The title is inspired (as always) from the namesake song by Thriving Ivory. Apart from the dialog brilliance and excellent acting by both leads in the last scene, yet another time for a night time thunder storm bedroom confrontation scene - I thought the sequence was very well shot, and on that note special mention to the flowers. Reminded me of the song by Thriving Ivory, which inspires the namesake title of this topic, in particular these four lines:

Who will bring me flowers when its over
And who will bring me comfort when its cold
See I never meant for you to have to crawl
And I never meant to let you go at all...

Ignoring the first 2/3rd of the episode (which had me rolling eyes, gagging myself and struggling to not hit the screen 🤢) I'll jump to the one and only episode making scene today.

* I thought it was a significant difference from the usual showdowns, primarily on account of how, despite her bias and pre-judged interrogation, Gulaal truly was seeking answers for once. She wasn't coldly hurling accuses, even when she named intentions and pretensions to his credit, it was more out of her need to seek explanation for them - almost like for once she was desperate to give him a chance and sort this new complication because she actually wanted to get back what they had for a few days. In a way, to me, it is almost an unknown acceptance of her need of that camaraderie between them, the fact that she would actually initiate a confrontation to clear the air. Because let's not forget, in the most recent troubled past, it has always been Kesar seeking answers and clarifications, and being denied them all. The times they have had showdowns are always his initiation and she has only ever given in when there is no other way, and that only to hurl hurting words at him so the real matter of discussion can be brushed under the carpet. Gulaal was bothered and for a change, even if she was misunderstanding his intention with her warped and half baked logic, she wasn't shunning away, actually broached the topic with him and in a way that was indicative of her deep need for him to give her some answer that would rid her of this doubt - which translates to the fact that she did trust him (in oblivion) to have an answer which would explain, and she did trust the fact that his answer would be true and credible to her. Bottom line - she gave him a chance, after a long long time.

* Kesar was fantastic. To repeat my awe of the way the flowers were incorporated into the scene, there were insinuations of how those flowers in bloom given with the intention of peace were taken with the perception of another reason for her recent faith in him to falter... White can symbolize peace and death - and although Kesar's ultimate talk back has saved Gulaal's faith in him from 'death', the gesture of his hand holding the flowers falling down, and then his putting them away (almost in a way of putting them on a grave) were indicative of the spark in his effort dying. The spirit to redeem himself and his error of ways and the hope to actually make it up to her sort of dies out like a flame in that storm, and the flowers mark commemoration of it.
But that's just dramatic me 😆 Let's not lose sight of the actual brilliance in the face...

*... aka Neil's dialog delivery. What wonderful writing from the CVs 👏 and what equally stumping delivery. (Nothing to take away Mansi's credit either, bless her, with the perfect agitation in the beginning which mellows slightly but still remains a bit defensive, to that passive but for a change not avoiding stance of hearing his confession of love again, after a while though, and then the eventual dawn of the truth of his words, the realization of her grave misunderstanding and in it's wake the deep settling regret of having wronged him and hurt him so deeply for her insecurities. Mansi was so Gulaal, like she'd never been anyone else but!) Kesar's reply, starting from ye tune kya bol diya... to all the prominent lines - mujhe laga ye ek mauka hai jab main apni galtiyaan sudhaar sakta hu... tu meri har baat to tarazu mein tolti hai jahan kam ya zada hu to main humesha galat... and galat meri soch nahi teri samjh hai... ofc the main main tujhse pyar karta hu ye baat mere dimaag se zada to tere dimag mein rehti hai... I have to admit that reading the article informing us about this showdown, I had wondered what Kesar telling her that she was neither letting him stay nor move on implied, but as always I give the CVs a 20/10 to imbibe a whole new meaning to those cliche oft heard words between warring lovers. I really like that his 'moving beyond' actually refers to what they have always had, and not 'moving on and away' from what he has newly found in terms of emotions. Its interesting how moving on is used in a regressive way, of Kesar going back to what they had - and trying to liven that up, putting what he expected them to have now and for future on the side. And of all the things he tells her, the line iske ilawa bhi humara koi rishta hai... ye phir tha... hits her like a splash of icy water. When she was shaking him up for answers, to explain his 'kind gestures' she said agar ye maksad nahin tha to kya tha! In one plain line she gets it back. And voila, it's like this truth that has been staring at her all this while, and she's left struck by how could she have ever missed it. In a way, her reflection today was stark similarity with Kesar's in the temple. Here on, even if she can never accept him as a husband or his love, she can and shall never put it down for an obsession, much less doubt his motives.

* Finally, her suddenly awakened, but too shaken and hence weak approach of him to collect the pieces of their broken bond, ofc doesn't work. It's too feeble and really, she needs time to gather herself again and work out a substantial way to 'make up' like he has been all this time. Another stark similarity from the past struck me in this scene, when Kesar told her she had shown him his mistake and from that moment on he would keep his distance... shayad tab tu khush ho jaye? Her expression is an exact reflection of Kesar from the time that she admits defeat before him over the Talli marriage fiasco and tells him she swears by Vasant to let him be and never shown him her face. When he tells her that he realizes that if absence is what it takes for her to be happy then be it, her expression is screaming NO! It's just like Kesar's from that scene back then, where he's stoned and stumped and can't speak, but his eyes are loud and clear - of how can it ever be okay or happy without him... I love the way this scene brings back that moment in reverse!

* Quick mention to Kesar putting the flowers in front of his picture and Vasant's. Not sure exactly what that could signify. Except ofc the obvious of reminding us of Vasant's omnipresence in GK's life this way or that... But I feel like there's more to that symbolism than I read atm - so anyone who figures it better, feel free to share your logic! (:

And that will be all for today. I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling very satisfied with this closing scene - despite how exasperating the remainder episode was - I swear I was this far from turning off my system and coming back to watch later - I sat through the scenes because this show forces me to make sure I don't miss any angles - even when I have to tolerate all those ignominies and on that note the PRECAP almost did make me frown even after the treat of that last scene.

But still, I shall live in hope of some good ground space to be given to GK reconciliation next. I hope Gulaal will finally prove herself to be worthy of all the efforts he had put in to make her happy - if nothing more. I can patiently wait for their love to bloom, but for now, I just want to see Gulaal making some effort to get back on track.

xx

I jus cant explain how much I love ur post... and brilliant part is ur titleof the post... things i luved about IF is ur brilliant analysis...and below r things u wrote that truly touched my heart...

Today was a reminder for Gulaal of the special relationship she had shared with Kesar. 10 years ago she wouldn't have questioned Kesar writing her name in numerous pages of a notebook. In fact she used to get overwhelmed whenever he would show his unconditional love towards her. However, today she watches everything through suspicion and doubt. It's hard for her to accept that Kesar is doing all this simply because he is her Kesar and not for any other ulterior motives. Kesar echoed what her friend said about her habit of viewing his flaws instead of accepting him for what he IS.

Simply put, it was another wake-up call for Galool. She understood that Kesar only wanted to rekindle their own bond regardless of any potential romance. He wants THAT old Gulaal-Kesar relationship back which has been lost somewhere( yet it's a string they can never really get rid of either.) In a way this should be a turning point, quite a major one. I'm hoping Gulaal will show the same attachment and affection Kesar is showering on her. They just need to be there for each other :)

I have to rush off right now but will be back with more ;) Great post Jzee as always!

Thanks Jzee, well said as always 😊
Firstly that is a good song, i have it on my ipod - and the lines so suit this situation 😊
I like these lines as well
Don't ever say goodbye
See my head aches from all this thinkin'
Wonder what you do and where it is you stay
These questions like a whirlwind, they carry me away

Great confrontation, as i said earlier - i loved the whole tone to it, no harshness and no coldness, no accusations as such, just Gulaal seeking some answers to the assumptions she is coming up which is making her think and think, and dwell on - rather then brushing them away, i like how you mentioned she was the first to initiate it, coz she wanted answers, she was desperate, seeking answers and so on... and look what answers she got
Kesar was spot on today - in all he said and which lines were meant to hit the spots to Gulaal, not just that - but the hurt pain i saw, honestly i couldnt see Kesar in anger even last week when we were waiting for this kind of scene, i just couldnt picture him angry as such, coz for now he has let of that and has nothing in a way to be angry about - but i def could see hurt and today he was hurt - his voice and tone told us he was hurt, his eyes, the things he said, and even Gulaal understood what she did and has hurted him - Manasi expression and everything was so awesome, we saw what each and every expression meant as she took it in, and got realization, and understood it and that she hurt him
I guess most of what i wanted to say has been said in Reemz thread 😊
Another today i also liked was the bond - Kesar brought up, despite what he said and what has happened, that bond is what made them Gulaal-Kesar - Kesar-Gulaal to one another, no names to that bond given, and today she was reminded of it, that the name tag given to who they are by the DV - what mattered the most was what they shared 10 yrs ago, that bond - which can never be defined or be named, but is so deep and so rich
Also i said last week, that her assumptions needs to be cleared and Kesar did that in his own Kesar way (he was so spot on, what i loved was his whole tone - his voice telling us his hurt as well), then we can see her move on in a way to other things like the eye-openers and how they will work that in, and what angle they will play for us to see and so on and also to see Gulaal to bring that bond again and show some affection to Kesar and get back what they had and this friendship phase back atleast
As for the flowers, ever since friday - i always felt white flowers for me anyways means purity and i see that in Kesar's love and in Kesar-Gulaal
As for the flowers laying next to Kes-V photo, i did try and see what that meant, but its hard to explain in words as such or have a definate explaination for it.. but one thing i did notice that Vasant's photo wasnt looming in the back, it was all dark 😕

Oh well...what can I say? You have said it all!!👏 The much needed confrontation!

I have to say, I was bowled over both my Neil and Manasi...their expressions speak volumes! Kesar's look from total innocence to total confusion to comprehension and Gulaal's look from total accusation to total confusion to comprehension...in a way this was closure for Gulaal. Somewhere along that 6-7 minutes confrontation, she realized that she has completely misunderstood Kesar's intentions. At the end of the whole scene you could see the regret in her eyes...a little to late maybe?

Kesar's words were spot on! She has always weighed all his actions and no matter what the intentions, he is declared guilty of having ulterior motives. To be very honest, I was expecting Kesar to completely blow his top but as you mentioned...there was no anger from either side. Gulaal was asking the questions, questions that she had already answered in her mind...answers that she assumed were right because for Gulaal, anything to do with Kesar is just Black or White.

My favorite dialogue - "I love you but you have this stuck in your head more than I do." That was a complete eye opener for Gulaal! He does love her and despite everything, he has put those feelings aside but somehow his feelings are all that she can think about...why should it affect her so much?? He has requested the panchayat for the DV to be broken, extended a hand of friendship, accepted that everything between them will be over in 3 months...so why can't she stop thinking about his feelings for her???

The last part was really good because probably for the first time, he cut her short...and I am happy that he has decided to stay out of her way. We know how hard it is for him to stay away from her BUT he is willing to do that so that there is no room left for any more misunderstandings...he is willing to stay away from her if that makes her happy...

Gulaal's friends words are coming true sooner than expected..."Don't take something for granted because you got it easy and you will realize Kesar's importance when he is not around in your life..." Wake up Gulaal...

Thank you sukirti! I thought the flowers were a beautiful and soulful addition to such a consequential scene!

Another wake up call as you say, but the first one to hit a bulls eye! And who but Kesar would manage such a feat with Galool! It suddenly becomes apparent to Gulaal, that Kesar wants the only one thing she would ever want - to revive the old GK bond from a decade ago, because it was that life giving light for her in the darkest times. When Kesar first returned all cold and sour, it was all she wanted. Then times just changed, and beneath her shield of defense, righteousness, or obstinate ostrich approach, she has cowered away from seeking that bond, because she has come to believe Kesar is looking for more. So deep goes her suspicion, that she cannot even see his reform to actually go her way and seek out that old bond, when he does finally realize and set out for it. I loved the change of expression at the exact point where it began, when he tells her it took him a while but he knows now that lve is not about gaining but giving... it's like she's surprised he can even say those words, and from there on, it is all about blunt truths she has been staring at, but been blind to.

And ofc - icing on the cake - Kesar clarifies he does love her, and always will... and that is something he has never denied or backed off from. A much needed clarification, which to my happiness, was not something that made Gulaal look away or shy or avoid - thank god! It goes on to prove how much she has changed in the last handful of days, how despite her decade of snubbing the will to live, a mere teaser glimpse of it has triggered that agitation called 'life' within her, such that she is willing to confront Kesar for answers, if only that would set records straight and she could resume being friends with him without the hitch created by her friends' words. Ofc, what she gets is much more than she bargains for - but she had this coming all along!

I like how each confrontation of Kesar-Gulaal's has a different flavor...a unique flavor...there is a purpose to each...if the last landmark one was the one when he told her that she's killing the woman inside her, today was a different kind...in a sense the ultimate wake up call for Gulaal that's been a long time coming.

Everyone's said everything there is to say about the one today so I don't have much to add...your analysis has summed it all up very well as well, Jzee :-)

The dialogues were very good...when Kesar spoke about what Gulaal's pareshani is, I got deja vu of that memorable "Tu hai meri pareshani" scene...my fav. line also was the "Main tujhse pyar karta hoon, yeh mujhse zyada TERE dimaag mein ghoomta rehta hai"...superb point that really hit home to Gulaal there...irony...that his love for her has in a sense become HER obsession when she least realized it.

And yes, I also loved the..."Tu yeh bhool jaati hai ki is sabse pare bhi humara ek rishta hai...*pause* ya tha"...That "ya tha" probably really cut through to Gulaal and made her remember at last what Kesar has meant to her BEYOND the bond of the deeyarvattu.

The symbolism with the flowers was quite interesting too...in particular the shot of Kesar putting down those flowers in front of that picture of him and Vasant...can be interpreted in many ways...

*Edit: Also it was interesting that in the opening scene, the doll Champa was lying next to chhota Kesar's photo on the desk when Gulaal first picks it up thinking about what her friends had said.

Kesar was hurt more than angry today...and it is that hurt that somehow finally penetrated Gulaal's thick shield...cuz Kesar has nothing to gain now that she can really accuse him of...all that he said to her basically held up a mirror to prove that...she had no reply...only regrets at the end.

Finally things have reached an interesting point where Kesar has decided to back off completely...with that bitter, "maybe THAT will keep you happy" parting shot that he threw out before leaving...now Gulaal will be in guilt mode...how the tables have turned...this has been a long time coming...lol...I'm intrigued to see how Gulaal approaches things from this point on...

@ bold - Len, it's true, I actually thought the exact other way round. I thought Kesar had put himself past being hurt by Gulaal, and this confrontation from her would only ruffle his feathers and finally bring on his anger, which had been lost in the efforts to make her happy. But I have to admit that the entire turn out - was so reflective of how very very much Kesar has evolved and matured. In fact, perhaps flash of anger would have been a downside now that I think of it. This was perfect. He was hurt, but not enough to lose perspective, and unlike all the times that she hurt him and he wanted answers that she refused to give him - Kesar actually put himself through the ordeal of 'clarification'. Sometimes, its insulting and hurtful in an unparalleled way, when one has to justify ones intention to that person who means the world to them. But Kesar - despite being put so unfairly on spot - did explain the entire deal to her. He cut her off in the end and backed off and walked out, but not before he had answered every one of those questions which he could very well have dismissed as something he didn't deserve to be asked. Gulaal had done that to him - when he had been seeking some very legit answers about her saving and hiding of Dushyant's truth. She told him then that he had no haq to ask questions, but that he just should not doubt her intention. It was an exact reversal of the scenario and Kesar could have given her back the Galol treatement in kind. But that's not like Kesar.

The way Gulaal was seeking answers today, and Kesar answered them for her, despite the hurt element between - reminded me of the time Gulaal told him that if he was the old Kesar then he would have come back home and expressed his grudges to her so they could talk it out and sort the bad air between themselves. However, for weeks after that when confrontations and talk outs were much needed, Gulaal herself was ducking away. It was such a welcome respite to finally find her person, who wished to clear the matter - however awkward or confronting, and thankfully Kesar owns a better head than his dear lady love to not walk out on her at being questioned on intention but actually giving his side of the story.

I agree...even I had expected more anger...but it was all about the hurt today...even then, Kesar went through the whole trouble to clarify things as you said...when he could have blown her off as she has done to him many times...like the Dushyant truth scene...but he didn't give her Galool treatment, like you said...lol

Gulaal started the scene in frustration...it was an outburst to begin with...but as the scene progressed, understanding finally started to dawn on her...again, this time Kesar's hurt did the trick and also cuz for a change he didn't back off or just leave the room in frustration...this time he saw it through till the end and gave her an answer to all her questions...maybe that is why this turned out to be the game changer to finally make Gulaal realize how mistaken she has been about his intentions and many other things.
