Yaaay, you're back!!! Now all that's left is for you to finish your AviSig rounds and you'll be all caught up for good.😉😉
Lol that's where I'll need all the good wishes I can get... 73 unopened PMs and maybe 2 dozen that I opened but didn't respond to yet... He RamLols, when I was little, I always used to watch the happy swayamvar and vivah scenes from Ramayan movies, same as you.😆
Awww 😆 See on the VHS set, RBLS's Gurukul graduation through Praachi Disi was on tape 2, Swayamvar upto the 4 sisters finding out about the quadruple marriage was on volume 3 and the vivaah upto Kaushalya assuring Dashrath about the how well the girls will be treated was on volume 4. I used to watch 4 a lot less often than the others because of the sappy vidaai stuff that made no sense to me then, if it wasn't for my love of the peppy and festive Aayi Re Baaraat Janakji Ke Dwaare song I would probably have demanded only tapes 2 and 3 on repeat and skipped the vivaah altogether during that stage 😆
Exactly! This is the reason I prefer shows over movies when it comes to mythos and historical stories...movies do not have the time to elaborate on each character's greatness and sacrifice, because they have a time limit in which to complete the story. It's not really their fault since movies cannot be too long, but because of it we do not really find ourselves connecting with any of the characters since the story movies too fast. It's the complete opposite for fictional stories. Serials drag way too long while movies are perfect for them.😆
Right on!!! My favorite mytho movies were always the ones that picked one incident to portray rather than the whole epic - there was a movie called Bharat Milaap, one called Krishna Sudama Milan, etc. - then they didn't have to squeeze it together and skip out on important character build-up. Also agree that I prefer fiction as movies than as shows because you can totally tell when they've run out of stories to tell and are feeding you directionless crap If only some mytho makers knew this, they wouldn't put so much fiction in our beloved mythos and stick to the story at hand because that's more than enough to keep us glued.
Yeah, these scenes are straight out of the book but how many people actually read the puranas, you know? To those who read and re-read these stories, the characters' greatness is nothing new, but to those who depend on media for their religious education are greatly impacted by what they see. I too love all the feelings Dashrath exhibits in this scene.
Even after reading and re-reading the stories, a visual representation can have that kind of intense impact on you if well-portrayed. At least in my experience; I grew up with a set of abridged versions of all 18 puraans that were the sources of my bedtime stories each night but it did not make me immune to the kind of emotional impact these scenes had, once I was old enough to understand them.
Yeah, the way we see him fall apart when Ram leaves really brings tears to our eyes.😭 He knew he was going to die, because death due to separation from a beloved son was the curse he got from Sanatkumara's parents...though we do not know it then, he was probably sad too because he knew he would not be alive to see Ram return and be made King.😭
Very true!!! But you meant Shravan Kumar, not the Sanatkumars right 😳 Anywho great observation cuz I hadn't even thought of that - I meant this scene that's so much later - the one in which Sumantra tells Lakshman how much Dashrath knew beforehand:

Same here, there are definitely places where I admire the characters of Dronacharya and Karna, but all that is before this scene because once I see or read this, any liking I had of them goes completely down the drain. We already hate the other Kauravas because their personalities were always evil and our opinion about them remains unchanged, but we feel disappointed with Dronacharya and Karna because we expect better of them after taking into consideration their good qualities.
Karn I totally agree about, he does show signs of having a conscience before this point and there is plenty of reason to expect more from him. Drona too, I guess, but I've always had at least a slight distaste for him because of his long held grudge and desperation for revenge against Drupad, as well as the Eklavya story.

^^ Thank you SO much for the pic update, Lola!🤗 I only ever saw this scene once, when I saw some of the old epis online. I really love the reactions of all three parents and wished they had included Sumitra too, with a little insight into her character as well.😍 The quality of the pics isn't that bad at all, definitely workable for us mytho peeps.😉 I'll try to make a sig soon, Bal Dhuri, Jayshree, and Padma all look really natural and sweet in this scene, thanks again for sharing the pics!
Most welcome sweets, and thanks for the reassurance about the quality... expecting a boatload of siggies from our whole team now 😉😆 True, it would've been great to see Sumitra Maa's behavior in this scene especially given her noble characterization during Ayodhya Kand - any number of scenes with that kind person in them is more than welcome - but I think Rajnibala had some other projects on hand during the BaalKand epis because if you notice, she isn't shown in the Ram Navmi celebration song or the scene right before this either - when Dashrath leaves the dinner table because he misses the kids too much to eat. Kind of like we've noticed with Shrutkirti in some vivaah and UttarKand scenes 😆 Anyways can't wait to see whatchya make from it!!!
