know and I'll save it! I only have a very short and unclear version at the moment.

Next up is the Mathura's rajyasabha which makes us familiar with so many different personalities and has so much foreshadowing for future epis... that I think I will give it its own post! Until then, looking forward to you guys' takes... feel free to cover either more or fewer scenes than I did, I won't tell anyone 😆 Can't wait!!!

P.S. - one more observation came to mind that I would love for you all to weigh in on: When Narad Muni showers the flower on Vasudevji, he appears to be a little freaked out by it for a second, but Devaki's reaction is a bit different - she goes from mild surprise to devotion as she puts the flower in the thaali and bows her head. Then she smiles as if she knows something that we don't 😆 Interestingly enough, these reactions vary every time they witness a miracle. For example, the conception of glow-in-the-dark baby Balram. Then, Devaki Maiya is more perplexed and Vasudevji is more relieved... the flowers in the cell after Shri Krishna's garbh stuti elicit an accepting and reverent reaction from both of them. But during Soja Lalla they seem to revert to the reactions implied in this pair of introductory scenes. Any interpretation from you guys as far as this aspect of their respective introductions is concerned? Was the difference in their reactions unintentional and I'm simply over-analyzing, circumstantial (i.e. its obviously freakier to have a flower land in your already open hand than fall in front of you), or did it indeed have some purpose to imply something about their inherent personalities?
