^^ at least another hour n a half... but I bet I can guess what it is :p sooo excited!
Yayyy for being on board for the idea, bhaiya and Janu... so here I go!
Starting with the scene in which the devtas panic over Kans's atyachaars, go to Brahma for help, and get redirected to Vishnu Bhagwan/Shri Krishna. I liked how the scene showed us that Kans was not some nice sweet family man who suddenly got transformed into a beast upon hearing the aakashwani - he had already earned his punishment (or shall we call it fortune?) well before. The song that follows, Sharanagat vatsal Narayan, has great lyrics but I found the lady who sings for Dharti Maa a bit besuri when she sings "trahimaam, trahimaam" in the end so that takes away from it for me 😆 And... repeat dubbing artist alert: Brihaspati complains about Kans in the same voice that Kans himself speaks in for the rest of the show 😆 I noticed that too...someone who was listening to an audio of SK instead of watching it would be confused indeed.😆 And I agree with the above lines, the way the story began after Parikshit meets with Shuk Dev was immediately attention grabbing and also realistic. I've seen movies show Kans super sweet and loving to Devaki before the Aakashwani incident and suddenly turn monstrous after that in a split second.😕 I know Kans did love his sister a lot, but he was no good guy and he loved his life most of all, more than anything and anyone. It's good that SK showed that side of Kans so people do not feel as if his reaction to the Aakashwani was 'justified' and natural, since anyone would be protective of their life (yes, there are people like that🤬).
it's all good though, because soon after we are treated to this magical moment - SK's very first of several lessons in the concepts of dwait and adwait!
The depth and beauty of the overall scene along with the song it culminates in, Radha So Shyam, are self-evident. My favorite part is the ending, when Narad requests the ability to oversee all of Shri Krishna's earthly leelas during this incarnation and freedom from the bewilderment of maya while doing so. The way he says in the end, that "kabhi kabhi apni mohini muskaan ke saath meri or bhi nihaar liya karna"... it's just the height of sweetness 😍 Deepak Dave's own expression while saying that is priceless... I almost think that even if he wasn't saying anything at all at that moment and just giving that playful smile and nod, we would be able to understand that that's what he means to say - it is that precise 👏 Deepak Dave was the best Narad any mytho ever had!I've seriously never liked another Narad actor so much, because they usually suck in most mytho shows and movies for some reason.😕 Directors have this habit of choosing actors with really squeaky voices and nasal problems for their Narad.😆
On a shallow note, this is one of the few scenes in which we get to hear SDB's real voice, just the intro one where he helps Narad resolves Mata Bhakti's problem, this, and the very next one in which he narrates the introduction to the political situation in Mathura... and then they start dubbing him w/ none other than Sunil Pandey. I think his voice was just fine, shoulda kept it in! It has that strength and resonance and there is no accent issue from what I can tell. But whatever I got to hear more of SP so can't complain 😆 Really? That was SDB's real voice? I wonder why they didn't keep it then, since it sounded fine like you said...was the latter part of SK also SDB's voice or no?
Right after that Naradji goes to get a glimpse of that fortunate pair who will have the honor of becoming Shri Krishna's parents. We get to hear a duet version of the same aarti that Kaushalya Maa sang in Ramayan before waking up junior Ramji, "Lakshmi Ramanam". We learn that Vasuji was a very devout son and his parents seem to dote on him a lot, thank God he was beyond all the compliments getting to his head... hamein bhi yeh vinamrata sikhaaiye Vasudevji 😆 And when Naradji barsaaos the flower on him, his expression of shock is spot-on 😆 An instant favorite. Shursen is also instantly likable because of his confidence and command. It's really sad that this scene was taken out of the DVDs! I loved it so much when watching it on dailymotion because it was so sweet and meaningful, and kind of important too...not to mention really short so I don't understand why it was edited out.😕 Also, I have a few questions on Shurasena's family...was Vasudev his only son or did V have an elder brother whom the Kingdom went to later on? If so, why did Vasudev and Devaki live at Dwaraka since younger brothers and their families usually live at the elder brother's home? It's not the same case as Shatrughan and Lavanasur, since Vasudev never defeated anyone and got their Kingdom, and I've always been confused since after Kans Vadh, they show Krishna, Vasudev, Balaram, and Devaki all living in Mathura, which is Devaki's natal Kingdom. Instead of moving people from Mathura to Dwaraka, wouldn't Krishna move them from his father's Kingdom to Dwaraka, or something like that?
Then the visit to Devaki Maiya. We are told she's praying to Gauri Maa, but they never do a close-up of the murti so it may not have been a Gauri Maa one at all 😆 I'm pretty sure it was actually Vishnu Bhagwan bcuz from the distance, you can make out a gada and four arms... and OMG when I was posting the vid for you guys to double check, I saw new comment under it - someone thinks Shursen was played by Shahnawaz, earlier seen as Raja Bali and later as Nand Baba... and I think they might be right 😲 How did we never guess that before!!! No wonder Shahnawaz is in the credits for epis that Nand Baba wasn't in!!! Whoa, I'm so glad I'm doing these entry things or I might not have seen that! But then... maybe the dude is mistaken. What do you guys think? I'll have to see those epis again, but that's really interesting! That means Shah Nawaz played two major roles, since Shursen is not that minor of a role and did get a lot of limelight in the beginning.
Here's the vid so y'all can double check on both the murti and the speculated triple role of Shahnawaz... for a good glimpse of the murti, pause @ 1:50 -
Devaki Maiya doesn't get to say anything yet but her expressions are sweet, especially the smile she has on after putting the flower in her thaali... looks like she's upto something 😆 She is, btw, wearing the same dupatta over her blouse that Deepika had on during RSR's SiyaRam vivaah epi. Nice catch...as usual.😆 And... the santoor melody we hear as she walks away from the murti is one of my favs, it sounds so girly and pretty! It resurfaces when Garg tells the story of how Padmavati is deceived into conceiving Kans, and then much later in some Rukmini scenes. If anyone comes across any scene in which we hear it for a long time uninterrupted by dialogue, please let me know and I'll save it! I only have a very short and unclear version at the moment.
P.S. - one more observation came to mind that I would love for you all to weigh in on: When Narad Muni showers the flower on Vasudevji, he appears to be a little freaked out by it for a second, but Devaki's reaction is a bit different - she goes from mild surprise to devotion as she puts the flower in the thaali and bows her head. Then she smiles as if she knows something that we don't 😆 Interestingly enough, these reactions vary every time they witness a miracle. For example, the conception of glow-in-the-dark baby Balram. Then, Devaki Maiya is more perplexed and Vasudevji is more relieved... the flowers in the cell after Shri Krishna's garbh stuti elicit an accepting and reverent reaction from both of them. But during Soja Lalla they seem to revert to the reactions implied in this pair of introductory scenes. Any interpretation from you guys as far as this aspect of their respective introductions is concerned? Was the difference in their reactions unintentional and I'm simply over-analyzing, circumstantial (i.e. its obviously freakier to have a flower land in your already open hand than fall in front of you), or did it indeed have some purpose to imply something about their inherent personalities? Nice observation🤓...hmm, I don't think you're over-analyzing it, but I also don't think it's too weighty. The reactions could simply have been the interpretation of the actors on how their character would react, or...Devaki was outside when the flower fell into her hands, so she could have thought it fell from a tree or something, whereas Vasudev was inside so it's a lot freakier.😆
