OMG, why'd you put it off that much?!😲 What I'd do if I were you is to delete the PMs you know you won't respond to, like fanfic ones of shows you don't even see (unless you really do read those), and also delete PMs of shopkeepers who've updated more than once so that you can go to their shop with just one link. It'll clear up your inbox space and stress you out less.
Lol fanfic ones like that go out as soon as they come - its all sig updates I can't get to from my phone and am usually too tired to comment on when I'm finally home, and some really long PMs that require thoughtful replies. I'll get through it though, esp with the sort-by-user and cover all their updates in one post idea. Thanks for that! And rofl @ "shopkeepers" 😆Yeah, that's true...more than the 'Sampoorna Ramayan' or 'Krishna Leela' movies, which just skimmed over the story and wrapped it up really quickly, the one-story or one-character ones were so much better. This one black and white (telugu) movie I loved is called 'Bhishma' and centered around his life, so it had less Krishna in it but still showed the entire Bhishma-centered Mahabharat story really accurately and also in detail. It was awesome!
Ooo sounds good, is it available anywhere with subs?
Yeah, and we see that more these days than with the older mythos, because directors feel they need to cater to TRPs and apparently, the actual story isn't long or interesting enough.😕 To an extent I understand the TRP strain, since if a show doesn't have adequate TRPs, it's shut down even when it's really good, but it's only ruining the good shows.😔 Sometimes I really dislike today's telly business, it's all competition among everyone that sometimes, mytho directors really can't help but twist a few details to garner more TRPs...it's the only way to keep their show alive. I'm SO glad RS and BRC did not have this to deal with...wonder what would have happened if TRPs had existed during the 80s and 90s.😲Yeah thank God 😔 Some twists do indeed come from a need to keep up with the rat race, but those are usually in the form of added events or spiced up events... the rearranged and self-contradicting events are a whole other animal, goodness knows what inspires the inclusion of those 😕Yeah, this story is straight out of RCM, right? Because in VR, there's not much divine intervention and no one really knew anything that was going to happen...it was more Karma based than RCM...but why do people say Tulsidas did not write Uttar Kand when in the books published by Gita Press, there is an Uttar Kand section?
Actually, no - this scene is almost word-for-word from VR 😳 RCM did not cover Sita's exile, so there would be nothing for Lakshman to ask about and Sumantra to give this story in response. VR tells us that when Lakshman returns heartbroken after having left Sita Maa in the forest, he goes to Sumantra for guidance, who in turn tells him this exact story about Dashrath knowing all along. You should really read VR in full form, you'd be surprised at how many times it disproves this common generalization about it being the humanized Ramayan and RCM being the deified one. In fact, almost all the all-knowing almighty type monologues that RSR had Ram give us can be found in VR, I have a word doc with the exact citations. Anyway, RCM's Uttar Kand is kind of the conclusion of the frame structure that was set up in Bal Kand - Shivji telling Gauri Maa the story, Kaag Bhushandi telling Garud the story, etc. It does give a brief set of versus describe that there was perfect Ram Rajya, SiyaRam had two kids, and teh rest is history sort of thing. But mainly, it is what you see happening outside of Ayodhya in the first Lav Kush DVD (though it has been edited incessantly - I hope to put up the full version when I have time).I know, especially when we take into consideration his Daan Veer side...plus, according to story he knew he was Kunti's son before the war began, so I wonder how he had the heart to kill his own nephew so cold-bloodedly?
Eww I never even thought of that but that's so true... both from that personal perspective of killing his own relative and from a spiritual one that comes to mind - he had already technically surrendered by giving Kunti that promise; why not worry a bit about your soul and stay away from such a sin if you know you're almost at your end 😕 I guess it could loosely be related to his almost-namesake Kumbhkarn, who in spite of knowing Ram's divinity and telling Ravan he was heading out for liberation rather than victory, went out and crushed innocent vaanars in battle just for the heck of it though he knew what was right and what was wrong. It doesn't make it any better though; I guess the only explanation that can do that is - you guessed it - vidhi ka vidhaan!
Ekalavya story I agree with, because it was sooo wrong of Drona to harm an innocent child to promote his own student, but I can understand his grudge against Drupad. Though he was a sage and he should have controlled it, he kind of took on a Kshatriya role in society so he lost that self-control over himself. Plus, Drupad treated him pretty badly and humiliated him in front of his entire court...I kind of felt Drupad got what he deserved and it was not right of him to do that yagna for Drishtadyumna.
Ehh, I would still hope for more from one who is revered as a guru. What will you teach others about abandoning pride if you yourself have not done so? I don't agree with Drupad either, I consider his awful friendship the perfect foil for Shri Krishna's divine one with Sudama. But I guess that's the Mahabharat for us, a whole lot of gray characters who make us think and overthink about who was ultimately right and who was wrong and what's the criteria. And thank you for inspiring another thread idea 😆
