The judging of JJW was very poor, Shaan was busy promoting Awensha and giving her all kinds of break. like giving her time off etc.. I used to like child Awensha but don't appreciate her grown up voice (sorry Awensha fans)...Weak judges killed the program.

I do like some of the singers in the India idol, Mishra girl and Devender Singh are my current favorite. Indian idol has become better due to Ashji, I will watch it as long as Ashaji is the judge..

I will not watch JJW unless they have some high calibre judges.

I think you mean Anwesha not Awensha but either way Anwesha was given only one break due to a family emergency. I bet if any other contestant was faced with a similar issue, the judges would be understanding enough to let them off the hook for a week. I agree her voice has thinned out some, projection is lost in her voice but the technical accuracy is still there. Every singer, if you think about it, has been saved once by the judges so that's not being biased on the judges' part. Vaishali is a wonderful singer, she wasn't so consistent in JJWS but she did really well on many occasions. She as you know, came from SRGMP, which has some of the highest standards for singers. I think lots of great talents were neglected this season on Idol because of the lack of high standards and that's sad. That is my only point, the singing this time around on Idol is at its lowest. The best thing to come out of Idol5 was the recipient of the Lata Mangeshkar Award, Sreeram.

Wow, can't believe that the JJWS bashing has trickled down in this show as well. I don't think we are allowed to discuss other shows in II forum. But since the topic has been raised, I would like to post one of Anwesha's songs from JJWS. Can anyone imagine any contestant from here singing like this?

Hey friends, good day!
To be honest with you all these top 10 singers are gifted singers and they can sing each and every composition easily by any composer from Salil chaudhri to SD Burman to Madan Mohan Sahab to OP Nayyar sahab to Rashan to Kalyan ji Anand ji to Laxmikant Pyarelal to RD Burman to Ravindra Jain etc. etc. LOL. But they may not be very comfortable and confident to choose these old compositions as they don't want to risk their career and face elimination at such an early stage. Furthermore its upto the creatives and program director to decide epidsode theme. I think we will get a chance to hear them sing those oldies. I mean those songs are from their grand dad's era.😊
In my opinion these new compositions are very hard to sing in one take specially live on stage. Hats off to all these little masters. I was so happy to watch their performances that tears of joy were flowing from my eyes throughout this saturday's episode. I mean look at it, Asha ji giving standing ovation to a little kid. What a great achievement at this stage of her career. Abhishek telling a 17 year old kid that when time comes he would use his voice on screen. Look at Ritika, Charit, Sohini and Vipul. all were superb in their rendition. To become a plyback singer depends on luck and all other factors. Do they have finances to stay in Bombay for months while waiting for a break? Can they affort it?
And there is nothing wrong with Salim Soleman's compositions. They are top hit composers therse days and our new generation love them. Look at the success of Band baja and baarat. God bless these kids, I wish them all the best.

It is really a very difficult composition to sing and I guess Anwesha is trained in Shastriya sangeet because you need at least 6 to 8 years of training before attempting this kind of bandish in any raag and raag gujri todi is one of the difficult raag to sing.
You have asked if anyone from II6 can sing like this? I believe we have two strong contenders here as well who can sing Indian classical. They are Sohini and Davinderpal Singh. Davinderpal can sing 62 raags from Sri raag, Manj, Gauri, Gauri Deppki, gauri guareeri, Dev ghandhari, Vedhans, Aasa, Asawari, Toodi, Toodi deepki, Suhi, Ramkali, Kalyan, kalyan bhopali, Prabhati, Suhi Kafi, Suhi lalit and so on.
I can say that because one of my friends is still in touch with his Guruji Kulwant Singh ji. Mr. singh was here in Toronto in summer of 2000 for 3 months and I and my wife attended classes under his gudence & supervision. Please check out Davinderpal's appreciation thred. I have posted some videos where he is singing classical.

Jasji, Yes I agree. Sohini and Davindarpal have lot of potential. I was very impressed with Sohini's singing in the auditions, and I've seen Davidarpal's talent in your appreciation thread. Maybe that's why Ashaji has a special soft corner for these two singers.

But I wasn't very happy with the songs that they sang in yesterday's gala round. Dil mera muft ka is not a song that I'm particularly fond of. Doesn't matter old or new, there are some feel good and challenging songs in every generation. They tried to make most of these songs by adding some harkates which showed their talents. But really, I hope they get to sing some better songs next week.

Don't miss the forest for the trees.
By focussing on the technical details the song has got lost somehow.

If the contestants fail to pick right songs, show may loose TRP.

This is an amazing rendition by Anwesha! I've seen very very few singers of this caliber in any reality show. So, if we expect this kind of singing from anyone in Indian Idol, we will only be disappointed. The only person who has come close to this level of singing in Indian Idol is Sreeram. And we haven't got too many singers like Sreerams in Indian Idol either. So let's not wish for the stars in this show.

Although I would love to hear oldies, there are some recent songs that are very nice. I actually like the song that Deeksha sang, but she butchered it. We would have had a much better result if Kritika or one of the good singers that they have eliminated from the auditions (sorry, very bad with remembering names) had sung it.

I hope they improve the song selections to at least make this show watchable.

Well in a way I am happy that they are not attempting the old gold songs 😕😆 They would do disaster to those Ashaji might get a mild stroke *touchwood she wont* 😳

I would like to hear Kailash Kher's songs and some of Atif Aslam's.. Mohit Chauhan's songs are good too.. But some.. I wish they try songs like Teri Diwani or Saiyaan !! If not old songs, they can try at least these ! 😊

And as for the quality of the contestants.. I was seriously tuning for Rithika and Juhi.. And to some extent Kritika.. Two of them are out.. Now I am just in for the girls and Devender paaji ! 😳

These days the songs made are a combination of man and machine (or software)

This song for example has been recorded and then transposed to several notes higher scale (auto tune with transposition).

This one by Rahman has a lot of editing and piece meal fusion

As a result you have songs which are difficult to perform on stage, also they lose the zing when you temper the scale.

In the current era I would recommend several songs by SEL, ARR, J-L.

But Asha ji sitting there shouldn't tolerate Jalebi bai et al if they are performed.
