I agree with @someone999...sunidhi has shown extreme control in this song ..has sung her parts very nicely ...melody part I would say thats the best she could do...its just that when its sonu alongside he slightly overshadows her as he is excellent at such soft tunes...I would give a 9

This is a beautiful song. But yes Sonu ji clearly was better. I just don't think this song type suits Sunidhi that much. However since recently I have been talking about versastility, Sunidhi has gone above and beyond by trying to show just that in her voice. And for the most part she did well. She had great voice control in the song. If there was something that I felt was lacking then it was her romantic feel and touch in her voice. I think she could have done better in that aspect. When the other singer overshadows the other one, then its a bit difficult to rate a high enough score for the 2nd one. Sunidhi did try her best and for the most part she was really good. But she failed to bring out the romance in her voice to create the magic in this romantic song...

Therefore my final score for her will be a 7.5 rounded to an 8!

'Mere Haath Mein' is arguably the best song in the 'Fanaa', because of its creativity. We may be used to such songs these days, since technology has moved on, films have changed and arrangers-extraordinaires (e.g. Salim-Sulaiman and Pritam) have become huge names in music direction.

But for Jatin-Lalit, who would stick to the same singers, the same beats, the same instruments and even the same lyricists, this song particularly is a coup. Yes, today's composers may know how to do flashy things with sound production, but Jatin-Lalit always had melody on their side. With Fanaa, they also have lyrics and orchestration! And the song with its easy melody, middle eastern intruments (loved the santoor!) and Islamic/Sufi inspired poetry

People might ask 'why Sunidhi'? Isn't Sunidhi the one for dance tracks? Shreya or Alka are meant to do the romantic duets, right?

Wrong. Sunidhi Chauhan, with her bassy voice, is actually great for lower pitched songs. And her versatile tonal quality allows her to sing for Kajol much more convincingly than thin-voiced singers like Shreya or Alka. Unfortunately, many MD's stick to pre-conceived notions (e.g. Anu Malik and Nadeem Shravan) and 'categorise' singers into 'genres'.

Sunidhi has done a masterful job. I fully agree with Kirti and somone999. It was great to hear a Western-styled 'breathy'/choral throw coupled with elegant Indian taans. Sunidhi's voice is deliciously delicate and despite the softness she has to include in her projection, Sunidhi renders the holding notes and descending taans awesomely! In fact, the singing style is very similar to that used by Sonu in 'Kal Ho Na Ho'.

This round, I'll be giving marks out of NINE. One extra mark is available for the most romantic singing!! (Richa is not in the running, because her song was not romantic).

SO Sunidhi gets an 8/9 for the technical aspect. I'll listen to the other singers and then decide who gets that last one mark!

This song is totally different from they type of songs that Sunidhi sings. She normally sings rocking numbers like "Shut Up and Bounce, Dance Pe Chance and Lucky Boy" amongst others. This is very different from her forte and taking that into account she has sung it very well so I give her full 10...

Beautifully sung by Sunidhi Chauhan!

Nice, soft, and smooth. As others said, this is unlike her other songs. She definitely shows a lot of versatility in this song. That's why I call her the most versatile female singer we have. And that's why she herself calls herself the most versatile female singer. And that's why she is the most versatile female singer.

Moving on to the singing, great feel she brought into this song.

She starts out with,

mere haath mein tera haath ho saari jannatein mere saath ho

She sings this very nice and softly unlike her voice in usual cases. Nonetheless, I think most other singers would've sang these lines better. Her voice seemed flat in this portion. Though it was nice and soft, her voice was basically monotonous and flat.

tu jo paas ho phir kya yeh jahaan tere pyar mein ho jaaun fanaa

This goes much better. This was more difficult as well. It required you to go higher, which she did effortlessly while keeping her soft singing touch. So well done here.

The rest of the song is sung well as well. Overall, she does a nice job showing her versatility. She shows she can sing the soft songs as well too. Nonetheless, in some areas her voice was flat. And I don't think her tonal quality is as good as someone like Shreya or Alka either, thus these songs would sort them better especially in the soft and parts that required only voice quality. But in other more difficult portions she did a better job.

Overall, good singing. Not as good as she does the dance numbers, but good overall. The romantic feel was brought, but it wasn't that good or that bad, so it won't have any impact on my score.

I think I too stick to 7/10, reasons as stated by ssk. The main thing was that I couldnt feel connected to her voice in this song. I dont know why I feel so, but I think it doesnt suit her!

Yeah. She does better in the dance and upbeat songs. After all, that's her forte. In songs like these, Shreya and Alka actually can sing them better, their voices just suit songs like this more, and they just have more skill in songs like this. Nonetheless, Sunidhi can also sing songs like this well as she showed here, but just not as good. But still good.

I totally disagree with your rating ssk. I think it is one of the best songs from Sunidhi. 7 is a very low mark for this beautiful song.

Anyways, I won't involve into any debate with you. Just wanted to share my Point of view.
