It is miserable that they sort of remembered R D Burman 2 weeks back but didn't ask contestants to sing his songs, RDB has diverse range of compositions, it could have been a great round. Apparently even Asha ji has lost the will and is simply in the flow.

The younger generation are not brought up with old songs, they are singing the songs they grew up hearing.

Every generation thinks the current music is trash..what they had was very good music, this is true of India and of the English speaking West (which I am familiar).

Actually I love some of the new songs and loved Mishra girl's "Dil mera Muffat Kaa" did you notice Ashaji tries to comment on her singing before Sunidhi because she is afraid of Sunidhi making negative comments of her classical sung song.

I love the current songs and many old ones.. thoroughly enjoyed Friday episode, I enjoy listening to Ashai's comments..Amen.

That Mishra girl, Kaushik and Devendra are less awful but the others are not very good and the songs selection is awful! I want people to sing Javed Ali type songs like Arziyaan. I need to find another show or watch other shows on youtube!

I'm hoping another musical show starts soon, i think i saw a promo for SRGMP but caught the very end of it so missed the date. As far as Idol is concerned, you have very poor quality of singers mixed in with very poor song selection. I'm not sure if better song selection helps. I think then, we would be unhappy with how songs by the greats were rendered so poorly. I'm glad contestants didn't sing R.D. Burman's gems. 😆I noticed that somehow even Asha Tai seemed somehow defeated, like top judging isn't possible with the circumstances that are at hand, she's just going with the flow. It's annoying to see judges giving such high praise for such average singing but, i guess they have no choice, they didn't select the best of the best from the auditions.

After 'Jo Jeeta wohi superstare" no more Saragamapa, unless Lataji or Ashaji are on the judging panel. Indian idol is many times better than 'Jo Jeeta" o=

I will never ever watch a singing show if it has Shaan is on the judging panel, he is very phony and awful judge.

Most of if not all of these young trained singers have grown up with lots of exposure to music, old and new. Many of them sing the old songs beautifully. This isn't so much a generational issue as a selection issue either by the contestants or the channel. Obviously someone doesn't feel comfortable with older (or even more challenging songs) being rendered by these singers so it hasn't happened. Of course, a round may be presented for them all to sing old songs sometime before the finale but compared to the song selection of other shows, this season's Indian Idol seems to be trying to play the safe route with easy poorer quality numbers as a whole.

I think many new songs are also very hard to render "Mera Dil Mufta Kaa" is a good example.

Actually not generation per se' but what you grew up listening too...Saigal, Noor Jahan are very good but is not sung too much because not people have grown up with their music.

When I visit India the music on the street and on radio is current music, most youngsters are humming current songs not old music.

Indian living outside India like old music because that was what they grew up with..

I wasn't a fan of any of JJWs's judges or the drama and unfairness the show was plagued with. But if we can put that aside momentarily, the quality of singing on JJWS is miles ahead of Indian Idol. Sreeram, Aneek, Irfan, Sharib, Nihira etc sang much better than this bunch of singers.

I agree, I'm not saying old songs are better, I'm 23 and love the new stuff a lot but not as many new numbers carry that certain level of dificulty that some older songs do and the way to truly test singers is to give them a wide selection of songs to sing so the audience and judges can evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, but that' hasn't happened yet.

Sorry to say but I only singer I liked in JJWs's is Vaishali rest for me are not memorable at all, she was heads and shoulder above everybody, when she was let go I stopped watching the program

The judging of JJW was very poor, Shaan was busy promoting Awensha and giving her all kinds of break. like giving her time off etc.. I used to like child Awensha but don't appreciate her grown up voice (sorry Awensha fans)...Weak judges killed the program.

I do like some of the singers in the India idol, Mishra girl and Devender Singh are my current favorite. Indian idol has become better due to Ashji, I will watch it as long as Ashaji is the judge..

I will not watch JJW unless they have some high calibre judges.
