Man is a social animal. Even the extreme introvert people crave company at times. Especially at times of distress and when they're emotionally vulnerable, their thoughts divert towards the negative, just like Geet thought of the loneliness in her life and she believed it will remain with her forever! And at such times, the gut feeling and the instincts are often pointing towards something, in the eyes of the sufferer, that is. Something as simple as losing a coat button can become a trigger of anger towards oneself, just like it happened with Geet.

Okay, just ignore whatever I said in this comment because it's making no sense, even to me! 😆
Thank you, Z! For the PM. And I'm glad I could be of service! 😃
Have fun at your trip and all the best for your exams! 😊

It makes perfect sense to me! I agree that when we feel a certain way, everything around us appears to agree with it. A ripped button is dismissable one day but the next, the entire weight of the world can depend on that one button.
You know, I didn't really reflect on it until after reading the comments but the idea that there is no pure good in humans seems ingrained in us nowadays. So when we do encounter it, when we are showered with love, it feels alien and even irritating. I was at a meeting this week and the nuns there were very attentive and caring, always checking if I needed anything and trying to make me eat for England. I actually felt very uncomfortable with that amount of love, that too from strangers. It just made me think later of how closed off people can become. I keep my interactions with strangers formal, polite and reserved but I still dream of meeting strangers and sharing experiences and life stories etc. Irrational? Absolutely.
Thanks, M! :)

the refreshing breeze she had loved so many times before took its form this time in a teasing chill...
Even Nature is not saved from our conflicting emotions and mood swings..Have you ever tried to make shapes in clouds..I have tried it alot of times and believe me shapes that are formed completely depends on my mood..I would see a smiling face in clouds when i am happy ..I would see a crocodile opening its mouth, when i am angry..and no experience with sadness as there are very few times when i get sad..usually i am found happy or angry...!!!Enough of my blabbering..😕
An intimate gathering of strangers...
Take a bow from my side for this line. Intimate +strangers=perfect oxymoron...

Would everything else she touched crumble away before her eyes too?
How beautifully you portrayed geet's emotional state just by using mundane accident of loosing a blazer button...

Wonderful chapter.!!!!
Ps-no comments for geet's forebonding ..😆

The world is just a reflection of ourselves. Atleast, that is what I believe. Who we are, how we feel, what we think, all of these things become the things we see, the people we encounter, the meanings of what happens to us.
I can vouch for the clouds. I haven't done a lot of cloud searching but when I do, what I see mirrors what I feel.
"An intimate gathering of strangers"...you've picked up on my favourite line. It's not because I think I've stumbled upon literary genius, it's the idea behind it. Isn't it just thrilling? How many people do you sit with every day who could teach you something new about life? Who have something interesting to share? Such an attractive idea, it almost feels dangerous to me.
Thank you, Palin!

Btw loved this bengali knowing Geet...read many MG ffs but nowhere Geet knew bengali
Nice part

I agree. When I try to ignore such 'signs' they just become stronger. Hmm, or do they just feel stronger?
Thank you! I had to have a Bengali speaker somewhere in the story. I'd be doing my heritage a disservice if there wasn't one! As it is, I'm not from Kolkata and don't know much about it so I feel that I've done the city a great disservice.

An assault of overly helpful Bengalis? 😆 I loved it too! It was great and on top of that, I always have a stupid grin on when someone in a movie speaks Bengali.
Almost! Ami tomake bhalo bashi 😃 You know, I never consciously noticed all the 'o' emphasis in Bengali until it kept being pointed out after Kahaani.

I havent seen Kolkata but could feel it :). Maybe coz I remembered my hometown reading this. Hurr how I wish Delhi was better and had some emotions. Just asking why would anybody from Mumbai will go to Kolkata airport when Mumbai itself has a famous airport? Or did that taxiwala ask this question just to make an attempt to ask her if she is fine. Ha ha ye kuchh aur hi ho gaya.

And that bus scene. Idk why but travelling in buses, trains especially long journeys gives you a different feeling. Like Geet has at this moment. Having our own identity types. Faltu time. You just start looking on your own life. Geet is annoyed and maybe sad. I hope this escape will help her understanding some things or maybe she needs something else.

Stopping right here. Classic story writting style.

Really? As an outsider to Kolkata and Delhi, both seem like interesting places to live in. But that may be for just the reason that I'm not actually from there. New places usually seem better.

Why Geet would go to Kolkata first...it's open to interpretation but as mentioned earlier, Geet used to take train rides to Kolkata earlier in her life, during the happier times (that she had been reminiscing when thinking of Geet Handa vs. Geet Khurana). So while on the journey she's taking to focus on herself, maybe she wanted to find that connection to her old self, to feel that way again. Also, while researching ways to get to Darjeeling by bus, I found that most people advise going to Kolkata and then Darjeeling. I didn't want her on a flight and you'll see why later ;)

But I do think you're right - the question was a bit of an excuse for the taxi driver to express his concern and see if she's okay. And it's okay, we usually end up going off on a tangent in this thread 😆

I personally love travelling alone on long bus journeys but end up regretting my enthusiasm. It's daunting. So much time to yourself, so many different ways in which your thoughts can attack you. Being a part of other people's stories. And as you said, having your own identity.

It was really nice to hear your thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to share. I'm Zarin, by the way. 😊 Shall we call you Ubiquitos or do you prefer something else?

:). When I was outsider, I was excited about Delhi too. Abhi bhi I am outsider in a way :D. A tour to Delhi will always be exciting though.

I get it why Geet went to Kolkata and to Darjeeling via Kolkata. Taxi driver's question isnt that impt waise bhi.

And about travelling, I agree it makes you exhausted both mentally and physically. First 2-3 hrs are good :).

Ubiquitos is fine but I may not interact or give you feedback much. Thanks for replying. :).
