As Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah marks a remarkable 17 years on television, the cast and crew are filled with gratitude and nostalgia. The beloved sitcom, which has become a part of countless households, continues to entertain audiences with its humor, social messages, and heartwarming characters. Among its many cherished characters is Sundar, played by actor Mayur Vakani, who took a sentimental trip down memory lane while remembering his on-screen and real-life sister, Disha Vakani.
Disha Vakani, who portrayed the iconic role of Dayaben, left the show due to personal reasons several years ago, leaving a lasting void in the hearts of fans. Her presence is still deeply missed, especially by her brother Mayur, who shared many memorable moments on-screen with her.
Reflecting on the journey, Mayur Vakani expressed his heartfelt gratitude and emotions. He said, “I am very thankful to Asit Kumarr Modi, Dilip sir, and the entire team for making me a part of this incredible show. Since childhood, my sister and I have done theatre together, and we shared a long and meaningful acting journey. I am especially grateful to Asit sir for giving me the opportunity to continue that journey on television with my sister. Not everyone gets a chance like this — to work so closely with their sibling on such a long-running show.”
By God’s grace, I got the opportunity to work with my sister on this show, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Dilip sir, my sister, and I did so many scenes together.

As he recalled the early days of the show and the beautiful bond he shared with his sister both on and off-screen, Mayur became emotional. “By God’s grace, I got the opportunity to work with my sister on this show, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Dilip sir, my sister, and I did so many scenes together. Working alongside her helped me grow in this journey. Even though she is not part of the show today, I feel fortunate to still be here, continuing the legacy.”
Mayur also extended his appreciation to the show's fans and team. “I want to thank everyone from the cast and the audience who continues to shower love on us. Not every actor gets a family like this — on and off-screen. I feel truly blessed. I miss my sister on this occasion, and this journey has been a beautiful one.”
As Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah celebrates 17 years, these emotional reflections from Mayur Vakani remind fans of the love, warmth, and real-life bonds that continue to make the show so special.
