Suddenly realising their proximity, Maan abruptly let her go. "Get in the jeep", Maan ordered. He ran his fingers through his hair and thanked God that he had got there in time. He watched Geet go towards the jeep. She was about to get into the jeep, when he said "Ruko"
Geet stopped just as she was about to climb into the jeep. She felt Maan's presence behind her. Her breathing quickened as did her heartbeats. She couldn't understand why he was so close and why his closeness was affecting her.
"What is this Geet? It looks like blood!" Maan said looking intently at her back.
Geet tried to turn around to face him, but he stopped her, putting his hands on her shoulders. Geet closed her eyes as she felt the warmth of his hands on her. She prayed to Babaji to give her control of her emotions.
In Maan's mind, she was hurt and bleeding and needed medical attention. Without thinking, where they were, Maan put Geet's hair to one side, opened the dori of her suit and pulled down the zip of her kameez. Geet's eyes shot open.
"What are you doing?" Geet asked nervously. Hey Babaji, I hope he is not intending to do what he was accused of, she thought and quickly dismissed the thought. No, Maan was not like that.
Maan had not heard Geet. He was staring at Geet's back. Maan was horrified. He saw the deep wounds criss-crossing her white skin. They looked new and were bleeding. He moved to look closer. Geet could feel his warm breath on her bare back. It sent shivers down her spine. To control her emotions Geet fisted her kameez in her hands.
"Who would do this and why?" Maan thought angrily.
He was about to touch the wounds, when he heard her speak again, louder this time. "What are you doing, Maan?" Maan realised what he had just done and was about to do, and quickly zipped her back up.
Turning Geet around to face him, he asked "Geet who did this to you?"
She couldn't look at him. He had seen her bare back...he had seen her wounds.
Grabbing her by the shoulders he asked again, but now he was shouting. "Geet who did this to you? Answer me dammit"
Geet looked up and saw concern in his eyes. Was it concern for her? Before the concern could turn into anger, Geet thought it best to answer. "Brij Veerji"
"Brij? But why?" Maan asked quite puzzled.
"I refused to sign the papers...I told him I couldn't sign them and I would never sign them" Geet answered. "He was accusing you of things you never did, how could I sign them?"
"What papers are you talking about?"
"The papers the lawyer Mr Singh drew up...the ones accusing you of..." she couldn't finish the sentence.
"It's ok Geet. I understand what you mean". He realised now that Geet had nothing to do with calling the police. It was all down to Brij. But why? And how he could be so cruel to his own sister?
Looking at Geet, who looked worn out, Maan said softly "I will take you home. You need to rest and get those wounds on your back cleaned and bandaged."
They sat in the jeep in silence as Maan drove. Geet was thinking about Maan's concern versus her own family's. Maan thought about Brij and his motive for accusing Maan.
Maan stopped the jeep in front of Handa haveli. He escorted her to her door to make sure she did not run off again. Geet was nervous about being seen with Maan, but Maan didn't give her a choice. Rajji opened the door and was relieved to see Geet alive and well.
Geet looked around nervously. "Didi, don't worry. Brij Veerji is not here and Daarji is having a nap", Rajji said, realising the cause of Geet's nervousness.
"Thank you Maanji for finding Geet didi and bringing her back home, safely" Rajji cried. "I was so worried didi". Geet looked at Rajji and then at Maan. Rajji, her little sister, had taken a risk to find Maan to save her. Geet hugged Rajji tightly.
They stopped hugging when they heard Maan say "Rajji, clean her wounds and make sure you bandage them well. Also make sure she rests"
As Maan walked away, he smirked and said "Oh Rajji, tie her to the bed if necessary, so she doesn't run off again". Maan was trying his best to lift the mood.
Geet opened her mouth to say something when Maan said, "close your mouth Geet...a fly may go in there". Geet closed her mouth quickly and ran inside the house followed by Rajji.
Maan sat in his jeep watching the door of Handa haveli close. He took out his phone and dialled. "Where are you?...Ok, I will be there in ten minutes"
Ms Roy, Mr Singh and Brij were having a heated discussion about the case against Maan.
"Look Mr Brij, we seem to be going around and around in circles here. Mr Khurana will never agree to your demands, so stop dreaming and start being realistic" Ms Roy stated.
"And what exacly will Mr Khurana not agree to?" said Maan entering Mr Singh's office
